How to Help Standing Rock: Action Items, Donation Links
**edited December 2, 2016, to correct the link to donate directly to the Standing Rock Sioux tribe and to update for the December days of action**
**updated December 3 with new links for Oceti Sakowin camp and donations**
**updated December 7 with Defund DAPL link and step-by-step instructions**
Since I seem to be blogging almost daily on the situation in North Dakota, I thought I'd create a one-stop essay with all the donation links, phone numbers of people to put pressure on, where to send supplies, etc. If you have other suggestions, please put them in the comments and I'll update. Please do what you can, and feel free to repost this anywhere.

Banks and Financial Institutions
The Defund DAPL movement is a great way to track disinvestment. At this link, you'll find step-by-step instructions on how to move your money and suggestions for what to tell your former bank, including the following paragraph.
[Name of bank] is one of a group of banks that loaned a combined $10 billion to Dakota Access and other companies involved in the pipeline’s construction. . . . As a customer of [name of bank], I do not want my money helping support [name of bank]’s investment in the Dakota Access pipeline - a dangerous and unjust oil pipeline that violates both sacred and treaty lands of the Standing Rock Sioux and threatens air and water quality on their land.
In addition to the banks listed in the image below, here is a link from Yes magazine with the entire list of financial institutions. If you're doing business with any of them, please move your money and tell them why. If you feel more assertive, you can do civil disobedience and block branches or otherwise shut them down for a day.
Out-of-State Sheriffs and Cops
Here's a comprehensive list (accurate at the time it was printed) of the police and sheriff's departments that have sent troops to Standing Rock to attack and oppress the water protectors. Call or write them and tell them to remove their personnel from the area and bring them home.
Government Officials
I have little faith that any governmental authorities are going to land on the right side here, but if you feel optimistic about getting President Obama or your local senators or representatives to speak out, please give them a call. There are some suggested talking points in the image below.
Money and Supplies
If you are sending cold-weather gear, choose items that are suitable for the Arctic, Mongolia, or subzero temperatures. Standard "cold weather" items are inadequate.

Thank you for doing this.
Thank you for doing this.
Thank you very much for this work.
Some of the most valuable diaries on the site right now are yours, IMO.

you're very kind to say this
I'm just trying to get the water protectors a little bit more attention and support.
Thanks for reading and sharing the info.

He's not only being kind
He's being accurate. This issue has a lot of 'progressive' concerns rolled into one: Racism, rights of indigenous peoples, land rights, treaties, police brutality, Climate change and more. So he's right. As well as kind.

FYI - Sacred Stone
I sent a package to Sacred Stone Camp last week (Lowe's gift card, some merino wool hats & gloves, and a pair of insulated Carhartt overalls I found on crazy sale at Sierra Trading Post) -- and the Post Office desk clerk told me that "202 Main Street" in Fort Yates doesn't show in the system as a valid address. I used the P.O. Box and have confirmation it was delivered.
Wish I could have done more, but I'm going to keep sending what I can, when I can.
Thanks for getting all these resources into one place.
thx for your support
The Main Street addy is on the Sacred Stone website. I don't know any more than that, but I'm glad you were able to send to the PO box.

I need to be doing some work here but feel so freighted with shame it's difficult to think.
I hear you, Creosote
I'm self-employed, so it's challenging to make myself work-for-money when there's so much social justice work to be done.
But rather than being immobilized by shame, I hope you will just make one phone call or post one link to your social media, or send a donation, however tiny. We all have a part to play.

Indepenent contractor too
landline only, and fight for time for c99% and carless marketing errands. I continue to write countless personal statements in petitions, including support for for Standing Rock (found my university-area dentist is fighting the pipeline as well) and also follow the Oil Transport Campaign, working intensively to keep Big Coal and Oil out of the Pacific Northwest and British Columbia.
Your work in these No DAPL reports is irreplaceable.
I have to go to the Post Office to get boxes
I bought 2 pairs of metal mesh gloves to send. TY for the mailing address.
Hey! my dear friends or soon-to-be's, JtC could use the donations to keep this site functioning for those of us who can still see the life preserver or flotsam in the water.
Thank you
for your work and attention to this. Thank you for help in keeping it in our attention.
thank you for reading
