I grew up in NY and New England, and have lived here for the past 20 years. I can highly recommend New Zealand. If I worked for immigration I would fast track your application on your sig line alone!

So many of them have traveled or lived there, so have experienced the other side as well. They are just as dismayed as we are by the current state of affairs.

I love the hummingbird photo.
I have 30 to 40 that spend their days at my feeders here & I get up close with them.
Now when I refill a feeder, I hang it up but leave my hand near the hook & wait for them.
Within seconds they alight &/or congregate around me to feed.
I love the sound of them buzzing fearlessly around me.
I`ll shoot more pix of them for next Friday.

they are such a joy, flitting about, doing their star wars games, very territorial, but buzz right up to your space (if you keep still) and inquire your mind, extremely sensitive to eye movement and what's in your head
We're getting 8-12 inches of snow Sunday/Monday...
So I went to the zoo today...
M'Wasi came to Syracuse from the Bronx last year. He came to be a companion to Kierha who lost her siblings in the last few years.
The big attraction right now is the two new Red Panda cubs. They were born in June and went on display with mom & dad last week. Dad is a newer arrival too. He was acquired because the previous male didn't get along with the girls...

This is a Mallard x Green-winged Teal (Mallards will breed with anything...)

How wistful, and forlorn s/he looks. In the context of the approaching winter, I guess it makes sense. But it's sad, just the same. I hope s/he has comfort and warmth through the winter.
There used to be a pair, but the female died two or three years ago. They brought in a new female, but they must not get along because they are kept separate.

My guess is that it is the nest of a tiny Warbler, since I have never seen a Hummingbird here in NZ.
