It's semi-official. Trump to name a second racist to a top U.S. post.
Submitted by Hillbilly Dem on Fri, 11/18/2016 - 8:56am
It's breaking now that President-elect Trump (you think it's hard to type that, how about President Trump?) will nominate Jefferson Beauregard Sessions III as the United States of America's next Attorney General. The office that was held by giants like Robert F. Kennedy and Elliot Richardson (who resigned when ordered to fire Archibald Cox, Watergate special prosecutor) is now in the hands of Jeff Sessions.
Ol' Jeff. In the 1980s, his nomination as a federal district judge couldn't get past the Senate. In America 2016? He's the Attorney General. The top lawman of the nation. As the great Lilly Tomlin said "It's gonna get worse, before it gets worse."

Sessions is bad even by Alabama standards. I won't compare
him with some of the terrible post WW2 AG's because we all need to reflect on how this rotten choice is going to impact the country.
Thanks for the post. I think it comes under the heading of "good information but bad news"
"The justness of individual land right is not justifiable to those to whom the land by right of first claim collectively belonged"
I guess it could be worse. Not much, but worse nonetheless
He could have resurrected Strom Thurgood and picked him. Absent the ability to resurrect the dead, I guess he went for second best.

George W. Bush
or Ted Cruz--

Is this fer sure or a trial balloon?
Would Sessions even be acceptable to Republicans?
Hey! my dear friends or soon-to-be's, JtC could use the donations to keep this site functioning for those of us who can still see the life preserver or flotsam in the water.
Whether or not it's a trial baloon,
Trump has made a clear declaration. As if Steve Bannon wasn't enough, this removes any suggestion that racist beliefs will be a disqualifier in the Trump Administration. Same for xenophobia, homophobia, bellicosity, etc, etc, etc. Thanks Hillary.

This is amazing to watch.
FDR came from old money. Some considered him to be a class traitor.
Trump does not have to make these choices.
He does not have Clinton's binding political and financial obligations to the elites.
It looks like Trump will make those ties now. He doesn't have to do it- it is his choice.
That's on him, in my opinion.
Trump will own the catastrophes that his incompetence allows nt
Beware the bullshit factories.
Oh? I doubt it!
When has a Republican ever taken ownership of any catastrophe they cause? Stealing the meme from the post about the Democrats not taking responsibility for their horrible electoral performance in recent years, the Republicans never admit to their actions ever harming ANYONE.
It will be thus with Hair Drumpf.

!st no more
The " Shrub" is probably glad that he will no longer be listed as
the worst American President. Trump is on track to win that prize.
Yeah, Dubya won't have to worry too much longer,
about whether he's worse than Nixon.
Beware the bullshit factories.
Jimmy Dore did a segment on Trump nominees
He thinks the worse they are , it's all for the better. His logic is it is easier to condemn policies when they are pushed by horrible people. He says Obama with his cute smile and eloquent speeches has put liberals to sleep, thus he got away with some awful crap and little pushback.
The Show is here. This one is about the Steve Bannon pick, but the logic applies to Sessions.

I've always thought he was the dumbest person in the Senate.
That may be a good thing if he's AG.
yeah, well, don't forget such giants of liberty and justice,
steeped in the enlightenment intellectual tradition, as:

Oh yeah. For sure.
Or even Eric "Holder Memo" Holder. But RFK and Eliot Richardson were the first 2 recent stalwarts that I could think of who held the office. We're in the shit.

The best part about Meese's bizarre comment came
a couple of years later, when he was being investigated for shenanigans and crucified in the press, and he said, "Whatever happened to innocent till proven guilty?"

I wonder if the Clintons are sorry they encouraged Trump to run?
Eventually all this is going to
make a very bright and lovely bonfire. If we aren't all in FEMA Camps. All this commentary we do on the Nets will of course be read at our trials . Strike that ...read at our judicial hearing before the local uber lord.
I'll see ya there, lark song!
And you're right, it'll be strictly "star chamber" proceedings. I'm sure they'll start the proceedings with the same declaration that Judge Roy Bean made when he started his trials. He looked at the defendant and asked "Have you got anything to say before I find you guilty?"

Will FEMA feed us?
With SS and Medicare in danger FEMA camps might be a good alternative to living under a bridge.
They may not put us in FEMA camps , but you can bet net nuetrality will be a thing of the past.
You know that TPTB noticed the support and donations that Sanders garnered from the internet.
Follow The Money
It would be costly to keep so many people in captivity. And to what purpose could we be put to earn our keep? I don't expect to be imprisoned in a FEMA camp should that horror occur. I'm sure that most of us would be "disappeared" as was done in Chile and Argentina.

The only positive thing about Sessions...
is that he's no fan of Hillary.
Bill pressured Sessions to resign and eventually ended up firing him in 1993 - 5 1/2 years into his ten year FBI Director term - making him the only Director so far (cough, Comey, cough) to suffer that fate.
Old Hill better watch her P's & Q's. Old Dixiecrats never forget a grudge, and if there was ever a pitbull tugging at his chain, it's Sessions.
As far as the rest of course, not good. Not good at all.
The current working assumption appears to be that our Shroedinger's Cat system is still alive. But what if we all suspect it's not, and the real problem is we just can't bring ourselves to open the box?
Bill fired a different Sessions
Bill Clinton "fired" William S. Sessions.

I'm in heaven. Thanks Hillbilly Dem(exit) and NHK. Those are without a doubt two of the funniest, brightest female comedians ever. There are many but those two are permanently guaranteed to be on the list.
Jeff Sessions is not so funny.

fit in here?
I never knew that the term "Never Again" only pertained to

"Antisemite used to be someone who didn't like Jews

Omigod he's a racist!
Lyndon Johnson was a racist. The difference of course was that Lyndon Johnson pushed through the 1964 Civil Rights Act whereas we in our current anti-racist moral superiority tolerate a situation in which school segregation, for instance, is "worse than it was in the '60s." Why? We spend too much time scouring our souls and the souls of others for racist tendencies, and not enough time looking at policy. In this regard we might be better off protesting a racist than we would be if we were to champion nice anti-racists whose policies were lousy.
“When there's no fight over programme, the election becomes a casting exercise. Trump's win is the unstoppable consequence of this situation.” - Jean-Luc Melanchon
That's insightful, and very much correct.
It's a consequence of the brand of identity politics that have given us our current situation. You should write an essay expounding on this topic. Identity and how it relates to our political discourse is important to me (I grew up in impoverished areas where whites were a minority, and it has deeply influenced me to this day), and I would appreciate having other voices highlight these issues as well, so from at least one individual's perspective your time wouldn't be wasted!

Hell, it wouldn't surprise me if he grows tired
of being president after about 18 months on the job. I could see him delegating just about everything except the State Of The Union address.

There's a lot more pressure being President
Than being a reality TV star.
Beware the bullshit factories.
You'd think so, wouldn't you?
But then you remember George W. Bush and you realize that delegating everything to one's own personal Darth Vader eliminates much of the stress.

I want to give Steve Bannon a chance
sounds good to me
That is very interesting.
I will be watching closely to see how that turns out.
"I’m a human being, first and foremost, and as such I’m for whoever and whatever benefits humanity as a whole.” —Malcolm X
It doesn't fit into the old boogyman narrative.
…no matter how hard the Establishment tries to push it in. I had to listen to his speeches. It's easy to see why the Elite are so threatened by Trump.
Says Bannon, from that same article:
These days it takes more than scaring Americans to death with smears and propaganda to win an election. It might require — god forbid — real economic nuts and bolts and self-investment that enriches "everyman."
IMAGINE if you woke up the day after a US Presidential Election and headlines around the the world blared, "The Majority of Americans Refused to Vote in US Presidential Election! What Does this Mean?"
I found this great article on the election of Trump
and what a Trump Presidency would most likely entail. It's the most coherent and accurate essay I've read so far.
