Protests are met with a militarized police state accompanied by the military if necessary. Color revolutions are implemented, violence instigated, the police state responses dictated. They are making it impossible for a peaceful revolution.
People talk about a civil war, insurrection, violent revolution, etc., and I think about the pigs and their tanks and drones and their national Homeland der Security apparatus which can mobilize the nation's entire law enforcement and military into one top down unit. They can put down anything they want at anytime. We have no chance against that type of power and the ruling elite have a neverending supply of fascist dupes willing to do their dirty deeds, spray the mace and tear gas, hit protesters with their batons, line up their tanks, train their snipers - just in case.
Following JFK's logic, since the U.S. ruling elite and it's police state will not allow a peaceful revolution, if we're going to have a real revolution at all it is going to be violent. I guess we should understand that going in.
I do think there may be ways to conduct a non-violent revolution, but as JFK said, the ruling elite are going to do their best to make that impossible.
This election with the "Up the Establishment" attitude of the electorate offers some idea...
The time is nearer than they think and history has cruel remedial lessons for the failure to pass history...

heading toward it for some time. Another favorite quote that I have been thinking about is this:
There is nothing which I dread so much as a division of the republic into two great parties, each arranged under its leader, and concerting measures in opposition to each other. This, in my humble apprehension, is to be dreaded as the greatest political evil under our Constitution.
JOHN ADAMS, letter to Jonathan Jackson, October 2, 1789
Bolding added.
Evil is right. We don't need political parties. The two we have now are two sides of the same corrupt corporate coin.

Freedom always has a cost
And that cost is always blood, regrettably.

I am fascinated by the fact that there is no Project DeFarge
I'd expect there to be one by now.
Not enough people staving and desperate...yet.
