Re: 2016 GOP presidential candidates
Date: April 7, 2015Friends,
This memo is intended to outline the strategy and goals a potential Hillary Clinton presidential campaign would have regarding the 2016 Republican presidential field. Clearly most of what is contained in this memo is work the DNC is already doing. This exercise is intended to put those ideas to paper.
Our Goals & Strategy
Our hope is that the goal of a potential HRC campaign and the DNC would be one-in-the-same: to make whomever the Republicans nominate unpalatable to a majority of the electorate. We have outlined three strategies to obtain our goal:
- Force all Republican candidates to lock themselves into extreme conservative positions that will hurt them in a general election;
- Undermine any credibility/trust Republican presidential candidates have to make inroads to our coalition or independents;
- Muddy the waters on any potential attack lodged against HRC.
Operationalizing the Strategy
Pied Piper Candidates
There are two ways to approach the strategies mentioned above. The first is to use the field as a whole to inflict damage on itself similar to what happened to Mitt Romney in 2012. The variety of candidates is a positive here, and many of the lesser known can serve as a cudgel to move the more established candidates further to the right. In this scenario, we don’t want to marginalize the more extreme candidates, but make them more “Pied Piper” candidates who actually represent the mainstream of the Republican Party. Pied Piper candidates include, but aren’t limited to:
- Ted Cruz
- Donald Trump
- Ben Carson
We need to be elevating the Pied Piper candidates so that they are leaders of the pack and tell the press to them seriously.
Undermining Their Message & Credibility
Most of the more-established candidates will want to focus on building a winning general election coalition. The “Pied Pipers” of the field will mitigate this to a degree, but more will need to be done on certain candidates to undermine their credibility among our coalition (communities of color, millennials, women) and independent voters. In this regard, the goal here would be to show that they are just the same as every other GOP candidate: extremely conservative on these issues. Some examples:
- Jeb Bush
- What to undermine: the notion he is a “moderate” or concerned about regular Americans; perceived inroads with the Latino population.
- Marco Rubio
- What to undermine: the idea he has “fresh” ideas; his perceived appeal to Latinos
- Scott Walker
- What to undermine: the idea he can rally working- and middle class Americans.
- Rand Paul
- What to undermine: the idea he is a “different” kind of Republican; his stance on the military and his appeal to millennials and communities of color.
- Bobby Jindal
- What to undermine: his “new” ideas
- Chris Christie
- What to undermine: he tells it like it is.
Muddying the Waters
As we all know, the right wing attack machine has been building its opposition research on Hillary Clinton for decades. The RNC et al has been telegraphing they are ready to attack and do so with reckless abandon. One way we can respond to these attacks is to show how they boomerang onto the Republican presidential field. The goal, then, is to have a dossier on the GOP candidates on the likely attacks HRC will face. Based on attacks that have already occurred, the areas they are highlighting:
- Transparency & disclosure
- Donors & associations
- Management & business dealings
In this regard, any information on scandals or ethical lapses on the GOP candidates would serve well. We won’t be picky.
Again, we think our goals mirror those of the DNC. We look forward to continuing the conversation.
There were many failures of the Hillary Clinton Campaign, The DNC, and the Democratic Party, in the 2016 Presidential Election where tactical blunders were made in the efforts to establish dishonest control over the election in their attempts to get Hillary Clinton elected as the first woman president of the United States. From the collusion of the DNC, Super Delegates, and the Hillary Clinton Campaign, against Bernie Sanders in the Democratic Primary Election, to tactics to control the outcome of the Republican Frontrunners and Republican Primary Results. The unethical behavior, dishonesty, corruption, and lawlessness of the Clinton Campaign, and the DNC certainly requires a thorough review for possible illegalities and possible prosecution where warranted, and at the minimum action taken by the Democratic Party, to ensure the the persons involve in this never again hold a position in the power in the party where they may attempt to influence against the will of the voters again...
When it comes to placing blame in the outcome of the 2016 Election and the subsequent Presidency of Donald Trump, the blame is firmly on the shoulders of the Clinton Campaign and the colluding Democratic National Committee (DNC). There is no blame on any other candidate or their supporters who were hapless victims of the Clinton Election Team running the most dishonest campaign in US History...
The future of our country and the world was/is at stake with the people against the plutocracy, and the election came down to two of the worst possible candidates in history from their efforts...
Whether the the Left Liberal Progressive can find a home in the Democratic Party is strongly in doubt. Their input to candidates and policy being ignored and circumvented by the party hierarchy will not be tolerated by the progressives, the current economic and environmental situation is too urgent . The current lack of a genuine post mortem analysis of the flawed and failed Clinton Campaign without consequences and genuine change in the "New Democrat Party" to abandon it's NeoLiberal Third Way bias and allow the peaceful transition to return to the working middle class people and the badly needed "New Deal" for this country. Without that extinction of the Democratic Party is ensured a new Left Liberal Progressive Party will be born.

Wow. The D/R division gets sullied further.
Direct influence, and probably money went to the R campaigns from the D campaign of Hillary. And she lost. Boohoo.

I agree fully the Julian Assange deserves the Nobel Prize for his work, the world dodged a deadly bullet in this election. No one that lusts for power like Hillary did, will do any good with that power, if they succeed in obtaining it. In addition the people surrounding her that would have accompanied her into the White House or had input into staffing positions in the administration would have made it a "Den of Thieves" the likes of which the world has never see even in the most corrupt Banana Republic...

An Incredibly Expensive Bullet Dodge
There is every reason to believe that the Republicans will abuse their power and completely eliminate the New Deal laws which helped to make this nation the global powerhouse that it now is. I don't expect that any election in the future will be honest. Not when election fraud, Citizens United, and massively unfair gerrymandering are the rule and not the exception.

It better get cleaned up before that
or we will all be doomed to serfdom in the new age of Corporate Feudalism that is even now rushing in upon us - assuming we survive the massive climate catastrophe that also awaits if we don't clean house sooner.
100% right, exactly on the mark
I want to tip my hat to you, you old son of a sailor. You've stated 100% exactly my thoughts, view and analysis of the situation.
WAY better than I've been able to, WAY BETTER.
Thanks man.
Quite honestly the Demorat party must die. A new party must be born. The Demorats will FOREVER be tarred by the actions exposed in these emails. There is NO hope for them.
I plan to call Keith Ellison's office on Monday asking Keith to help form and help lead a new party.

Thanks Dennis1958, I too believe...
That the Democratic Party has tarnished itself beyond redemption and will suffer from the unsavory image they made for themselves. I doubt they will be able to cleanse themselves enough to ever get rid of it, and certainly by what we see with "BlameGate" and the continued denial of any wrongdoing despite the "Transparency" that has been afforded by WikiLeaks it is unlikely they will...
Rather than fight to clean up the Democratic Party and gain the burden of the tarnished image it may truthfully be better and quicker to just start new again...

Once a Senator or Congressman is seated.
They can change their Party affiliation at whim and dare.
A new Party could be born with legislators in place.
They wouldn't be the majority, but the Demorats aren't either.
I suggest the new party be picky about which Demorats to accept of course.
Bernie's campaign and Trumps election prove that a populist movement is afoot, right now.
2018 is then run from the experience of those leaving the Demorat Party and the grassroots activisim that saw Bernie beat Hillary in fundraising. $27 at a time.
This is what I intend to propose to K. Ellison.

What's really depressing
Is that in their rotten and malignant hearts, most of the DNC types are far more comfortable with the idea of a President Trump than they would have been with a President Sanders. The name of the game is graft, and as long as the dirty money keeps flowing they don't especially care whether red team or blue team is in charge. No accident that the Bushes and Clintons are thick as thieves, because at the end of the day the only thing that really separates them is the color of their jerseys.

Absolutely!
Sanders represented everything the powers fear. The very thought of Sanders ridding politics of the unbridled money makes TPTB shudder in horror. Had Bernie won the primary, it would not have surprised me to see the DNC actively campaign against him. The people of this country missed a once in a lifetime opportunity to see the country make a dramatic change of direction with Bernie. I have no doubt I'll never see another opportunity like that in my lifetime. What a shame!

The people of this country
The people of this country missed a once in a lifetime opportunity to see the country make a dramatic change of direction with Bernie.
AMEN!!! to that
Worst campaign strategy ever
And we suspected all along that the media were pushing Trump to help Hillary. Maybe they overdid it, because I saw several Trump speeches live on MSNBC without commercial interruption. No other candidate got that treatment.
"We've done the impossible, and that makes us mighty."
That Media was Instructed
I think an important element that also needs highlighting is that the campaign requested/instructed the media. Further emails within the WikiLeaks pile confirm the traffic between the campaign/DNC/Media confirm that they published what they were instructed. This 'news' people watching CNN, MSNBC, etc. was virtually scripted by a political campaign.
Yet I still see screaming about this 'favor' they did to Trump, the free air time, and it was the "media's fault!" Um, because that's what they were 'supposed' to do, via DNC request.
Media Compliancy definitely needs discussion
When you hear CNN say it is against the law to read WikiLeaks and only "News Reporters" can view and report them you have some idea of the level of reporting they do...
Even Carl Bernstein comes out saying the "Clinton Controversy" isn't as big as Watergate. Okay Carl, You have just gone from being one of the guys that brought down Tricky Dick Nixon, to being a "Partisan Political Hack."
The role of the media in this "Clinton Conspiracy" is on an Unprecedented Level never seen before in US History. So much of the American Electorate was enclosed in the Clinton Bubble of Misinformation that being and Uninformed Voter became the new Norm and defending being uninformed was off the charts.
Every facet of the media was overrun with misreporting or under reporting the Clinton stories from the largest television networks, newspapers, and magazines, to the internet where the largest websites joined in, right down to social media trolls for Clinton...
There was "No Stone Unturned."
Even "Illegal Activities" were openly dismissed as being okay because it was Hillary and she is the "Leona Helmsley of Politics" or "To Big To Prosecute."
The problem is that in the internet age there is always truthful information digitally stored and it is getting revealed by FOIA Requests, investigations & subpoenas, whistleblowers, hackers, or lapses in security, where it is found in the open, and there is always someone willing to publish that information. This Election Cycle we saw an unprecedented level of "Firemen" running around "Extinguishing the Flames" of any story unfavorable to the Clintons dismissing it as "Conspiracy Theory, Unsubstantiated or whatever else it can be dismissed as no matter what evidence or logic backs the information...
I hope to find more time to do several more detailed post mortem's of the failed Clinton Campaign with backing from WikiLeaks... We need to do this...
This story is bigger than Watergate and Carl Bernstein is not only wrong, but he is part of the wrongdoers...

but more will need to be done on certain candidates to undermine their credibility among our coalition (communities of color, millennials, women) and independent voters.
