More Artic Methane Craters found
In the summer of 2013 Andrei Plekhanov, an archaeologist at the Scientific Centre of Arctic Studies in Salekhard, Russia. Plekhanov visited one of the craters and measured methane at 9.6%, normally at .000179%. A total of 7 large craters have been reported as well as many smaller craters, as many as 20-30.
Apparently the melting permafrost releases methane which pops to the surface, popping like a soap bubble. Many of the original craters have filled with water and scientists have noted vapors emanating from the surface of one of the water filled craters. During the same time period these methane craters were formed, methane releases in the Arctic Ocean have increased.
A leading Russian expert sounded an alert over safety because one new Siberian crater, surrounded by at least 20 "baby holes", is just six miles from a major gas production plant.
He predicts up to 30 more are waiting to be discovered.
By now, you’ve heard of the crater on the Yamal Peninsula. It’s the one that suddenly appeared, yawning nearly 100 feet in diameter, and made several rounds in the global viral media machine. The adjectives most often used to describe it: giant, mysterious, curious. Scientists were subsequently “baffled.” Locals were “mystified.” There were whispers that aliens were responsible. Nearby residents peddled theories of “bright flashes” and “celestial bodies.”

That's very bad news, for two reasons
Methane is 84 times more potent a greenhouse gas than carbon dioxide. And methane contributes to a feedback loop in which higher temperatures melt permafrost and release even more methane currently trapped inside.
Amazing
What if you were walking along with friends and all of a sudden came upon this?
What and where is that?
Scientists are concerned that conspiracy theories may die out if they keep coming true at the current alarming rate.
Probably not a municipal golf course
A hole...
that size would surely improve my game, maybe.
Russia, one of the first craters found
aerial photo, the crater is probably 200-300 ft across.

All these warnings
and we are still in collective denial of climate change. Scientists have been warning us for years and we continue upon our merry little way like it is not going to happen. Our government and our elected officials REFUSE to take the massive proactive steps to save civilization while the super rich corporatists continue to line their re-election coffers. What is needed is far greater than what any of us individuals can do. It is tragic that the sociopaths are running things.
Do I hear the sound of guillotines being constructed?

What scares me is the potential for
the % of O2 dropping. Avoiding an extinction event appears to be more difficult as we go from 350ppm to 400ppm. If it was just the rise of ocean levels I would be good with that, but its not.
