Standing Rock, November 10
This essay will be a conglomeration of links and info from the last week or so, since I've been away. Thank you to those who posted on NoDAPL in my absence. Let's start with a quote and image from LaDonna BraveBull Allard, one of the leaders, which puts the presidential election into some perspective.
For more on her, see http://www.wisdomoftheelders.org/turtle-island-storyteller-ladonna-brave...
For a current view of what's happening on the ground, here's a video from Myron Dewey that was published on November 9. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kMmXhWYRyd8 (26:40)
Here's the latest statement (November 8) from the Dakota Access company, declaring its intention to drill under the river despite not having the requisite permits. They consider themselves above the law and not subject to regulations, and the Obama administration has done nothing to indicate that this is not true. Note that Obama's "let this play out for a couple of weeks" will mean that the drilling will be started and maybe completed while this Democratic administration does nothing.

Here's an ACLU petition to sign, if you haven't yet. https://action.aclu.org/secure/Standing-Rock?redirect=StandingRockTW&ms=...
The water protectors are calling for massive demonstrations and actions on November 15 all over the country. For an event near you, see https://actionnetwork.org/event_campaigns/nov-15-nodapl-day-of-action-at...
If there isn't already an action scheduled in your area, feel free to initiate one!
Over the weekend, close to 500 clergy members from around the country converged at Standing Rock and also did civil disobedience at the ND governor's mansion. Many were arrested, and some refused bail in solidarity with the other arrestees. Here is a nice set of photos.

And here's some excellent coverage. http://bsnorrell.blogspot.com/2016/11/solidarity-standing-rock-clergy-an...
Also over the weekend, Harold Frazier, chairman of the Cheyenne River Sioux, wrote a letter demanding an explanation for the macing of the people at the river and asking for the dismissal of Col. John W. Henderson of the Army Corps of Engineers.
I require an explanation from the Corps why it has deputized North Dakota law enforcement agencies to spray unarmed people with mace, shoot them with rubber bullets, and terrorize them with guns and helicopters on federal property.

This article from the Nation (of all places) on Hillary's silence (and therefore complicity) on the abuses is a partial explanation of why she didn't get the support she might have in the election. https://www.thenation.com/article/hillary-clintons-silence-on-standing-r...
Yes! magazine has been doing an amazing job of giving voice to indigenous people and providing action items for those of us who can't be at the camps. Here's a lovely article that lays out the two world views that are at odds in this struggle. http://www.yesmagazine.org/people-power/the-humvees-and-the-white-horse2...
The following article reproduces a letter from October 28, from Chief Arvol Looking Horse to President Obama (emphasis in original). http://bsnorrell.blogspot.com/2016/10/chief-arvol-looking-horse-to-obama...
When you met with our People on your campaign trail in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, you stated that you are a Lawyer and understand Treaty Documents. You told us that you realized our Treaties were violated and you would address these violations against our People if you became President. This was your Word. . . . You are ignoring our pleas to use your time as President to move us toward sustainable development as fast as possible because our Mother Earth . . . is sick and has a fever.
Finally, here's a statement from Dallas Goldtooth about the organized response when a potential rapist was discovered at the camp. Using restorative justice techniques and indigenous approaches, this is how the people dealt with things. We all have a lot to learn from this about transparency, protection, honoring women's words, and dismantling misogyny and rape culture. https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=10105924686537493&id=1216853

Jimmy Dore video on the Militarized Police response
and brutality toward peaceful prayer and dance protests at Standing Rock. Makes a moral person ashamed to be an American.
Length 9:59
Donnie The #ShitHole Douchebag. Fake Friend to the Working Class. Real Asshole.
I appreciate his support, but . . .
. . . I just wish he would make his point without repeatedly calling the cops "pussies." The idea that the worst thing you can call a man is a slang term that refers to women and their genitals is troubling to me. It's similar to the way the military and some sports teams will refer to men as "ladies" as an insult or a prod.
There are so many accurate words that could be used to describe the actions of the cops -- cowardice, despicable, authoritarian, anti-democratic, tools of the oligarchy, etc. -- that the language Jimmy uses is weak in comparison.
So much of what he says is right-on. I just wish he avoided using sexist language as a put-down of men. fwiw.

Yeah I agree
Jimmy could have used a better expression. He's a comedian , not a journalist. He gets excited and is often less PC that some might like.
I'll be glad to remove it if it is offensive. Just let me know.

No need to take it down
I'm not a censor. Just expressing my opinion that he could have made a better word choice. Glad to know you agree, Citizen.
As I said above, he does make some good points, which are worth hearing.

Excellent , thanks. Going now to look for action near us...
A truth of the nuclear age/climate change: we can no longer have endless war and survive on this planet. Oh sh*t.
So 350NM has an event in front of the US Corp in Albuquerque
of Engineers before noon. We might take the NMRailrunner down to join it.
Or there is one in Santa Fe later that day in front of Bank of America.
Think there is a native american action at the State Capitol that day as well.
You?

They Should Combine A Social Media Blitz With This
Creating a NoDAPL image for things like Facebook profile avatar and Wall image, Twitter, etc. Giving people who can't get off work a way to participate and show solidarity.

I found today numerous images already on Facebook from a number
of diverse organizations which are participating any of which could be used for a profile pic.

Great summary...
of the battle of our time...
Democracy Now talks with Bill McKibben, co-founder of 350.org. He’s the author of several books, including "Eaarth: Making a Life on a Tough New Planet." His recent article for The New York Times is titled "Why Dakota is the New Keystone." (13 min)

I also thought the Jimmy Dore video CoE posted is really good.
“Until justice rolls down like water and righteousness like a mighty stream.”
THIS act of stealing the Native Anerican's land is
representative of the reasons why people voted against Clinton IMO. She never once stood up for these protesters. She said that 'all sides need to be heard'. Well, the Clinton creature has heard our side. Does she like it? And where the fuck is Obama. He might have called a 'moratorium' on work, but the pipeline company just gave him the finger. When he really WANTS to do something, it gets done. So, where the fuck is he now? (Rhetorical question.)
More of us, MYSELF INCLUDED, need to get personally involved in this fight. They need supplies. Somehow the people who really care about the land, the laws, and freedom from predatory corporations need to band together to help. I was in North Dakota during winter once. If you've never been there during that time, I don't know how to describe it to you except think 'Antarctica'.
The treatment of these protectors of the land sure as Hell makes a mockery out of the myth of our 'democracy', doesn't it?

I spent seven winters there, courtesy of Uncle Sam.
Thinking about heading back there, pretty soon.
