It Seems Really Dumb to Post This, But...
There have been too many people who are shocked/surprised when they actually meet me or talk to me on the phone, and find out I am not a 28-year-old man with olive skin.
The 28-year-old man with olive skin (my avatar) is Mr. Universe from the movie Serenity, just as my handle is a famous (and beloved) quote from that character:

So that's not who I am. I don't have half the mad digital chops he does, nor am I as good-looking.
And by the way, if you haven't seen that movie yet, OMFG find it on Netflix or Amazon streaming or put it on your Netflix DVD cue or if you still have video stores wherever you are, go out and get it right now, because it's some great science fiction. And while you're at it, rent Firefly and watch it too.
EDIT: No, start off by watching Firefly...and then, AFTERWARDS, watch Serenity. It'll go much better that way.
So who am I?
I am a white woman, 48 years old, Florida native. I'm a (mostly) out-of-work English PhD who occasionally teaches Business Writing at the local community college and is wondering about other kinds of teaching (Montessori teaching, prison education.)
I gave up the possibility of a tenured academic career by running off after Howard Dean and John Kerry to save the country. Dumbest decision of my life. Interests in sustainability, independent media, gaming, fantasy, science fiction, musical theater. Jeez, this is starting to feel like a bio on a dating site!

Would also add, what the heck difference does the gender of the person you're reading/responding to make, unless you want to make some flirty-type joke or something inappropriate for one gender or the other? I've known some people online for years in some cases while having no idea of their gender and it only mattered when mentioning them elsewhere to another party and having to avoid the whole he/she designator in sentences as a result, lol. That's embarrassing...

However I'm four times older now. I've been through the Firefly series twice now. Have you ever watched the series "Dollhouse"? (Also Whedon)

Took your advice
Binge watched all of Firefly and then rented Serenity. Great stuff. It would have been really interesting to see if they would have tried to finish the series off with the same plot line.
