Hillary on tape about Bernie supporters Edit: NOW WITH SOUND FILE

White noise machines are so useful when you don't want the public to hear what you really think of them... I guess this isn't quite a 47% moment, but it's not pretty:

From POLITICO

Clinton gives her take on Sanders supporters in leaked fundraising recording

Leaked audio of a conversation between Hillary Clinton and donors during a February fundraising event shows the Democrat nominee describing Bernie Sanders supporters as "children of the Great Recession" who are "living in their parents’ basement." Speaking at a Virginia fundraiser hosted by former U.S. ambassador Beatrice Welters, Clinton says in a clip released by the Free Beacon Friday that many of her former primary opponent's supporters sought things like “free college, free healthcare,” saying that she preferred to occupy the space "from the center-left to the center-right" on the political spectrum.

Here's more:

"There is a strain of, on the one hand, the kind of populist, nationalist, xenophobic, discriminatory kind of approach that we hear too much of from the Republican candidates," she said. "And on the other side, there’s just a deep desire to believe that we can have free college, free healthcare, that what we’ve done hasn’t gone far enough, and that we just need to, you know, go as far as, you know, Scandinavia, whatever that means, and half the people don’t know what that means, but it’s something that they deeply feel."

But really, like Bill, she feels our pain:

Clinton added: "If you’re feeling like you’re consigned to, you know, being a barista, or you know, some other job that doesn’t pay a lot, and doesn’t have some other ladder of opportunity attached to it, then the idea that maybe, just maybe, you could be part of a political revolution is pretty appealing. "I think we all should be really understanding of that," Clinton said.

Oh, well, I guess she really gets us then (um, I'm not even slightly in the demographic she's dissing, and yet she's smearing me, too...).

This was a writeup of the original event:

This is the recent post with the sound file:
http://freebeacon.com/politics/clinton-privately-warned-u-s-cyber-attack...

Here's the sound file:

What's this "FINALLY, we're talking about issues"?! Bernie was ALWAYS talking about issues...

And yet another coughing fit.

Wow - she goes on and on and on about Flynt. Can't say I've heard her say anything about Flynt since Michigan voted last spring.

About 60% through the tape she says she never understood what Sanders means by 'revolution.' There's a shocker.

trump gave a speech in Novi, MI, yesterday. The little bit I heard on CNN as I was driving home was channeling Bernie - people having to work 2, 3 jobs to afford Obamacare. Talked about people having to work longer & harder. Then he added that he's 70 & he's working longer & harder running for prez.

He was getting big applause for this stuff, and it sounded like a large crowd.

Meanwhile, what was Wolfie's, etc analysis of the speech? That he was sticking to the teleprompter. His speech went right over their heads. Listen to the crowd! Listen to what they react positively to. look at the right direction/wrong direction polls. This country doesn't want more of the same, and trump is the only candidate offering that. Hillary might as well be Coolidge or Hoover with her "no we can't". When the hell did American's ever knowingly vote for "I want things to be worse, not better, for my children & grandchildren."?

Here's the full speech on Cspan. https://theintercept.com/2016/09/30/hillary-clinton-center-right/

I refuse to listen to the clip, but I notice you mention a coughing fit, Ms. Grin. Did I read correctly that this event was in February?

Huh. Kind of gives lie to the "pneumonia" story, huh?

but what became clear to me is that her entire campaign and her views on what is possible are predicated on leaving the fundamentals unchanged; that our military needs to continue in its application of violence around the world, that our corporate domination of the economy and tax issues is as it should be, and addressing the challenge of climate change without addressing the ongoing extraction of fossil fuels and the underlying culture of consumption and growth that is driving it. She is the embodiment of the anti-revolutionary. Of course she does not 'understand' Bernie's call for revolution.

It is not going to be enough. Not by a long shot. Incrementalism is no solution at all.

The horizon of her vision for our future does not seem to reach beyond the term or two in the White House that she feels she is entitled to. She's just trying to fulfill her dream and has very little interest in the dreams and the future the rest of us face.

soften the blow. In other words they realize that they have sucked to much out of the system and it is collapsing around them. Of course the Oligarchs are not looking to create a truely democratic socialist structure ala Scandinavia. They have hired Hillary to throw enough crumbs at the peasants to have them put down their pitchforks but at the same time make sure it is only a few crumbs.

"I think we all should be really understanding of that," Clinton said.

As in, understanding that we need to be careful not to tell them what we really think of them.

Rather than, understanding their plight so we can do something to help their situation.

saying that she preferred to occupy the space "from the center-left to the center-right" on the political spectrum.

All the sober, responsible Republicans, the Neoliberal, Neoconservative ones who keep their racism quiet, are flocking to Hillary, joining the establishment Democrats whose views they share. I've seen this called "realignment" but I'm starting to think that we're seeing the genesis of a One-Party State.

Keeping in mind that what she calls "the center" would have been called "the right" 30 years ago, this so-called center is where the .01% are. So we have One Big Party of establishment Dems and establishment Repubs with fringe outliers on the actual left and the fascist right.

But in fact, outside of the bubbles of DC and Manhattan and Silicon Valley, there actually isn't anybody there. There are the donors, the pundits and politicians who serve them, and a decent percentage of the upper-middle class. That's who's there.

If it were really the "big middle," a bell curve hump, she wouldn't need to scare people into voting for her.

There's very little there. Republican rank and file, which she expected to flock to her, are not flocking in near as great numbers as she supposed. She thought, I guess, that having Cheney and Bush on her side would make the little people of the right fall in line.
Oops.

Krugman came to the defense of Sweden when right wingers attacked it as a socialist welfare hell hole and claimed that our version of a third world country, the state of Mississippi, was better off. This was in 2002. What happened to him along the way to the 2016 primaries? Pods?

But read what Krugman wrote about what the Swedes have achieved, and what in effect Hillary claims we cannot have given her constant definition of herself as the establishment/status quo candidate. This is the "dream" which is unattainable and which younger people should give up on.

http://www.nytimes.com/2002/10/20/magazine/for-richer.html

A few months ago the conservative cyberpundit Glenn Reynolds made a splash when he pointed out that Sweden's G.D.P. per capita is roughly comparable with that of Mississippi -- see, those foolish believers in the welfare state have impoverished themselves! Presumably he assumed that this means that the typical Swede is as poor as the typical resident of Mississippi, and therefore much worse off than the typical American.

But life expectancy in Sweden is about three years higher than that of the U.S. Infant mortality is half the U.S. level, and less than a third the rate in Mississippi. Functional illiteracy is much less common than in the U.S.

How is this possible? One answer is that G.D.P. per capita is in some ways a misleading measure. Swedes take longer vacations than Americans, so they work fewer hours per year. That's a choice, not a failure of economic performance. Real G.D.P. per hour worked is 16 percent lower than in the United States, which makes Swedish productivity about the same as Canada's.

But the main point is that though Sweden may have lower average income than the United States, that's mainly because our rich are so much richer. The median Swedish family has a standard of living roughly comparable with that of the median U.S. family: wages are if anything higher in Sweden, and a higher tax burden is offset by public provision of health care and generally better public services. And as you move further down the income distribution, Swedish living standards are way ahead of those in the U.S. Swedish families with children that are at the 10th percentile -- poorer than 90 percent of the population -- have incomes 60 percent higher than their U.S. counterparts. And very few people in Sweden experience the deep poverty that is all too common in the United States. One measure: in 1994 only 6 percent of Swedes lived on less than $11 per day, compared with 14 percent in the U.S.

Somehow I don't see Krugman thinking, much less saying anything that would cause event a moment's pause to Clinton: he was almost all-in for her in 2008 and he's played all of his child in this time around. Maybe some day hell have a bad night when he realizes that his conceit, "conscience of a liberal", is about as oxymoronic when applied to him as "compassionate conservative" is to the Shrub.

You're confusing Paul Krugman with Stepford Krugman. I think the switch was made in 2013. If anyone wants to get specific, he changes his defense of the Fed. Before the switch Paul Krugman accurately defended the need for the Fed to act because the government is unable to develop an appropriate fiscal policy. He noted that their tools in this area were blunt. BUT he always had suggestions for how the Fed could get money to Main Street instead of continuing to expand the money supply inside the financial sector. After the switch Stepford Krugman was all Fed all the time. Stepford Krugman's other positions evolved accordingly.

I often wonder what he wants. I hope Clinton works out better for him than Obama did for Robert Reich.

Thanks for the link.

Donnie The #ShitHole Douchebag. Fake Friend to the Working Class. Real Asshole.

Bill Clinton had an revealing appearance on Colbert. Colbert asked him why Sanders is so popular. His answer was because his supporters THINK they have been shafted and the rich have gotten all the gains. Clinton in no way offers that they may be right about being shafted and all the gains going to the rich. This is a classic and constant meme used by right wingers--it is just disgruntled people, which it appears to me, what Hillary is saying about Sander supporters.

And look at how Clinton lights up when asked about Trump. And I just realized, Bill Clinton said nearly the same thing about Trump that Putin said, which of course has been twisted beyond belief. Clinton said Trump is the most interesting candidate in the field. Putin said "colorful"--but finding the closest word, "interesting" could be used also for Putin's quote.

The faux-progressive media likes to squawk about folks who think Clinton is anywhere as dishonest as Trump. It's certainly true that Trump is a pathological liar but even his supporters don't believe most of what he says: he's a list, but a bad one. Clinton, on the other hand is considerably more subtle about it and her likes are more likely to ensnare the listeners— hence some of her rabid supporters. Thus Clinton is a much more effective and dangerous liar, though not in the same league as the modern day master of the art, our current president.
