Boycott the Debate
Submitted by Steven D on Mon, 09/26/2016 - 10:42am
This will be short and sweet.
There is no reason to boost the TV ratings of NBC for an event that will add nothing to the political discourse in this country.
You wanna watch reality TV shows, there are much better ones available.
These debates do not include Jill Stein and/or Gary Johnson so what value do they offer us? It's just free publicity for two very loathsome candidates who would rather attack one another then offer any real solutions to our world's very serious problems.
This debate and the ones to come are frankly just another part of the scam to give the appearance we live in a democracy and not an oligarchic tyranny.
Don't fall for the con.
Do something better with your time tonight.
That is all.
Comments
I think the debates should consist of the ghost of
Rodney Dangerfield as Trump and Bill Clinton in drag as Hillary. For a bonus Hillary could dress as Bill. We could see some real truth there.
I couldn't stand to watch tonight, even with the sound off. I told my husband last night that I might be willing to tune into NPR with the sound turned off.
Edited to correct spelling.

If people really feel it's all a scam,
boycott the presidential election.
If nobody notices
the boycott did it happen? You know like the tree falling thingy. I'm not boycotting the debate I just can't take watching The Mad Bomber or the Hairball. One of the reason's this absurd sick election pisses me off is that I can't stand listening to or seeing either of these psycho's. I think it's going to be fixed for Hillary as it's her turn. Either way I do not look forward to 4-8 years of having to listen see or read about the next 'president'. Usually takes at least 6 month for me to gag at the sight of the commander and Chief this time around I could not even take Hillary's lying demagoguery and sword rattling at the Dem. convention.
What a sick farce this particular electoral circus is. A pox on both there houses. About boycotting the election I just might but it won't be a boycott more like I just don't give a shit. I will vote we have several ballot measures that I care about. Even the ballot measures that pass and become law here in Democratic Oregon are 'worked around' (ignored) by our crooked Governors, Mayors and so called representatives. I think I will go Green and Jill if only to get a third party eligible to officially run.. Might as well protest vote until the real 'political revolution' starts.
Depends, if the vote total is way low, historically low,
say in the lower 40 percent or even lower, you can bet people are going to notice and are going to discuss it. If either Clinton or Trump wins with less than 25% of the voting public, better yet, less than 20% of the voting eligible public voting for them, it will have to be noticed.
I think if an organized boycott had taken place with the support of key activists and activist organizations, we could have made the world notice. But it's too late for that now. We're going to get either Trump or Clinton.
We could make them notice if we want to, we could do a lot of things if we wanted to.
In the end though for me, I've decided I have to boycott this political system because I truly believe it must be changed before we Serfs can have any semblance of power over our own lives and this country. I believe participating in it only perpetuates it. I've said that before and I understand most here don't agree with that, but it's really only hardened my stance on it.
I think in the end the vast majority of people are not going to like their new President and will be in a "can't wait" mode to elect themselves someone different. Always someone different might be the answer. It will be if only they can get campaign finance reform, repeal Citizens United, get the money out of politics, the same old shit that makes them hope some changes to the system and everything will be all right, then we'll have a democracy.
If only....
Before any of that can happen, those holding the reins of power will have to decide they really don't want to be powerful any more. Like that's ever going to happen voluntarily. It would be a first.
Power wants more power, money wants more money. When has that ever not been the case? Perhaps if they thought it might cost them their lives, and not just the lives of the poor and those who serve them in the military and 'homeland' protection services.
We will need a real revolution for what ails us, not a voting 'revolution'. Things are not just not bad enough, yet, for that to happen. But it may be coming, either that or an uninhabitable planet. Whichever comes first.
“ …and when we destroy nature, we diminish our capacity to sense the divine, and understand who God is, and what our own potential is and duties are as human beings.- RFK jr. 8/26/2024
Agree, but things are bad enough now.
It's just the living conditions of Americans collectively haven't quite reached a level of desperation that might spark a popular uprising. But the conditions relative to the prospect of world war, the effects of climate change, continuing rise in wealth inequality, etc., are bad enough to justify taking the bastards down.
" Always someone different might be the answer. "
Exactly Al. The someone is never coming from this broken sick system. I don't think a 'someone' is ever the answer I don't believe in magic, Bernie, Obama, The Beatles, God, or any other leader that says I will lead you. People need to quit being afraid of real change. No one can put this Humpty together again. It's up to people globally to withdraw consent to be governed by these psychos. Having 'leaders' may be a human need but man oh man we all need at this point to take Bob's advise and 'don't follow leaders, watch the parking meters'. The dream is way over. Let's move on out.

I like Jill Stein. That's all.
I can make a sincere gesture in a room full of liars. And, until there's a lot more of us, they probably won't bother purging our votes. They'll focus on purging Trump votes.

Easy to skip this
Each candidate is unlistenable in his or her own way.
I have a hard time watching even when I like the candidate.
And hello everybody! I used to hang with you all on dkos as mightymouse. Nice place you've got here!
Hi mightymouse! It's good to see Kossacks here in the land of

We used to have a dog like that - a poodle/terrier mix iirc. She was a great dog.
Hi and welcome...
Glad you like it. We're pretty comfortable here. Nice to be able to speak your mind without looking over your shoulder.

Yes, welcome, former mightymouse!
I haven't lived in Dallas for a long time, but I keep the name out of inertia.
You'll like it here, I hope. We're an opinionated bunch, but no brainwashing is required to hang out or post here. It's like Daily Kos Anonymous.

I will not be watching the
I will not be watching the debates, I may watch the protests, and likely will be playing a game instead as I have no interest in the agony of listening to either mainstream candidate.
So long, and thanks for all the fish

to quote a memorable line from the Woody Allen movie "Bananas". In fact, the mythical Republic of San Marcos, in which dictators get bumped off with Wide World of Sports cameras rolling, seems like a beacon of Jeffersonian democracy compared to the current iteration of the US of A. Dam Right I'm Watching This Debate
When is the last time someone was allowed to ask Hellery a real embarrassing question? Hell, even Bernie pulled his punches in their debates.
I want to watch that wench sweat. And possibly having a nervous breakdown of some sort with eyeballs twitching while rolling steel ball bearings in her hand (Capt. Queeg style). Hahahha.

I'm fairly certain
there will be no embarrassing questions asked even if a number of answers may end up that way.

Right. The moderator won't ask embarrassing Qs
But Trump and Hellery will be firing RPGs at each other, to which they will each have to counter argue.
Take a drink every time Hellery says "I won't justify that with a response!"

No way I'd boycott this shitstorm,
especially after reading that the Hillbots want "online support early and often." Great plan, what could possibly go wrong with that, eh?
My particular "online support" will consist mostly of retweeting Jill Stein, etc. Anyway, I think it's important to see -- firsthand -- what happens, rather than rely on someone else's take.

Part of it will be played within the confines of Palazzo Bollox, as my son has to watch some of it for homework purposes.

MNF. Resume. Jill Stein contribution
Watching MNF. Made-for-V narrative. Starting middle linebacker for Falcons was displaced for 7 months by Katrina as 10 year old kid. All players stand, and then after anthem stand in middle of field and hold hands as sign of unity against racism I guess. Announcer avoided saying it.
Sending out resumes.
Just got my last unemployment benefit check today. Will be sending part of it to Jill Stein.
For some reason, network execs say that
the debate will be the most-watched one ever: 100 million people. I can't imagine why.
Then again, I'm not even sure they'd report the numbers honestly.

Some think it will be a circus
And want to see what will happen. Bet a lot of them won't last the whole 90 minutes.
We fixed the cable for this
Apparently we unplugged the box by mistake about 6 mos ago. In any case, we have a routine established. I watch as long as I can until I start feeling ill, then I leave the room and my s.o. calls out any highlights. Sometimes I put on my noise suppression headphones so I can't hear him, either. But I will watch as much as I can stomach as I did with the 2 dozen Republican primary debates.
