Feds expansion of hacking (for your own good)

From 05.04.16--
So … Now the Government Wants to Hack Cybercrime Victims

https://www.wired.com/2016/05/now-government-wants-hack-cybercrime-victims/

The changes, to a federal court procedure known as Rule 41, were announced last week by the Supreme Court. They would let magistrate judges routinely issue search warrants to hack into computers outside their jurisdiction. The changes would also let magistrates issue a single search warrant for numerous computers in multiple jurisdictions, saving law enforcement the burden of having to obtain a separate warrant for each computer. This means a judge in Virginia could issue a single warrant for computers in California, Florida, Illinois and even overseas.

Update 09.14.16
The Feds Will Soon Be Able to Legally Hack Almost Anyone

https://www.wired.com/2016/09/government-will-soon-able-legally-hack-any...

The new plan to drastically expand the government’s hacking and surveillance authorities is known formally as amendments to Rule 41 of the Federal Rules of Criminal Procedure, and the proposal would allow the government to hack a million computers or more with a single warrant. If Congress doesn’t pass legislation blocking this proposal, the new rules go into effect on December 1. With just six work weeks remaining on the Senate schedule and a long Congressional to-do list, time is running out.

Wyden, Paul and Bipartisan Senators Call on Congress to Stop Massive Expansion of Government Surveillance and Hacking Power

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senators Ron Wyden, D-Ore., and Rand Paul, R-Ky., today introduced the Stopping Mass Hacking (SMH) Act to protect millions of law-abiding Americans from government hacking. The Stopping Mass Hacking (SMH) Act prevents recently approved changes to Rule 41 from going into effect. The changes would allow the government to get a single warrant to hack an unlimited number of Americans’ computers if their computers had been affected by criminals, possibly without notifying the victims.

Doesn't seem to be much of a priority--

H.R. 5321--A bill to prevent the proposed amendments to rule 41 of the
Federal Rules of Criminal Procedure from taking effect; to the

Hey! my dear friends or soon-to-be's, JtC could use the donations to keep this site functioning for those of us who can still see the life preserver or flotsam in the water.

Firefox on private does stop tracking via cookies, etc. However, your ISP knows exactly where you've been and they have the records of it. All of it. Of course, it would take a request from a LEA or a subpoena to get them to cough it up. But they would do that. Unless they're Apple, and even Apple complies with requests that don't involve them engineering their operating systems to allow a governmental back door.

So effectively, the gubmint will have authority to install its own botnet code on anyone's computer. And it could identify target computers by simply identifying visitors to any website it deems as a meeting place for "bad guys". Gee I wonder if a site that treats Clinton disrespectfully might qualify as a target? I'm lookin at you C99. And why not because they have such vaguely defined authority.

The changes to Rule 41 would make it easier for them to break into our computers, take data, and engage in remote surveillance.

Windows 10 already collects and transmits "Telemetry data" from your computer to Microsoft servers. M$ won't say what is in the data or what it is doing with the data. And there is no way for users to opt-out. Plus M$ is listed as an NSA partner in the Snowden documents. Smelling an eRat.

Psychopathy is not a political position, whether labeled 'conservatism', 'centrism' or 'left'.

A tin labeled 'coffee' may be a can of worms or pathology identified by a lack of empathy/willingness to harm others to achieve personal desires.
