Dems on BLM: “Don’t offer support for concrete policy positions.”

Leaked Memo Told Dems: ‘Don’t Offer Support’ For Black Lives Matter Policy Positions

The memo lists several suggestions for how Democratic congressional candidates should handle an encounter with a Black Lives Matter activist.

WASHINGTON ― “Don’t offer support” for the “concrete policy positions” of Black Lives Matter protesters, the chief organization charged with electing Democrats to the House of Representatives warned its candidates in an internal memo leaked online on Wednesday. The document was posted online by Guccifer 2.0, a hacker who has claimed to be responsible for the Democratic National Committee email leak. Guccifer claims the document is from the personal computer of House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.). A number of cybersecurity firms and Democrats have attributed the leaks to Russian hackers (though Guccifer 2.0 has denied working for the Kremlin).

The memo, which describes BLM as a “radical movement” that aims to “end ‘anti-black racism,’” lists several suggestions for how Democratic congressional candidates should handle an encounter with a Black Lives Matter activist. “If approached by BLM activists, campaign staff should offer to meet with local activists,” the memo reads. “Invited BLM attendees should be limited. Please aim for personal or small group meetings.” “Listen to their concerns,” it continues. “Don’t offer support for concrete policy positions.”

So much was said then about legitimate protest.

When BLM targets the Dem establishment, it's a little different.

Convenient? I always thought the way they went after Bernie was bullshit, and said so.

NN15 in Phoenix. I have no idea what they're about, and I don't believe they have a clue what they're about. Their "movement" is as vague as their leadership. If they have any. They some day may make a difference. Mostly they just seem to want attention. Once they get it they don't seem to know what to do with it, other than make themselves look bad. (see NN15). I don't hate them, they just don't matter much. Wish they did.

The NN protest bothered me a lot. I think they've done more since.
I felt Sanders was gracious. I think what he did subsequently was quite good.

I also deeply admired how he honored the Bland family. I was disappointed they did not acknowledge that more publicly. Hadhe been the candidate, he would have made substantial improvements. Clinton will not.

great job of turning lemons into lemonade. I just had hope, had it gone right, that Bernie would have picked up more support and more cred coming out of Phoenix. But he did something that Her Highness could never do... turn those lemons into lemonade. No way HRC pulls that off. She just leaves Phoenix as is and her supporters shrug it off. Damn, we're running the wrong damn candidate.

used them for votes and then has said NADA about the situation subsequently - I can't remember what I read about Chelsea helping to get some kind of foundation money into the city ahead of the primary. That got them the mayor's endorsement.

Her comment sure sounds like that one they've been bandying about of Bill's recently - that he's proud of the work they've done and who's against creating jobs... It's the graft we're against, Buddy.

I thought BLM was marginalized when it came apparent that early in the Democratic primaries, Sanders became their target, and Hillary was pretty much off limits. The one "confrontation" they had with Hillary was pathetic. They were like chastised children being lectured by their grandmother--totally co-oped. In addition, there was a conference in Philadelphia where one of the founders of the slogan met with a Democratic African American outreach person from the Hillary campaign you know just to listen to what they had to say. Nowhere did any "BLM" person confront establishment Hillary supporters in the way they confronted Bernie. Hillary supporters gleefully used BLM as a club to beat Sanders as racially insensitive. Even a writer at Black Agenda Report began to question their motives at the time. I thought for a while that there were people behind BLM using them to deliberately target and bash Sanders.

But, the slogan has gone beyond whatever its originators had thought or its actions during the primaries. It is now the official front/slogan or idea to organize around against police violence against African Americans. it is more reactive than proactive.

Yaldabaoth, Saklas I'm calling you. Samael. You're not alone. I said, you're not alone, in your darkness. You're not alone, baby. You're not alone. "Original Sinsuality" Tori Amos

Since about the first Clinton administration, the Democratic party establishment has marginalized or violently crushed any left wing insurgency whether inside or outside the party. These insurgences are more dangerous to the Democratic party establishment than even electoral defeats by the gop as those defeats still keep the establishment in place.

Obama, the FBI, and Democratic party city mayors violently crushed OWS. If a President Hillary cannot marginalize or buy out BLM leaders, it will be violently crushed like OWS. And Clinton will have the support of elected African American elected officials within the party, as BLM also threatens their position, power, and status. This movement in no way was started nor supported by traditional African American leadership.

This issue of policy is the same one raised against OWS. It is a tactic to simply marginalize the message by co-opting OWS into the party apparatus. Bernie in some sense represented the fate of what would have happened to the OWS movement if it was co-opted into Democratic party politics: crushed, cheated, and hectored in supporting a candidate that stands for everything they are against.

That is what I am afraid will happen. The success of the Democratic party establishment in co-opting movements makes it very difficult to achieve any real progress.

Both the Republicans and Democrats have learned that the way to prevent any more real movements from taking hold is to distract and co-opt. They have become very, very good at this. Add to this the fact that most people are expending most of their energy just trying to survive. Most of us have almost nothing left to fight the battles that need to be fought.

If there is any hope at all, it is through education and persistence. Even that may not be enough.

going to be "the party?" I thought I was "the party" up until five years ago when it became clear that my local yokel Dem party cared less about actually winning local elections than maintaining the status quo - Repub rule - so that they could go to all the political functions and parties. "Wink, we can't rock the boat, these Repubs are our neighbors, they shop at our businesses... " "okay, you keep doing what you're doing, I'm going to go rock some boats... " Alas, boat rocking here is every bit as difficult as everywhere else. We carry on.

What has stunned me is how the war zone called Chicago, my hometown,
hasn't gotten Rahm booted out, it's as if most if not all the black leaders
have succumbed or been bought off.

I keep scratching my head about this without finding a true answer.

Then she said, with a straight face, that chained CPI, which Obama was then planning, was not a cut to Social Security. That was a bald-faced lie, to deceive liberal Democrats and the poor. Now this."

After a few seconds, it occurred to me: She was not liberal then; she is not centrist now. She is merely a shape- shifting, vote seeker. She will appear to us in any form she thinks likeliest to receive votes, much like Hillary.

Was she that way back in 1976, when she got a job with the DNC? I hate to think so, but I think it's likely. I think it likely most or all politicians are that way. Even if they don't start that way, they morph. They are not worthy of our hero worship.

What Democrats these days think is "radical" is frightening. I am amazed that people getting hassled, arrested and killed by government employees because of their skin color and seeing the killers acquitted time after time have not started a war. I don't mean a fake war, like the war on drugs, either. I mean taking up arms. How people of color have been able to maintain is astounding.
