Report: Justice Department declined FBI request to investigate Clinton Foundation
http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/article/2599032
Justice Department officials decided against an investigation into the Clinton Foundation after the FBI requested the agency open a case into allegations of corruption stemming from Hillary Clinton's tenure as secretary of state.
But the Justice Department's public integrity unit declined to pursue the probe given what it characterized as insufficient evidence, according to a CNN report Wednesday.
The State Department's seemingly preferrential treatment of foundation donors under Clinton's leadership has raised questions about whether she and her aides ignored conflicts of interest in order to help the charity's most generous donors. Emails made public this week have deepened suspicions that donors were afforded access and favors that other outsiders could not get from the agency.
FBI Director James Comey declined to comment last month on whether the FBI's reported investigation of the Clinton Foundation had concluded with a separate probe into Clinton's emails. For months, reports had hinted at a widening FBI inquiry related to the philanthropy's foreign activities.
State Dept. shuts down questions on Clinton Foundation emails
http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/state-dept.-shuts-down-questions-about...
A State Department spokeswoman said Wednesday that the agency does not believe Hillary Clinton violated any ethics requirements by interacting with Clinton Foundation donors.
"We feel confident that all the rules were followed," Elizabeth Trudeau, State Department spokeswoman, said amid a backlash over previously undisclosed emails that showed the special access foundation donors enjoyed in the early months of Clinton's tenure at the agency.
Trudeau shut down questions during the agency's daily briefing about emails that suggested a Clinton Foundation official had informed one of Clinton's top aides that it was "important to take care of" an individual whose name was redacted. Clinton's aide responded that the agency was working to find him a position.
"I can't speak to specific cases," Trudeau said in response to multiple questions about whether the individual was hired and whether his consideration for a political appointment constituted nepotism.
The State Department spokeswoman refused to reveal the identity of the individual, whom the Clinton campaign has characterized as a low-level campaign advance staffer.
"I'm not aware of any review going on now," Trudeau said of any potential investigations into the apparent overlap of foundation and agency work.
She also dismissed inquiries about whether Cheryl Mills, Clinton's former chief of staff, lied under oath when she denied involvement in the botched handling of a 2012 Freedom of Information Act request for documentation of the email accounts Clinton used for official communication.
Documents made public Wednesday showed Mills had acknowledged receiving a notice of the "significant" request despite testifying in May that she had no recollection of it.

in court until recently was the right wing, much as the right wing is not going to go after Reagan. (Sadly, neither will the New Democrat allegedly left wing, but that's a separate problem.)
Hell, the left rationalized away an impeachment and Hillary's ignoring a court subpoena for two years until she alleged stumbled upon the relevant paperwork in the family dining room of the White House. I guess the Secret Service never saw who put them there after two years, either.

As this continues to come out, I find myself wondering...
about Senator Sanders' "Graciousness" to Hillary...
Because for a long while, we did stop talking about the damn emails...
And stayed Democratic.
And fought hard in an election that had been rigged from the start...
And suddenly Bernie has a brand spanking new Half million Dollar house, when it was established what "Modest" means he lived on during the primary.
I do not pretend I know what I do not know.
As I understand it
The money for the house was part of the estate left by Jane's father when he passed away.
I'd be more inclined to believe the Clinton's bodily threatened him and or his family before I'd believe he literally sold out a lifetime of work for money. But, hey, that's just me.

Third temporally or fourth house total?

From The Hill article that detroitmechworks
linked to in last night's EB (and the article on which it is based), this is the third house they own - one in Burlington, VT, one in D.C., and now this third $600,000 four-bedroom house on an island off the Vermont coast, which Jane said they would be using "seasonally."
Edit: I *think* they only own three houses now. That's all I've seen reported. Upkeep on just three can't be cheap . . .

3 is what I understand.
Their house in Burlington, and a condo in DC, and now the lake house.
They had a condo that jane's mom lived in part time/ they rented part time, but I believe that is sold.
Bernie also has the book deal. Did he get a larger advance than his 2 previous books would have warranted?
Oh, and I found Jane's mother's obituary.
Vacation house in Maine is mentioned.
http://www.fredericksburg.com/obituaries/bernadette-o-meara/article_b387...
If I were in my seventies, I'd pay off my other mortgages before
I used my inheritance to buy a third home. Don't they have at least one rental property, too? Not that I begrudge them. He was in Congress for over two decades and the first money he made on that was the money from the book of his filibuster. (Although...didn't the people own that, anyway? He prepared and delivered that speech as part of his responsibilities as a Senator.)
Well, that's you
maybe not them? I hear what you're saying, but maybe their circumstances are quite different.
I can't even believe I'm reading such a thread, because IMO, this is a classic, obvious diversionary thing--Bernie's New House. Really? No--it warrants little, if any, credence or importance.
You seem to have "heard" what you assumed I meant.
There were about ten posts about the house before mine, including some that implied wrongdoing. My post did not.
links please as to third "vacation" house
The Sanders own a home in Burlington which when seen in a tv interview appeared to be comfortable, but certainly not large or luxurious. They also have owned a townhome in DC. Nearly every member of Congress has two homes, one in their home state and one in DC. I do remember that they also owned a townhouse in Burlington which they rented out and where Jane's former husband lived while he was dying of cancer. Whether or not they still own that property, I do not know. Jane inherited some property with a house in Maine from her parents and they sold that property and used it for a down payment on this recent purchase. Compared to most members of Congress, Bernie and his family have lived very frugally. I see nothing wrong with them using Jane's inheritance to purchase this home.
If there are other "vacation " homes that the Sanders own, it would be helpful to see links showing that information.

The timing is a bit unfortunate
but opportunities come when they come, especially for lakefront property, and if you pass one up you may not get another.
There is no justice. There can be no peace.
Perhaps I overreacted.
And I agree the timing is exceptionally unfortunate.
It's not the first time I've been wrong. Won't be the last.
Yes, folks are correct that a 600,000 dollar house is not particularly extravagant. As a first house is a nice area.
Hell, my home town had far too many that cost that much. Of course, the prices were driven up by asshole rich people who don't live in the area and own vacation homes.
So I admit my bias, and that this looks awful to me. It makes me reconsider a lot, and second guess a lot of what went before. Which is what really hurts. If Sanders wanted to do lasting harm to his image, I can't think of a better way to do so than to start campaigning for Hillary, and the purchase of a new house while doing so makes it seem worse.
I do not pretend I know what I do not know.
It is, but maybe they decided fuck it,
after the year they had they deserve a house by the lake, especially since Bernie is getting up in years and they just got Jane's inheritance.

I read the article
There is no mention of three "vacation" homes, just the homes I listed above. I am very sure when Bernie retires from public service , they will no longer keep the townhouse in DC. Most long term members of Congress eventually buy a residence in DC. So they have their primary residence and they recently bought a second residence in their home state where they will vacation.

gg, please note the comma
in the header to my original comment: "*third*, 'vacation'" home, by which I meant that it is their third home and a vacation home, which I believe the article supports.
Sorry for any confusion. Never meant to imply they own three vacation homes.

I know exactly where they live.
Their home in Burlington is in a more affordable part of town. They bought and moved into it from a MUCH smaller ranch home when Jane's son and daughter-in-law moved out of state for a promotion. It's "large" but consistent with the rest of the neighborhood. Probably cost less than our house, which is far smaller but in a more expensive part of town.
The fact that this is a "thing" is patently ridiculous. Bernie and Jane have kids and grandkids whom they enjoy spending a lot of time with. Who the fuck cares if they, having lived quite modestly all these years, want to "splurge" on a vacation home? Jesus Christ. How many homes does HRC own, and what did they cost?

Besides
He was the mayor of a (smallish) city - that means a pension - and a congressman and a senator - paying more than $100,000 a year (now closer to $200,000) for what? 35 years? A $600k purchase after that is no surprise at all, even three is believable (his earlier homes , being older purchases, would obviously have cost less) In comparison(lol) when I bought my condo in "San Francisco" (actually a much less expensive suburb) my best year had been $24,000- and I put in a 32% down payment, so large relative to my income the broker had to report it to the DEA. (fortunately for me I was able to document 15 years of savings)

house count
One home in Burlington, VT where he's lived his adult life.
One home in Washington DC as those politicians do.
One home in Lake Chaplain from Jane's inheritance money, and IMHO will be their retirement home eventually when they sell the other two.
And Bernie is known for
And Bernie is known for frequent visits to Vermont, to keep in touch with the people he represents. Up until the campaign, I believe he was often to be found wandering the streets and chatting with people generally on ? a weekly basis? if I recall correctly?
As a Vermont representative, wouldn't he be required to maintain a home there? As well as a place to live in Washington, where he works so hard to represent the people he represents? It also used to be fairly common for people to have a vacation home...

is here. The house is extremely rustic and definitely not in the least luxurious. I would be willing to bet the major part of the cost was for the land, not the structures.

Everyone in Washington Knows Where the Bodies Are Buried
They are in, under and around the Clinton Foundation which is likely the largest fraud perpetrated on the American people and is more akin to Tony Soprano then anything else.
We are talking $billions of illicit money for the Clinton slush fund. Unfortunately we will most likely never see this exposed as it would screw over basically every Democratic politician in the USA and likely many Rethugs. Why do you think Obama endorsed her so strongly. Unfortunately he has gotten Clinton goo all over his presidency and he will go down or not based on them.
In a real world the Clintons and all their key staff, yes Huma and Cheryl and Brian I am talking about you would be spending decades in jail. Put them in a cell next to Trump
Not the largest fraud perpetrated on us. At least it's
private money. Our bloated military, allowing the wealthy to stash money overseas without paying taxes, and calling anyone who needs financial help a "deadbeat" and disparaging "entitlement programs," those would be my candidates for the biggest frauds perpetrated on the American people.
I like "Clinton goo," though, and agree with that! Also that Trump is also as shady as possible.
Please check out Pet Vet Help, consider joining us to help pets, and follow me @ElenaCarlena on Twitter! Thank you.
"Private money" hmm....
Problem with that formulation is that it's private money used to curry public favor, and then deducted from taxable income as a "charitable donation." I would say that any such "donation" should be considered a fraud perpetrated on us, and a rather large one, as the treasury is denied needed funds on one end, and then expensed with the funds necessary to carry out the curried favor mentioned previously. This starves social programs (not the military of course; that beast's maw is never denied) and helps propel the narrative of the "looming debt/budget crisis" that nearly all the politicians in DC parrot, thus lending credence to the austerity consensus in the hallowed halls of Congress and 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

That is true. They do take tax deductions for their donations,
although if they're a foreign government, not here. Of course it is unknown how much additional expense is involved. I still think the other frauds are probably larger.
