Minor Site Changes

Publishing an essay is now a two step process. You must now click the "Preview" button before the "Publish" button displays. IOW you must preview the essay before publishing.
Clicking the button to publish any content (essay, comment, delete, etc.) will now disable the button and a spinning "Processing" symbol will be displayed until the initial request to the server is returned. This should help with the double posts as a double click will not be possible.

Excellent.
Sorely needed and much overdue.
Thanks!
There are known knowns; there are things we know we know. We also know there are known unknowns; that is to say we know there are some things we do not know. But there are also unknown unknowns – the ones we don't know we don't know.

Thanks for your help, JtC.

That's my daughter's dog, JnH
We do doggy day care and his vision isn't good. But I swear he barks every time a butterfly lands on the porch or deck. Scares the snot outta me every time!
There is no such thing as TMI. It can always be held in reserve for extortion.
Thank you. I'm one of the worst at double posting.

Tablets can be problematic
I made a dumb suggestion the other day about how to fix this at the DB end, but this client side fix makes much more sense.

Yes...
I suspect touch screen devices cause most of the double posts, although this software seems to be hypersensitive to double taps. That and folks that are conditioned by a Windows environment to double click much of the time.
This client side fix will still allow double posts if folks wait for the spinning wheel to stop and hit the Save/Publish button a second time. But as folks get used to the idea that the disabled box and spinning wheel represent a server request sent and received, it will drastically cut down on the double posts.
One improvement
Whenever I preview and then return to edit the article, my tags disappear. If I save & publish, and edit, the tags are preserved.
“He may not have gotten the words out but the thoughts were great.”
The preview function...
only displays the title and body fields. The tags are still accessible in the tags field below the editor.
Thanks, Johnny.

hard to follow the indents sometimes
when a thread gets particularly lengthy and the comments get indented again and again and then making their way back to the margin it's hard to know what comment some people are responding to higher up in the thread. maybe there's something i'm missing to make it easier to track back to the original comment being commented on. perhaps it's just me.
I've been trying to solve that...
since this site was built. Eventually we'll be updating the software to a major version upgrade and hopefully that will be addressed.
In the meantime here's what I do when I must know the parent comment. I line my mouse cursor on the far left edge of the dividing line above my comment and then scroll up without moving the cursor until I come to the parent comment.
good tip with the cursor. thanks! n/t
