Clint Eastwood is an Old Pathetic Idiot.
So, Clint did an interview.
And the old guy decided to tell us that we're all far too sensitive about race and need to calm down about it. You see, things were DIFFERENT back in his day. He worked forty hours down at mill for tuppence a week...

And Clint has decided to tell us that we shouldn't want "Free" college, because he didn't go to college for free... except that before Reagan destroyed the California University system... Yeah, I believe that falls under the category of bullshit.
And Clint claims he also gave up dough to be a politician... which is a complete lie because when he was a mayor he spent just enough time in town to rail against some laws which were rendered moot by gentrification, then run off to Film 2 films during the time he supposedly gave up money to be a politician. One of which he won a Golden Globe for. Fucking liar. We won't even bother with the local regulations he ignored as mayor to build a bigger parking lot for his Hog's Breath Inn. Which also helped him make a nice tidy sum.
Clint also talks about how sad it was that his family had to relocate so his dad could get a job as a gas jockey. He doesn't seem to reflect on the fact that his mom wasn't ALSO working and he wasn't slapped into daycare like most kids are today, while mom and dad work odd hours for 30 hours a week and no medical.
Clint is also an Idiot. Clint Is also A Republican. But I repeat myself. Clint is also old and has money, and therefore his opinion, no matter how stupid, carries weight.
However, Clint was also the first time I remember my home town getting... unfriendly. Before Clint I used to ride my bike through town, by myself while my mom was at work during the summer. I used to go into the local game store, and never spend any money, but lord I had fun. I used to hang out at the park and the bookstore. I was able to enjoy my life, and never worry that I'd be accosted as one of the "Poor" kids, because there was a friendly atmosphere.
He was a really shitty mayor. Carmel never recovered. Go there today, and you'll find most houses empty, or filled with short term rentals. Rents are above what 2 adults working 2 jobs can afford. Labor is shipped in from Salinas, and you can't get a meal for under 20 bucks at any place save the grocery store deli. There's lots of stuff for rich folks though. Lots of wine, and expensive art galleries, and little cute dress shops where the dresses cost as much as a Buick. But for someone raised there, there's nothing. Which is why I'm no longer there.
Clint is old, and a bad politician who talks to chairs. He even knows it was stupid. We should stop listening to him.

I'm always amazed when people take actors
as some form of consultancy group.
Actors are great in their lane...
And some are phenomenal on workers rights, etc, (Especially those who work on union issues all the time, since screen actors have one of the last great unions.)
It's when they go on their "Self-Made Man" crap, and forget all the people who supported them that there's trouble.
I do not pretend I know what I do not know.
Clint should take his own advice.

Funny thing is that the Carmel Mayor race...
was an eerie prelude to our current one. National media incessantly gave Eastwood positive coverage, whereas you barely heard about the incumbent. Same as Schwarzenegger.
The media love their big products and always want to sell them in as many markets as possible, not realizing the damage these guys tend to do.
I do not pretend I know what I do not know.
Always separate the artist from the art
Movies like Unforgiven and Gran Torino (and his Super Bowl ad) were powerful and well done. It's just when he starts using his words that he goes completely off the rails.
It's almost like there are two parts of his brain that barely communicate.

I try, but sometimes...
some artist become so smug and distasteful that it becomes difficult for me to enjoy their work. Perhaps that's just having worked as an actor, but I don't really enjoy the work of people who I know are unpleasant to listen to in other venues.
I do not pretend I know what I do not know.
I actually used to like Meatloaf
I can no longer listen to his songs for that reason. Clint Eastwood movies have definitely got harder for me to watch since the chair talking incident but I admit to them being among my favorites.
Beware the bullshit factories.
Clint's closing in...
...on Pat Robertson territory.
