Last Night's Stalinist Convention

What I saw last night

Stalin - Hillary.jpg

"Non-party candidates were technically free to stand for election, if nominated by an appropriate state body and approved by the party. This in fact regularly happened, particularly in the lower soviet bodies."

"They held elections, but all the candidates were chosen by the Communist Party. Lenin wanted to avoid factionalism within the party, so he passed an emergency order to control the nomination process that remained in effect until 1989."

"If you vote against them they'll see it and they can retaliate (for example by getting you shifted to a crappier job). Criticism/issues could also be raised with candidates, but again this wasn't really encouraged."

I spent two otherwise nice nights of my life watching the Democratic Convention in Philadelphia. I have never done that before, nor really cared much. I was sickened. By the end of last night's Bill Clinton speech I felt like I had been bathing in a cesspool. I felt dirty and nauseous.

The election itself was rigged, with voter suppression, registration tampering, voter purging, fraudulent voting machine tallies, and shredding of millions of "rejected" ballots. I read through emails that clearly shows an active bias in favor of the party nominee. To the point of offering pay to play positions and special seating to donors to the nominee.

The entire process was a rigged show to emotionally blackmail people into accepting the leader of the corporate state. I saw a steady stream of little immigrant girls, disabled people, blind people and Bill Clinton... every sob story under the sun brought on stage to try and convince me that a known liar, totalitarian war monger and person with zero empathy was actually a kind old grandma with the solutions to all of our problems. I saw endless lies about the record of the party nominee. And endless files of people of color (the saddest to me was the poor looted Puerto Rico and Virgin Islands delegations) and women who I have no idea why they were cheering the corporate state's designee.

I saw the Democratic Party humiliate Bernie Sanders, Keith Ellison, and not allow Nina Turner and Rosario Dawson a place on the stage to introduce Bernie. I wanted Nina to introduce Bernie, she is his most powerful speaker and advocate. Toe the party line or be purged.

I saw the crowds manipulated and phonied up. I saw with my own eyes a DNC goon grab a Justice for Palestine sign out of a Bernie delegate's hand. I heard how the audio volume was varied to make Hillary cheers loud, and wipe away Bernie cheers. I saw how states where Bernie won by a landslide all of a sudden have a majority, and virtual ties which were changed into landslides for the designated party nominee. I saw as they crowded the party's nominee's delegates around the microphone in even the states where Bernie won 80% of the vote and forced every spokesperson to take an oath of loyalty to Clinton.

When the delegates walked out in mass leaving half the convention center empty I saw them refocus the cameras to the front rows where states like Arkansas were located. Later I read the ad Iif it was real) to hire a crowd to fill the hall, but the two minutes I watched of Kaine being acclaimed today, the hall was emptier than last night.

This election, my friends looks like, smells like and is like Soviet elections during Soviet Stalinism. America is in a quicksand of totalitarianism that most Americans can't see, anymore than most Germans could see as they drank their champagne stolen from Vichy France and their hams from Nazi occupied Denmark.

To conclude I want to remind you that it was Democratic mayors (except Bloomberg who is supporting Clinton ) who violently suppressed Occupy. And a Democratic President who oversaw the types of survelliance that landed occupiers in jail.

As a Historian, I love the McCarthyist vibe I am getting. I study Cold War propaganda (specifically 1950's) and I am just waiting for them to start calling out the number of commies in each department of the United States government.

walked out of the convention last night. Dozens?! Apparently since losing their journalistic objectivity, now the NewsHour can't even count. From the video footage of the arena, it was clearly half empty after the walk out. I call that hundreds, maybe a thousand+.

The current working assumption appears to be that our Shroedinger's Cat system is still alive. But what if we all suspect it's not, and the real problem is we just can't bring ourselves to open the box?

...in WI-01 sent three Bernie National Delegates to the convention. We have a meeting/picnic planned next weekend to hear their stories and decide our next steps. I'll post anything really interesting.

In Apr we have non-partisan general (run-offs for all above) + partisan Presidential Preference Primary
In Aug we have partisan primary - Fed + State
Finally in Nov the general election for Fed & State.

In Illinois the Presidential primary is wrapped with the other offices, although there is a beauty contests and separate ballot items for convention delegates, although on the same ballot. Didn't realize that there were states that separated President from senator et al.

I just saw the press conference in solidarity with Nina Turner. I felt, and have felt from the first time Nina spoke that she was my special voice. I played her speeches for my neighbors and workers here in Dominica. Everyone loves her.

I posted everywhere I could that I wanted her to give the nomination speech for Bernie and the VP nominee. Last night I heard she'd been denied the right to speak and it was so unbelievable I only posted it on my FB feed. I wanted to hear from Nina herself.

Well, now I have (a short clip) and I feel as if the attack on her was an attack on me and my family. I not only won't hold my nose for Clinton, I will actively do everything in my tiny bit of literary power to destroy any hope the Democrats may have of putting this totalitarian warmonger and her nasty husband in any position of power.

I can only hope both Clinton and Trump are indicted and jailed. WTF has happened where there is no choice at all except protest from the outside. I do feel sad for many of my good American friends that you have to live through this shit.

Note: I want to be clear again that I am a strictly non-violent old man who catches annoying insects and takes them outside).

It's supremo Madison Avenue manipulation, buy that thing at the checkstand, order than thing on the internet, vote for this person and all your dreams will come true.
Try watching a professional baseball game nowadays with the military and God Bless America (instead of Take me out to the Ballgame). Everything is manufactured to influence humans day in day out, this election was/is no different.
But we knew that. Obama proved it. That's what pisses me off. Obama proved it and yet we did again. That's not a good sign. Maybe in the next 3 months Americans will grow a pair. Maybe not.

That does not mean Communist and it sure as hell doesn't mean Marxist.

But yes, Herr Stalin [I know] was very good at propaganda, isolation, and shunning. We should next expect Bernie to become a nonperson and the Bernie or Bust movement become "What movement? I don't see any movement."

I've refused to watch the nauseating, carefully orchestrated, pandering Neoliberal corporate commercial fuckfest. Have been opting only for TYT and Democracy Now's coverage, absolutely refusing to look at any MSM coverage.

I dig the passion and vigor of your writing, and the historical contexts you wield throughout. Thanks again.
