GOS blows its TOP. Calls Jill Stein "DICTATOR IN WAITING!" on the recommeded list.

This poor hysterical kossacks only evidence for her "DICTATORSHIP IN WATING," was she said that people needed to put pressure on the system to pass her agenda.

Stein was asked another question before exiting: if given so much power, how do you prevent the president from becoming a dictator? What actions of the presidency could go too far? Rather than answer, Stein offered a response that Bernie supporters and those who wanted “real Democracy” would need to put political pressure on the USSC in order to advance their goals. Stein offered this assessment: “Political pressure on the USSC led to gay marriage, abortion rights and more… we must also pressure the courts.” In other words: what we can’t get through executive order, we’ll get through public pressure on the courts.

And with that, Stein exited, answering no questions about how this future would function. As of this morning, July 20, it is unlikely that Jill Stein will make the ballot in any form in Kansas. With the Republican convention happening now, Stein’s early July meeting stands out as the difference in vision of our political parties and vision of the future.

Today, we have two American parties now proposing virtual dictatorships. Whether it is right-leaning in Trump or left-leaning as Stein, there is really only one campaign in America right now that understands what a president actually can and can’t do in the way of change. There is also only one campaign that seems to understand that minority voters are worthy of outreach and discussion

I think this is really pedantic, and it is shameful no kossack pointed this out. They really look like blithering idiots. I wonder what their private polling is showing that got them to twit out like this. At least they aren't ignoring her anymore.

Even I didn't go that far. But then, though I joined early, I think I missed a lot of the early years of 2004- 2006/7. I wasn't working at a place that would allow me to read online during the day. I started reading more in Summer of 2007 and there were a couple of things after a while I felt somewhat unsure about and uncomfortable with. But all in all I felt I needed to be a loyal kossack until I didn't. I regret that I wasted so many emotions into that place. Not all of them were of the happy kind.

The comparison to SPLC was to name a group that had stayed steeled and committed over the years. What I had hoped for from dKos was that kind of commitment. In terms of life's work, Markos Moulitsas isn't worthy of tying the shoes of Morris Dees. In prior years, I had the feeling that dKos would stay committed to its roots and not abandon progressives. Boy was I ever wrong.

I found the site during the run-up to the Iraq war. The only person of any import that seemed to be speaking out was Howard Dean. I found Kos through Dean's website. It was a lifeline - because I thought the whole country went off the deep end. I found Kos and felt like I wasn't the only one seeing it. This was before the accounts. When I got an account, it was like 594 UID. Spent a Hell of a lot of time there. Funny - I don't really miss it now.

I lost my way to their site, but it was from them I found dailykos. And I thought Keith Olberman was the only one who spoke up. And yes the Iraq war and my son being over there during the first six month made it feel like a life saver to read over at dailykos. But then if you really read in between the lines ...

The change really starts after that to where it became rather rapidly a new sitcom: "Bitchin' about the GOPers"

I forget who the poster was over there that posted massive numbers of pics every day from the official White House photog, but that was merely the tip of the iceberg, and as time has gone on, it has only gotten worse. That iceberg is melting, and not from global warming, but from the sheer amount of "Yay Blue!" hot air being generated with each new diary and comment.

enthusiastic about sports too, that's how he got them bamboozled into the Hitler youth. And the girls got bamboozled in the sister organization "BDM" Bund Deutscher Maedel". I would say their mothers were probably supportive of their girls to join, as they themselves were supportive enough of Hitler. Hitler promised them to end unemployment. Here a bit of histgorical context.

Women in Nazi Germany

After the First World War women in Germany were given the vote and a feminist elite, led by Rosa Luxemburg and Clara Zetkin, helped to shape the political post-war scene. Luxemburg, the leader of the Spartacus League, was murdered by the Freikorps in January, 1919, but other women replaced her at the forefront of politics and by 1932 they had 36 members of the Reichstag. Germany also had 100,000 women teachers, 13,000 women musicians and 3,000 women doctors. (1)

The Wall Street Crash caused serious problems for the German economy. The collapse in share prices meant an urgent need to repatriate American capital invested abroad. The number of registered unemployed in Germany rose from 1.6 million in October 1929 to 6.12 million in February 1932. Since these figures did not include the "invisible" unregistered unemployed, it has been estimated that the true figure was 7.6 million. "Thirty-three per cent of the workforce were without jobs. Taking into account dependants, perhaps twenty-three million people were affected by unemployment." (2)

During the early 1930s women often found it easier to find jobs than men. The main reason was that female labour was cheaper. As Richard Grunberger has pointed out: "Skilled women earned 66 per cent of men's wages, unskilled ones 70 per cent, which explains why during the Depression nearly one man in three (29 per cent) was dismissed but only one woman in every ten (11 per cent)... In 1933 women formed 37 per cent of the total employed labour force in Germany. (3)

Unemployment and the Nazi Party
During the election campaign in 1932, Adolf Hitler promised that if he gained power he would take 800,000 women out of employment within four years. Hitler told a delegation who had come to discuss women's rights with him he told them the solution was for every woman to have a husband. The American journalist, William L. Shirer, who was working in Germany at the time, has argued that politicians such as Adolf Hitler "thrive only... when the masses were unemployed, hungry and desperate". (4) In the election in November 1932 the Nazi Party won 230 seats, making it the largest party in the Reichstag. The German National Party, won nearly a million additional votes. (5)

Cate Haste, the author of Nazi Women (2001) has suggested that Hitler was popular with German women. "When Hitler came to power, almost half of those voting for him were women. His promise to restore order and end unemployment held strong appeal. German women had experienced the anarchy of street fighting between rival political gangs on their doorsteps. Unemployment bred uncertainty and discord at the heart of their family lives. Women who worked to keep their families as their husbands lost their jobs, or who saw their standard of life deteriorate, longed for stability and certainty - feelings successfully tapped by Hitler." (6)

Melita Maschmann was a young German woman who supported Hitler because she believed he would bring an end to unemployment: "Part of the misery about which the adults complained daily was unemployment. One could have no conception of what it mean for four, five or even six million people to have no work. Berlin had four million inhabitants…Imagine all the families living in Berlin having scarcely enough dry bread to satisfy their hunger... I believed the National Socialists when they promised to do away with unemployment… I believed them when they said they would reunite the German nation, which had split into more than forty political parties, and overcome the consequences of the dictated peace of Versailles." (7)

So, if the mothers were believers, their daughters were allowed to join the BDM. Oh, and all human beings are cute as babies.... thank God for that.

mimi's picture

why one could compare with regards to propaganda etc. I don't like the comparisons to Hitler or Stalin or Mussolini a lot. I see each fascist or dictator in its context and time frame. And when it comes to context and detail, times do not repeat themselves, they just feel somewhat similar, but aren't. I never liked Godwin laws, because it enhances "polite lying". I like to know the people who compares what and whom to Hitler and the Nazi times, so that I can get an idea if the comparison makes sense and is somewhat justified to make or if it's just for sounding smart, educated and a bit grandstanding as a commentator.

I like to compare general arguments you can hear in the day-to-day conversations among people of various times, if I happen to have archived material of people, who lived through past times and had been witnesses.

Trumps is a loose cannon and completely unpredictable in what he shouts out from one day to the other. I don't think he can afford to do that on the long run. So, to me that's reason enough to drop him like a hot potato. And his remarks, which show of his tribalism aren't of the kind I like either. I don't need Hitler comparisons to understand that.

There are comments in the population against Jews today in the US that are similar to the arguments people made during the Weimar times for examples.
I hear that and listen. But that's about it.

I take Trump serious when he becomes a President. Then the gloves come off and we will see what happens. But that's true for any President who will hold the office.

I think Hitler is very present in this election as a tool for fear. Fear politics is all that both establishment parties have. I really don't want Trump as President but I also don't want more of this stale old 2 party paradigm. I see too many people buying into the fear.

online and in any form of mass communication, because I believe it incites hate crimes. People start to accept that hate as "normal" and the way folks let hang out their worst instincts is something I fear. I fear military power under the control of zealot people, who have a mission, no matter what the mission is.

I don't fear propaganda of the "smooth kind", the one kind, we are drowned in 24h/7. I believe people recognize the propaganda as what it is. It's their own mind that decides what to make out of that propaganda. Millions of people don't buy it, they rarely talk about it. So, I do believe in some sort of capabilities in people to make sound judgments. But of course, that doesn't help them, if they have not much power to get their judgment translated into a representative structure politically.

factor that will bring people to their senses. Oligarchy not so much. It takes a long time til people don't "take it anymore with the Oligarchs". If needed, the kinder and gentler oligarchs feed you something you swallow and you just digest it for a little bit longer. Real climate disaster and destruction of the land from which you live off is something people will not tolerate. Just look at how brave are some very powerless people among the Native Americans fight it. In Africa it's not there yet, but it will come to the point where no corruption will work any longer and people either die or resist successfully.

I'm not carrying any blame for this losing bullshit. I don't have to carry it, and neither do you. I'm on the Left. That woman is far, far to the Right of me.

They took the Democratic Party and built it to the Right. If Clinton had any honor whatsoever, she'd concede the nomination and give it to Sanders. But she won't, and she'll be no friend to the Actual Left in this country, unless it benefits her or her cronies or her family somehow.

So whatever remains of the Party of FDR? They can have it since they're hellbent on destroying it from within. Unless those Supers come to their damned senses and do the right thing--which I doubt will happen, since most of them are probably some level of dishonorable themselves--it's time to get the United States on-board with a fully-functioning, effective, Green Party. They had also found out, by direct experience, that committees very rarely decide anything, so they didn't think that was a workable option either. So they stuck one guy with the responsibility for making yes/no decisions on laws proposed by Congress (House + Senate in agreement), and hoped for the best. Worst case, they thought, he could be voted out in four years.

Anyone can look it up. Jill Stein's comments on vaccinations make absolute sense, are not remotely radical on any level, and mirror a whole lot of other people's POV on it.

Lies like that are dangerous--when they're that absurd, they often backfire in a big way.

They have apparently gone full wack-a-loon over there. It was funny for a minute, but then it all became rather pathetic as I realized that the diarist and most of the commentors actually believed Jill Stein is a dictator in the making.

And the comments. Hoo-boy.

Take note how some things that used to be almost universally rejected by 'progressives' on that site are now embraced, simply because (imo) $$Hillary is embracing those things.

Fracking is now good.
TPP is now good.
SuperPacs are now good.
Agribusiness restraint of free speech is now good.

I mean, basically, if $$Hillary is for it, it can't really be wrong, now can it?

Dan Savage claims that straight white men like me can only afford to vote Stein because we have nothing to fear from a Trump presidency.

Then a pasty white LBGT man asks how Savage can support a woman who has oppressed the community for decades.

I admit that as a straight, white man, who is a recent immigrant, I may not appreciate the risks, but I also see Clintons history of oppressing gays, the poor, blacks, Latino immigrant children and just about any other group that doesn't have access to political power as evidence that the risks are bad either way.

If it *was* a setup, someone didn't account for Trump actually becoming popular.

I have to tell you--even with all the free airtime he got, it still shocks the hell out of me that he was *that* popular. WHY did he have to pick Mike F#^*&$G Pence as his VP? THAT scares me, though not enough to vote for that alleged Democrat.

Ya, even if Trump meets with a CIA goon a formal assassin an unfortunate accident which puts Pence in the WH? Nope. I'm voting FOR someone this time, am voting Green Party. I'd like to think the actual Tea Party faction would still be a minority in Congress, and so we wouldn't end up with something too looney-tunes between now and 2020....

in terms of entertainment a la scheudenfraude. markos has a FP piece up there now begging HRC to pleeze don't shit on the base with a shitty VP pick (such as Vilsak or Kaine). Im still laughing.

kos to HRC: "C'mon... do the right thing!" ohmyjesus

here, Ill save you the click trip:

It’s not just that they are dreadfully dull, uninspiring, and pretty much generic nothings. And Kaine is particularly crappy.

Kaine, by contrast, is setting himself up as a figure willing to do battle with the progressive wing of the party. He has championed the Trans-Pacific Partnership trade deal that both Sanders and Warren oppose, and he is now publicly siding with bank deregulation advocates at the height of Clinton’s veepstakes.

Booker ain’t much better on Wall Street than Kaine, and Brown would cost us a much-needed Senate seat (though he’d otherwise be awesome). Warren would be amazing, while Xavier Becerra or Al Franken work great. Perez would be fine, I guess, though he has precious little electoral experience. There are plenty of options that will help motivate the base, rather than piss it off into silence. Make the right call, Hillary.

Hard to think of anyone in the Dem establishment who knows more about pissing off the base into silence than Markos.

The current working assumption appears to be that our Shroedinger's Cat system is still alive. But what if we all suspect it's not, and the real problem is we just can't bring ourselves to open the box?

Her Heinous. So no Warren, no Bernie. It doesn't matter who she picks, she won't attract us anyway. She needs to concede the nomination to Bernie if she's really afraid of a Trump Presidency.

I don't care if the Queen rides into the convention on a Unicorn and announces that the Dalai Lama is her running mate, I will never, ever cast a vote for her! #NeverHillary

I hope she picks Kaine. That sounds like a great choice to drive away a few more voters. His positions on bank deregulation are just what the people have been clamoring for!

But I think who is VP is about as urgently important as the party platform. Both seem mostly like a way to win voters who otherwise would not have voted for you through misdirection.

I'd be much more comfortable with a Hillary if she'd stop lying. She should choose a pro-business, pro-banking, anti-regulation, pro-women's rights running mate.

A lot of wanderers in the U.S. political desert recognize that all the duopoly has to offer is a choice of mirages. Come, let us trudge towards empty expanse of sand #1, littered with the bleached bones of Deaniacs and Hope and Changers.
