Sanders gets primetime speaking slot at Democratic National Convention

In a move meant to portray party unity, Sanders is scheduled to speak on Monday alongside First Lady Michelle Obama and Astrid Silva, a prominent immigration reform activist. The theme of that night is "United Together."

Sanders' slot on Monday is the latest signal that Democratic convention organizers, working with the Clinton campaign, have put out to fight any perception of a divided party — as well as to bring disappointed Sanders supporters into the fold after a long primary. The announcement of Sanders speech on Monday comes days after the Vermont senator endorsed Clinton at a joint event.

yadda, yadda, yadda (Bill to speak Tues, Obama & Biden to speak Weds)

On Thursday Clinton herself will deliver a speech alongside Chelsea Clinton. The former secretary of state will focus on "her vision for our country — her belief that we are stronger together and that America is at its best when we work together to solve our problems." The title for that night is "Stronger Together."

I get shocked anew every time a read this. I can't imagine that she couldn't imagine how lame her comment would sound to a teacher or a nurse.

Bill and Hillary share culpability for a variety of transgressions. But there is a difference. I suspect Bill winced when he heard that comment and Hillary was as oblivious as her daughter. The measure of empathy Bill Clinton has retained from his years growing up comes through and may be part of the reason Bill has never generated the negative feelings provoked by Hillary. (That he has never found the sodomizing with a knife and murder of someone hilarious might be relevant too.)

Chelsea is the go-to-gal at the Family Foundation. She's been groomed for years there. After her stint at CBS for $600,000 a year for doing not much of anything (no charisma but connected), she joined the Family slush fund. What a waste of an expensive education!

My 'guess' is that FSC is trying to 'keep up with Trump.' Heard

earlier this week that all of his family members (except maybe his 10-11 year old son) will have a speaking slot at the RNC Convention.

There will also be celebrities--athletes, actors (I believe)--with very few actual politicians.

Anyhoo, 'the Grifters' don't want to be outdone. And, in the case of FSC, we know that she's desperate to appeal to millennials.

We watched almost all the CNN Town Halls involving the Presidential candidates--including the one with the Trump Family. Too bad it's not one of his children who are running--they are all incredibly poised.

Ivanka's comportment is incredible for a young woman her age--about 35. She doesn't hesitate one split second when answering questions. Her replies to the questions regarding her young family, motherhood, her career, her marriage, etc., couldn't have been more pitch perfect, IMO.

(Her two brothers also present well, but she's a hard act to follow.)

We will probably watch the nights that they all speak--just out of curiosity. IOW, I want to see if the Town Hall was a fluke, or if they really are as sharp, as I recall.

'The Griters' better be worried.

Edit: To be clear, because I was quite impressed with the articulateness and poise of his grown children, doesn't mean that I'm even remotely endorsing 'the Donald.'

I am only watching Monday night.

I want to see Bernie burn the house down. I also like the First Lady and she is a very good speaker. For the first time in my life I am not interested in either convention. I have been watching them since 1956 when I was little. It was always a big deal in the house I grew up in. They made it so expensive even the Clinton pledged delegates are having bake sales in front of grocery stores around here to raise money to go.

Bernie and FLOTUS

Well those two finally tipped me over the edge in to "all politics is bullshit". How soon we forget about "Raise the bar". Meh. Hope schmope.

But we've also learned something else this year, something that we've all sort of felt at some point in our life, that we're still living in a nation, and in a time when the bar is set, I talk about this all the time, they set the bar. They say look, if you do these things, you can get to this bar, right?

And then you work and you struggle, you do everything that they say, and you think you're getting close to the bar and you're working hard, and you're sacrificing, and then you get to the bar, you're right there, you're reaching out for the bar, you think you have it, and then what happens? They move the bar. They raise it up. They shift it to the left and to the right. It's always just quite out of reach.

And that's a little bit of what Barack has been experiencing. The bar is constantly changing for this man. Raise the money? Not enough. Build an organization? Not enough. Win a whole bunch of states? Not the right states. You got to win certain states. So the bar has been shifting and moving in this race, but the irony is, the sad irony is that that's exactly what's happening to most Americans in this country.

The bar is shifting and moving on people all the time. And folks are struggling like never before, working harder than ever, believing that their hard work will lead to some reward, some payoff. But what they find is that they get there and the bar has changed, things are different, wasn't enough. So you have to work even harder.

I guess Bernie's stump speech will sound much the same in eight years - best words! At least we'll still have him reporting the truth of the demise on the Senate floor. Good luck.

I think we may have just figured out a part of Bernie's strategy

So, Bernie wants to continue to pound his message into the public consciousness, and the MSM has been remarkably deft at ignoring him as much as they could get away with.

Once it appeared that his numbers just were not gonna add up for the Convention so what should he do?

Well, He endorsed Clinton. Something most of us found revolting.

But lets look at it from a strategic perspective.

By endorsing Clinton it puts the Media in a tough position, Hillary absolutely must have his supporters on board to win (good luck with that) so they HAVE to cover him now when he is out touting the anointed one..

But what is he really out there touting?

The same thing he always has, his message, and now they just cannot ignore it because he may drop the occasional "C-Word" (Yeah, as far as I am concerned Clinton as surpassed the old C-word for revulsion factor.) into the speech.

The more people hear his ideas, the more they like them and realize that they are their ideas too.

Bernie never entered this contest thinking he could win, his goal was to force these subjects into the public dialog. A goal he achieved with remarkable success.

Now, instead of being essentially shut out of the conversation after the Convention he has virtually ensured that he gets at least another 4 months to pound his message home to the people, building the momentum for change.

This is in addition to the political credit he earned for the endorsement that he can then attempt to utilize to gain the nomination if a Clinton indictment for Perjury, The Pay to play scandal, etc. comes to pass.

Just my thoughts, but at least to me it sounds like a logical assumption even if it is not correct.

My aunt, whom prior to her diagnosis of cancer, worked at Qauntico teaching criminal profiling has tried for years to convince me to go back to school and apply for a job as an analyst.

She says I have some weird "RainMan" like ability to examine a bunch of random data and come up with plausible scenarios or outcomes that may result. (not to toot my own horn but I have to agree with her that my record on it is pretty good.)

I have been resistant though, while I am still easily young enough to do so they seem to have this issue with Cannabis which is a deal breaker for me, lol!

Plus, I like being self employed. It can be tough (If you want to make money self employed your boss has to be the biggest asshole you ever worked for. ) but a bad day on the water beats a good day in an office in my opinion, lol!

I realized that while I make less money than if I worked for someone else, I also only have one life and money, while necessary, is no longer the be-all end-all for me.

I made lots of money back when I would work 16 hour days sometimes for two weeks straight racking up the overtime and sure, I had way more money, more toys, etc I also had less of a life.

Having someone else dictate a significant portion of what life I have left just fails to appeal to me anymore.

But who knows, maybe I can keep up the accuracy of my prognostications and then when this place explodes JTC can hire me for a staff position, I'd have no problem working for him, lol!

Bernie Sanders CHOSE to run as a Democrat. He knew it would help him, and it DID. He also said, from day one, he would SUPPORT the nominee of the Democratic party.

Therefore, I disagree with your saying "he sold out." Of course, respect your right to say it, but strongly disagree. Bernie Sanders has been solidly PROGRESSIVE, a Democratic Socialist all his life. To me, his endorsement speech was a not unlike Marc Antony's funeral oration of Caesar. "I come to bury my Sanders For President campaign, not to praise it." Then proceeds to do the opposite. In fact, Bernie did not do it nearly as subtly as ol' Marc. The difference is that unlike Brutus, Hillary had to stand there and smile through lips so tightly pursed that they seemed to almost crack.

Won't Watch At All

I'll catch Bernie's speech in replay on YouTube or something. I won't watch anything else at either convention, because I can't stand the smarmy liars and their heinous smugness, their self-assured poses that they know anything without demonstrating proof, and their false promises that they will work for the benefit of the greatest number of people. Watching such bilge so only incites me to reckless acts of destructive violence, and I don't own the TV in my house.

I'll never forget the video of the Clintons walking to the

helicopter to get out of town after the whole world found out about Bill and Monica.

They purposely did this photo op to show Hillary with Bill, and they had the nerve to include young Chelsea in between them.

That was a disgusting thing they did. They should have just walked, the two of them, for the cameras and sent Chelsea on board before them with no cameras.

In fairness, Chelsea does not appear to mind.

I don't doubt that the elder Clintons love their daughter, but they have always used her like a stage prop, to set a mood and image for the audience. When Chelsea was young, she was obviously shy about that role, but she clearly has grown to considerable comfort with it, maybe even relish.

Her appearance with her mom will be no different, to set an impression of FSC as the mother who looks after all the young'uns of America (and dispel for a few moments that other image of her as the cackling cheerleader of "We came, we saw, he died").

I don't think even the Clintons are so bereft of brain cells as to think that Chelsea will lure millennial voters. She's there for all the elderly (who consistently vote) to coo over, the grandparents who like to show photos of their children to everyone who'll not run away. The Clintons have no idea how to reach millennials, and to their credit they don't usually pretend to.

No, they don't pretend to. They just arrogantly assume that when all the millennials "grow up", they'll come around to the cynical Clinton way. They could care less in the meantime, if there's no votes in it for them.

I guess I can't look at it in a way that is credit-worthy. Unless "Oh well, at least they don't flat-out bald-faced lie about everything..." actually qualifies?

Bernie has been in full-on "Lesser Of Two Evils" mode since his endorsement. It wasn't just the endorsement rally, he's been on every morning show and talk show that would have him with this message. I don't expect anything different at the convention, but we'll see. I thank Bernie for his campaign and waking people up. But there is nothing left worth saving in the Dem party. Getting a more progressive platform is a red herring.

Although the site of the Democratic National Convention has not yet been determined, one bit of information has leaked out. The keynote speaker will be Chelsea Clinton’s soon-to-be born child.

It is uncertain at this point if the child is male or female, or what his/her name will be, but the little tyke’s political career will be launched whether they like it or not by the time their second birthday rolls around.

Debbie Wasserman-Schultz, head of the DNC, admitted that having the child, who will just be learning to speak at that time, be the keynote speaker just makes perfect sense.

The baby will just be babbling incoherently to most conservatives but Democrats will understand exactly what the child will be saying.

Early speculation is that the child will be pouting while addressing global cooling, global warming, climate change, or whatever other term the Democrats have decided to use by that time.

RNC chairman, Reince Priebus, admits it’s a pretty shrewd move by the Democrats. “They’ll probably pick up some sympathy votes for the cute factor and, let’s face it, all the other Democrats speaking at the convention will sound just the same.”

Priebus continued, “They all stand up there and whine, cry, while babbling on and on about stuff that doesn’t make any sense to most people anyway, so what’s the difference?”

If the baby is cranky the evening of the speech and throws a fit on national television, it will be the usual fare for the convention.

Television networks have promised to display the baby’s name on screen through the entirety of the speech so any viewers who tune in during the middle of it are not confused by thinking they are watching a speech by Harry Reid.
