Trump May Not Get Republican Nomination
Hey, Berners! We need to put more pressure on Bernie to not endorse Hillary yet!
The republican rules committee doesn't set the rules until next Thursday (7/14) and Friday (7/15) and a LOT of republicans don't like Trump! Here's the question: Given Hillary's untrustworthy numbers and no longer having Trump as an opponent, would superdelegates be free to switch to Bernie? All arguments thus far have been to stop Trump.
There are no rules for the Republican convention. Not yet.
The rules will be determined the Thursday and Friday before the convention by the 112-member (aptly named) Convention Rules Committee. Traditionally, those rules control the convention and govern the next four years for the party.
But through smart organizing, Cruz supporters were able to win a significant number of spots on the rules committee this year. Adding to that possible rebellion are a few John Kasich and Marco Rubio delegates and a few publicly uncommitted RNC officials who are nervous about Trump.
The Stop Trump movement has not limited itself to the fight within the rules committee.
There are two other ways it hopes to derail the presumptive nominee: 1. Get a court to rule that delegates are not bound to any specific candidate, and 2. Convince delegates they are already unbound.
Though a majority of the convention delegates are bound to support Mr. Trump, Mr. Evans’s count shows just about 890 delegates are personally loyal to the New Yorker. Another 680 oppose Mr. Trump. That leaves 900 delegates who are presumed to be “in play,” he said. The stop-Trump forces would have to take nearly two-thirds of them to block his nomination.
Trump got this far by exerting brute force of personality and following the rules in primary and caucus states. But the convention is a party function; its rules are what delegates decide they are. We hope rules committee members, and then all delegates, exert their power to weigh other options and then choose their party's best possible nominee. That is not Donald Trump:
We keep being told that we have to vote for Hillary because "TRUMP!", but, he is not yet the nominee. If he ends up not being the nominee, then that meme goes away.
Please, Bernie, give us this last week of hope and don't endorse Hillary, yet!

We're supposed to believe Trump's campaign is a shambles
We're supposed to believe Trump's campaign is a shambles, but that doesn't explain why Hillary's lead is only 5-6 points in national polls.
"We've done the impossible, and that makes us mighty."
Yeah. "Clinton will beat Trump"
This has been the meme since the beginning: Stop Trump!
When I posted a Bernie diary at TOP a couple days ago, the majority of the comments were purely "Stop Trump". Even when Bernie is asked about endorsing Hillary, he says basically, 'stop trump' because that is the DNC meme. That is all Hillary has.
Without Trump, expecially if it's Kasich then it changes the GE entirely!

I still think Ryan has an eye toward the nom for himself
Back when I was still watching Rachel, she was pointing out the ads he was running in major markets for no good reason which looked a lot like presidential ads.
I think Cruz still thinks he can leap out from behind the bushes to nab the nom for himself - he played his delegate strategy well. Bush went along with running because someone told him he HAD to, but he hated every single minute of it. Normal-ish people actually like Kassich, and he has one or two beliefs which are not entirely anathema to anything decent.
I still think they pull off a non-trump...

Since the Repuke convention precedes the Dem
convention, the timing is perfect to not lock Hillary in until we know who the Repuke candidate is. I don't think TPTB are interested in nominating Bernie, even if Trump isn't the opponent. But they certainly know that Hillary isn't their best shot either. So, what would happen if all the super-delegates voted for someone else? But who? Biden? He hasn't been polled in awhile, but he didn't do well even when he was. And would the super-delegate votes be enough? Any suggestions?
Whatever Bernie does he will have held to his promise
To not let Trump win the Presidency.
Beware the bullshit factories.
I'm sure the delegates would be given a lot of enticements
Monetary and otherwise, to vote against Trump.
Beware the bullshit factories.
More than Trump
I want to see what happens to her poll numbers after that ringing endorsement by Comey. How stupid can Hillbots be?

I hope that was a rhetorical question...
Because the answer is incredibly depressing.
Yeah, it certainly is.

Not trump or Clintons ( I always use the plural)
Main reason don't think it will be Trump, he really doesn't want it. Just wanted to "play" as he has, made a pile of money doing it, and did what ever he wanted to do, say. Don't think he WANTS POTUS, just wanted to show those 16 other wankers, he COULD beat them. Make fun of them.
But POTUS, naw, too much work. After showing the MSM how wrong they were, played them like fools, expect a WTF moment along the lines of " I'm mad as hell & I'm not going to take this any more." Picks up his toys, and goes back to Mara-Lago (sp?), gold embossed rooms in Trump Tower, and plays golf.
Clintons - perjury on the way. Still can't believe I'm cheering Gowdy - and Comey, what a team. Gowdy has goods to prove perjury when Clinton testified before Congress. Would the Democratic super delegates be dumb enough to ignore all that's happened this past week?

If Trump isn't the nominee, Hillary is screwed.
Even against the weakest candidate in history, she could still lose. Replace Trump with anyone more favorable, like say, Kasich, and she's toast.
Couple that with the fact that she's probably going to pick her corporatist buddy, the stale piece of corrupt bread known as Tim Kaine, to be VP and you have a clusterfuck of epic proportions.
Did Bill actually call Trump and encourage him to run?
Just a couple of golfing buddies having a big chuckle together and giving Bill's better half an actual chance for a win, all without having to betray her big bucks donors. Pretty nice ploy, but I doubt the brighter R's are falling for it.
The conventions are going to be very interesting. Popcorn anyone?

Hillary could not defeat Kasich at all.
Hell, I don't think she could defeat Cruz, and he really is crazy.
Life is strong. I'm weak, but Life is strong.
Cruz was the one that scared the bejeezus out of me

What makes you say that?
The current working assumption appears to be that our Shroedinger's Cat system is still alive. But what if we all suspect it's not, and the real problem is we just can't bring ourselves to open the box?
Why, yes she is toast.
And if it's Kasich, the Left is totally screwed.
The good news is, the Democratic Party can then be torn down to the foundation.
Reality aside, looking at the political demographics in play, I'm pretty certain that Hillary cannot beat Trump, either. That also works.
What doesn't work is Ted Cruz and that ilk.
an ugly, ugly
thought just crept into my head. What if the repubs picked cruz? I swore up and down I won't vote for clinton but if there's one creature in DC I despise more than her it's cruz. I plan on voting for Jill here in Ohio but if cruz would be their nominee? Damn, I'd hate to have to eat my words.
Everyone hate Cruz. They'd only nominate him because he was
the last valid opponent Trump had so they'd maybe think he had a chance. But he's hateful, hateful, hateful. He's very smart but his ego trips him up a lot. And even over the television he looks sleazy, oily, and nuts.
There wasn't a whole lot of talent to pick from out of that bunch of snakes. But the one that can pass himself off as a human being (of sorts) is Kasich.

which one's first
Republican convention or Democrat?
