Dallas shooting: One police officer killed and three injured as shots fired at rally

Shots were fired on Thursday night during a Dallas protest over two recent fatal police shootings of black men.

Protesters marching along a street in downtown when the shots erupted and the crowd scattered, seeking cover.

The Dallas police chief says it appears two snipers shot 10 police officers during protests, and three of the officers are dead.

Police Chief David O. Brown said in a statement that three of the officers who were injured are in critical condition Thursday night, AP reports. He says the snipers shot from "elevated positions" during a protest over two recent fatal police shootings.

"Those who make peaceful revolution impossible, make violent revolution inevitable" - JFK.

Not that we're at the point of violent revolution by entire groups of people, but it only takes a few extremists.

Declare open war on people - or act as though you have - and you have no right to be surprised when they shoot back.

Guess we're officially a Failed State now, or will be very, very soon.

And their weapons. And now open carry and concealed carry is the law in many states, but if a black guy has a carry permit, the cops know, and shoot him dead on the spot. This insanity must end, but I have no reason to think it will. We remain at war, but it's not on TV, and it reminds me a lot of 1968, but with social media as the new variable.

At the protests like there were in Ferguson and Baltimore and everywhere else where people have been protesting?
Remember how the cops in Ferguson were aiming weapons from at military truck? Or the picture of more than 10 cops pointing their guns at the lone unarmed black person?
I am not surprised that people have decided that they have had enough of police brutality and their cracking down on peaceful protesters.
And remember how brutally OWS was taken down all across the country at the same time by the cops and DHS?
I'm not sure how I feel about this.
The Baltimore cops brutally arrested Freddie for no reason and bent him like a pretzel for no god damned reason, then took him on a hard ride.
And so far every cop has gotten away with it.
As ec wrote, "those that make....."

This was a mix of police and transit "cops". I could not tell for sure but it looked as though they did not have vests. Budget cuts? I have no information. There was not conflict with between the police/security personnel and the BLM protesters.
While the snipers only targeted police and other uniformed people, they put others at risk of injury. The shooters did no good for the BLM movement.
If you have doubts about how you feel about this, I feel sorry for you. But then my opinion is colored by the fact that I am one of those idealistic pacifists with no use for a firearm.

It doesn't take Freud or Skinner to realize where the proliferation of firearms would lead. It's been open season on citizens for far too long. Now it's degenerating into a civil war, and I can only see it escalating. Next comes martial law with check points and curfew. We're really making America great.

But at the same time, that JFK quote is my new Facebook cover photo if that says anything. And it seems like the inevitable is coming...

A quote from Robert Kennedy comes to mind as well. even if he wasn't talking about the USA at the time.

“A revolution is coming – a revolution which will be peaceful if we are wise enough; compassionate if we care enough; successful if we are fortunate enough – but a revolution which is coming whether we will it or not. We can affect its character; we cannot alter its inevitability.

[Report to the United States Senate on his trip to Latin America and the Alliance for Progress, May 9-10 1966]”

Oligarchs aren't found on the street in Downtown Dallas near El Centro college where black guest lecturers come to reach inner city people.. They're found in board rooms a few blocks and 40 plus floors up, found at the Damn=All Country Club on Beverly Drive in Highland Park etc.,

THOSE are the targets needed.

Fuck JFK and his hypocritical quote. JFK was napalming South Vietnamese families by ’62, and before he died he established a US national security doctrine that transformed Latin American national armies into counter-insurgency death squads tasked with butchering their own people for opposing US interests. Fuck JFK.

i can find no source that asserts american use of napalm in vietnam prior to 1963, and no source indicating that it was used in bombing before 1964 or possibly 1965. once source indicates that it "might" have been used "against civilians" in 1963, to burn down villages using flamethrowers.

I thought the napalm and agent orange started in 1965. Source: my faulty memory. It was well after Dallas that that shit started. I think I remember the chatter about the ramping up as Bobby pushed for a turning down the intensity of the Nam "war". And, it was getting really noisy by the time Bobby was shot.
John wasn't a saint but he sure as hell didn't fire bomb Nam to hell.

Go fuck yourself.

You know nothing about what I know about this, that, or any other thing.

A one-line unsubstantiated remark in the middle of off-the-cuff remarks by Chomsky is not a citation. I spent rather a long amount of time trying to find any explicit citation of the first use in Vietnam of napalm as bombing ordnance rather than flamethrowers for combat and for the burning of villages, and I found nothing. Maybe it's somewhere in one of the miscellaneous VN memoirs; certainly it's recorded somewhere in the military's own archives. The fact that there are thousands and thousands of online resources that discuss the history of napalm, but none of the ones I surveyed has any explicit info about when the first napalm bombings began, is irritating, but that's the fact of it.

Until I see an actual citation -- something that tells me exactly when such bombing began, and/or tells me exactly when it was authorized, I will treat your assertion as what it is: Interesting hearsay, possibly accurate, possibly not.

I didn't see a reference to where he got his information, merely his word this happened. Not saying it didn't, just that I can find no ref to napalm before '63. He probably has access to info the rest of us don't. Or he's misremembering after the fifty-plus years since this happened.
And to not put too fine a point, you're beating the wrong horse. In '60 they started dumping tons of Agent Orange, which being locked into the food chain is still causing problems today.

Your insults and condescension are unpleasant in a rather juvenile way. You also are not remembering the actual history of that war. How old were you in 1978, and would you say you've learned manners or temperance in the intervening years? I don't and won't wish you a great day until you've looked into your mirror and answered that question honestly, and gotten back to those of us you've insulted and denigrated.

precision and authoritativeness than the available information supports. It's what makes him a disconcerting and somewhat dangerous ally.

Regardless, I have little patience for idle knee-jerk ad hominem contrarianism. Whether JFK was the anti-christ or the second coming of jesus has no bearing on the validity of the quote that set you off. The full and sole purpose of your comments in this thread appears to be to scold and condescend to people you hardly know, because you are a real leftist and they are "pretend" leftists, whatever the fuck that's supposed to mean.

In the meantime, I have been able to track down a couple of sources indicating that the VNAF had napalm bombs in 1961 (some sources indicate that the French were using them before the US got involved), and that in late 1962 American "advisers" participated in some kind of combat sorties where napalm bombs were dropped on something.

necessarily has anything to do with what actually happened. As I alluded in previous comment, Chomsky may have had access to info not available to others. He does mingle with the heavy hitters. Who knows what information isn't known simply because not enough is known to ask the right questions. How many people were doing things that they didn't know what they were doing?

The MSM was much better (as in not as bad) in 1968. I attended Blue Mountain Community College that year and immediately connected with returning vets. During the previous two years I was hearing enough to become radicalized, so I went full resister while at BMCC. My point, I remember some stuff about agent orange prior to 1968, but by that time returning vets were showing the effects, and it seemed as though the escalation sharply increased at the time.
I do not trust "standard" sourcing for various reasons, and would be interested in hearing from peers on this and issues of the escalation of the use of napalm. The full on genocidal actions became painfully obvious at about this time.

what really went on for many years down the road. Some participants following secrecy acts, others ashamed of their hand in it so remain quiet. I feel it'll be a slow trickle of information, slips of paper stuffed in books discovered only after the writers are dead decades or centuries. Time for bits of info scattered around the globe to trickle their way to people with the ability and resources to put it together.
We're still putting together the story of the Revolution and Civil War.

They may very well have been exemplary cops who never mistreated the citizenry. My understanding is that the protest was peaceful and the police were peaceful. Or they may have been racist assholes - but even still they did not deserve to be executed. Just like the victims of the police, no one should be executed in the street. But you reap what you sow, and the police forces of America have had plenty of time to make changes and honestly address their systemic problems.

The entire fault of this happening lies with the police forces/leadership in America. You can only murder so many innocent civilians before people start to get fed up. And the police forces COULD have taken the appropriate steps to weed out the loose cannons and unstable individuals. They could have prosecuted crimes even when they were committed by police officers. They instead chose to turn a blind eye to the racism and corruption and support anyone wearing blue, no matter how egregious their crime.

I'm only sorry this won't function as a wake-up call that maybe they need to change their ways, maybe get some training from a civilized country, in Europe perhaps. Instead, they'll just double down on their war on the citizens of the country.

Once again we have innocent victims who are not the ones responsible. This time on the other side. And once again, no appropriate action will be taken to fix the situation. Everyone will just line up on their chosen sides and point fingers of blame at the others. It's depressing all around.

I'm sorry a sad, ill-used black guy got so mad and was so emotionally isolated from his peers from the military, his racial peers, his family, his former acquaintances, that he had no emotional brakes, no support network. I know how that feels, even when it's an impression, not a reality. If it FEELS real, it is the operant reality and the final wall in self-isolation, and that's the start of a form of suicide, whether it's direct self-murder or suicide by social entity.

And this kid's timing was insanely usable by others. So far the stupidest is Elizabeth Warren's being blamed. I'll never suport her in anything again, but she's not to blame for his going off the effing rails.

I grew up mostly in Park Cities, surrounded by Dallas, and my best friend grew up in Mesquite, and we didn't meet until after we were both some time out of high school. I'm 17 years her senior. We might as well have been in distinctly differennt dimensions of reality, for that matter. She lives on the border of Mesquite now.

This crap is understandable to each of us... we're not faking being perplexed like assholes in the press are, however.

We both have a spitload of poor friends, not just middle class, but ground down poor.. and she and I have both BEEN ground down poor. We GET where this guy came from, and in a VERY strange way, race is almost ----- A L M O S T ----- irrelevant.

What is coming, the STORM.... is about 1% versus 99%, not about race. Race might be the spark, but it won't be the core of the flame or the storm or the war.

Going to remain a bit dug in here.
