Did you donate to Pacifica radio stations (KPFK, KPFA, WBAI, WPFW and KPFT) in the past year? If you did, you might be able to save them from bankruptcy

Please help Bernie's favorite radio network Pacifica avert bankruptcy! Vote in their current elections!

Pacifica is the only U.S. listener-sponsored, progressive radio network. Their stations are KPFK/Los Angeles, KPFA/Berkeley, WBAI/New York, WPFW/Washington, D.C. and KPFT/Houston. The Houston station is best known for the KKK twice bombing their transmitter. Amy Goodman of Democracy Now/WBAI/New York is their best known host.

Until he started this run for the Presidency, Bernie was heard weekly on the Pacifica stations about his ideas for a better society on the Thom Hartmann show. Amy Goodman is also a prominent contributer.

If you have donated to a Pacifica station in the past 12 months, you should receive your ballot in mid-late August.
You can help Pacifica by voting in their current elections. The period to donate to become a voter was July 1, 2015 to June 30th, 2016.

Pacifica has been struggling due to some board members making consistently bad decisions (well, bad for the radio stations, but not bad for the board members' own interests). However, there is a movement to elect board members that actually care about the radio station. If you have donated and want to get recommendations on which candidates can best help Pacifica survive, please check out PacificaInExile.org. The election recommendations for each station will be posted shortly. Or you can email kingreilly@roadrunner.com and when the recommendations are ready, they will reach out to you directly.

They are such a vital news channel for Progressives.

Was listening to "Guns & Butter" yesterday after Democracy Now and was riveted by the interview with Dr. William Pepper who tried and won a little known 1999 against the U.S. Government in a unanimous decision that they conspired to assassinate Martin Luther King Jr.

Here's the show if anyone's interested:

Of the many things this election season that have been deeply revelatory the cowardice and compliance of the MSM, including PBS and NPR, have made me turn my back on them forever. Except for occasionally listening to the Leonard Lopate and Krista Tippet shows on WNYC (did On The Media sell their souls to the Neoliberal goon squad too? Not sure. Brook Gladstone has been very good usually), I now have the dial fixed on 95.5 WBAI and am constantly reminded why it's been the obvious, better choice: clear, conscientious, radical voices telling truth to power.

Can't get involved personally now, but am a little aware of the legendary dysfunction.

Seen the film on Bob Fast? Is on Netflix I believe.

political things on Netflix. Hopefully, we can manage to get the necessary votes for WBAI. I'm told KPFK (LA) and WPFW (Washington) are the two were SavePacifica feels like they have the best vote totals and most likely safe from being sold off (based on current support and based historical numbers), with Berkeley and NY being dicier and Houston being in the most danger.

Unfortunately, my dad just told me about this right before the deadline and I thought about telling him to post to liberal groups to see if anyone would be interested in donating so that they could vote, but I didn't because I thought that someone at SavePacifica would have thought of it already. Apparently they had not though, so now I'm just hoping that posting to groups on facebook or websites like C99 might help since the votes needed are a relatively low amount (Just a few hundred people donating $25 a person would have likely been enough to reorganize the whole board to give a 5-4 majority in each regional board).

The phony left in rolling in dough, and the real left is selling cookies door to door to stay afloat. Damn shame

The potentially number of voters is such a small pool that even getting a few could be the difference between them selling a particular radio station off!

with the recommendations. I got mail several times to vote on it, but didn't know who to support or not. Thanks for posting the email address to get the list.

I'm told that the recommendations should be up hopefully next week. The candidate filing cut off was 6/30, so they are doc-ing everyone now.
