The real Social Security story
For those who have actually read the report, not just the Executive Summary, you understand that of the 4 scenarios presented in each SS Trustees report, the low cost scenario indicates that SS is good thru 2090, paying 100% of benefits.
We also understand that in the Intermediate scenario, which is cited in the Executive Summary, full benefits are possible thru 2090 if people who are looking for work get jobs.
Let me break it down. Create 20 million jobs, that pay an average of 36k each, and you will see annually 90 billion in increased FICA revenue, raise the minimum wage to $15 and that also adds FICA revenue. Then if we raise the income cap to 90%, like it was in the 1980’s, that's even more revenue.
So much revenue that not only is SS good thru 2090, but we can increase retirement benefits by $1000 for each Senior, immediately.

But, but, but...
that is what the People want and need....which means it ain't gonna get done.

They cant have
dollar amounts like that wasted on seniors and the disabled. These funds can be used for more important things, there are countries to invade and elections that need fixing and so many under paid CEO'S, you know good things!
Oh, ok...
guess I will just go find a good sturdy bowl so I can partake of my daily gruel at the soup kitchen. I didn't realize that they didn't have everything yet. Thanks for keeping me in line.

This is a topic that really gets my goat
Bernie has been out in front on this issue all his life. He made increasing SS a major plank of his campaign and led the fight in Congress to do so. Yet those who would have been the major beneficiaries, i.e. those over 50, supported the neoliberal who will follow her masters and gut the program if she can. Because..deficits.
Talk about voting against your own self interest.

I would qualify that with, the ones over 50 who support HRC
are the ones who have the wherewithal to survive SS being cut...the ones who were able to have jobs with good retirement plans (before they went bust) and those who were able to buy CDs and other such stuff. They got theirs. Those of us with a distaste for cat food support Sanders.

Even those of us who LIKE cat food support Sanders!
This includes virtually all of the Nation's cats, who are wiser in their generations than most of the stoopid monkey hoomins in the country!

Considering that stoopid monkey hoomins used to
BE cat food, I am not surprised. That by the way, disproves the adage "You are what you eat." However, it is good to hear that Sanders has the cat vote with the exception, of course, of the really fat cats (who are still eating stoopid monkey homnins).

Maybe, at least on the Dem side
but I know Tea Baggers who have nothing at all saved and would still vote to cut their own SS and Medicare.

You know Tea Baggers who are voting for HRC?
Just how far right is she??

The real reasons for Social Security reform
Sorry to rain on the parade
but robots and 3d printers don't pay FICA taxes, and "independent contractors" pay about a third of their taxes (and generally can't pay more)
And who the F*** really thinks wage slavery is a good thing anyway?
On to Biden since 1973
Well, here's the thing though
if we raised the cap on income that is taxable for SS, we would be able to reduce the percentage for each worker too. I know, the oligarchs would never allow that to happen, but if a logical and mathematical approach was taken, it really could be a somewhat fair system. It could even be set up to be a Progressive, gasp, system where the wealthy pay a higher percentage.

Been hearing that story for years
everytime a work multiplier is introduced.
If we're going to become a spacefaring race, we're going to build spaceships half a mile long, space stations that house tens of thousands, no, 100's of thousands of people...
We'll be doing with work multiplying robots. All work multipliers do is enable us to build bigger stuff. As Dean Bakers says, no the robots are not going to take your jobs.

The wealthy don't get much in wages
They tend to be paid with capital gains and the like, which don't seem to be subject to SS taxes.
