A Maze of Myths

Open Thread Image.jpg

The first myth to dispel is the notion that America is the shining city on the hill. Sadly the US is anything but...we are war profiteers spreading death and destruction around the world, that is the US business model. Another of the many myths is the idea Putin is the antichrist when in fact He is an Orthodox Christian in a secular nation with many faiths. The last myth I want to address is the concept that there are "chosen people" more important to "God" than any other. That belief provides for smug superiority and empowers them to mass murder the "unwanted". All of these myths (and many others) lead to the many wars and conflicts around the world.

Album of the week 8-30-25

Afternoon folks!

There's some interesting stuff here this week. Starting off, there's a 90's album from Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown followed by an album from Chicago blues guitarist Jimmy Rogers with Johnnie Johnson handling the keyboard duties. After that, we move on to blues rock with Little Feat and a compilation of studio artifacts and demos that cover their career from when Lowell George first left the Frank Zappa band to more recent years - it might mean more to a Little Feat fan than the general public, but it's still interesting stuff. After that we've got an album from a Canadian artist, Colin Linden, that never got his due in the U.S. market. It's a really pleasant album worth a listen. We finish up with an album from former Monkee, Mike Nesmith in his folkie/country period.

Enjoy the tunes and have a great weekend!

Saturday Open Thread 8/30/25: Odds and Ends

Good morning, good people!

Well, it is pretty clear that I and JtC are experiencing life altering events. We think of it as a temporary setback. We will grow older, and crankier, and way more likely to stand our ground against TPTB. And effing cancer.

I am occasionally distracting myself from, ya know, hubby health issues, and decided to clip out invasive vines from two crepe myrtle trees, since the guy I offered $20 to do it had just received internet for 30 days, wanted to play games. I did it, saved money, got exercise, and got some drive by horn honks and thumbs up for being so bad ass. Yeah, I am just all that! LOL!

I appreciate all the good will JtC has received.

So, my client divorcing her bad, bad, cheating husband makes her living posting stuff on Only Fans.

Her divorce settlement is agreed, so I do not have to go to court with her wearing her video outfits.

What my parents danced to:

The video, below, will get your attention moving in the right direction. It will bring you up to speed on the profound collapse of respect for the US, internationally. The US Neocon regime has become a psychopathic threat to the planet, itself. The global facts — as they stand at this very moment — are the reality you should be aware, as humanity continues its rapid and hopeful journey toward a better future for all humankind.

Friday Night Photos Water Wise Edition

Happy Friday everyone. Welcome to Friday Night Photos your once a week escape from the day to day insanity of the world we live in. Post any photos, memes, music or whatever else you find of interest that helps tune out the madness.

I filled up the tank in my car at the beginning of the week. The price had been holding steady at $4.19 for the last few weeks but jumped to $4.39 overnight. I recently read that due to the lack of oil refineries the prices are expected to top $5 or more in the near future. Can't say I'm looking forward to that. Gas isn't the only thing getting expensive. On Wednesday I went to lunch with 3 friends. $178 + $40 tip. A little pricey, but the food was excellent.

Before meeting with my friends on Wednesday I went to the Water Conservation Garden in El Cajon. Here's a link to their website that explains what they do way better than I can.

Open Thread - 08-29-25 - We Need to Talk

I hesitate to disclose this but I think you all should know.

I have stage 3 colorectal cancer. I was diagnosed three weeks ago. I start chemo and radiation therapy next week and it's expected to last at least 4 months.

I am in positive spirits. I'm going to one of the best hospital systems in the country and have a great team of doctors working with me.

I've encountered many hurdles in my life and beat them all, and I'll do that with this one as well. I can be one tough SOB.

I don't know right at the moment what this means for c99, but I'll do my best under the circumstances. This couldn't have happened at a worse time.
