Two days ago her body was found along a road in Canton, Mississippi (Madison County). Coroner Alex Breeland did not deny that she had been shot to death. The incident has been ruled a homicide.
First ever application of federal hate crime law re: trans
Submitted by Robyn on Wed, 12/21/2016 - 2:51pmJosh Vallum, a highly placed member of the Latin Kings street gang, pleaded guilty yesterday in the first ever federal hate crime charge filed against the killer of a transgender person.
Vallum, 29, admitted he stabbed and beat to death Mercedes Williamson, 17, because she was transgender. Until now, Vallum had consistently denied killing her because of gender identity.

Dee Whigham was a 25-year-old RN from Shubata, MS. Whigham worked at Forrest General Hospital in Hattiesburg.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of Dee Whigham as they try to make sense of this terrible tragedy. She will be remembered at Forrest Health as an excellent nurse who was well-loved by her patients. I know Dee will be missed by her co-workers, supervisors, and the Forrest Health family.
