Pinetop Perkins

Album of the Week 4-25-26

Afternoon folks!

It's a triple scoop of blues this week, starting off with an album from Chicago blues piano player Pinetop Perkins, followed by a real toe-tapper of an album from John Lee Hooker and then a compilation album of lesser known but quite talented artists from a California record label. Then it's on to some blues rock from a group composed of members from The Pretty Things, The Yardbirds and Canned Heat along with Chicago harmonica and guitar player Studebaker John. Finishing off the week is an album of prog rock from Gentle Giant.

Enjoy the tunes and have a great weekend!

Album of the Week 3-21-26

Afternoon folks!

More great stuff this week! Starting off we've got a live album from a great Chicago blues guitarist, Eddie Taylor, followed by an album from a great Delta blues guitarist, Big Jack Johnson backed by harmonica player Kim Wilson (best known for his work with the Fabulous Thunderbirds) and Pinetop Perkins. After that there's an album of raucous, upbeat blues from Sandra Hall and some modern Zydeco from Buckwheat Zydeco. Then it's on to a live concert from The Band back in 1971 and we finish up with a 60's psychedelic album from a relatively obscure group called Fever Tree.

Enjoy the tunes and have a great weekend!

Album of the week 9-27-25

Afternoon folks!

Another week, more stuff for your ear buds to sample. Starting off, we've got Big Daddy Kinsey's tribute album to Muddy Waters, followed by an album by Ronnie Earl with significant parts of Muddy Waters' band including the great Pinetop Perkins who really shines on this. After that we've got an album from Alvin Youngblood Hart that sadly didn't get the attention that his breakthrough album did. Then we've got Taj Mahal and Ry Cooder in their younger days with an album retrieved from the vault and resurrected. Finally, there's a later album from Levon Helm full of great stuff.

Enjoy the tunes and have a great weekend!

This week we have beaucoup de blues! Starting out we've got an old Junior Wells album followed by a compilation of Chicago blues from Lonnie Brooks, Pinetop Perkins and the Sons of the Blues (S.O.B. Band). After that we have some soul-blues from Johnnie Taylor in his Stax period followed by New Orleans artist Johnny Adams, backed by some fabulous horn arrangements and Wayne Bennett on guitar on most tracks. Following that it's on to some blues-rock with ZZ Top. Moving on to our diversity albums for the week, there's a compilation of british singles from the Immediate label, then get ready to yodel your blues away with country icon Jimmie Rodgers. We finish up with a radio program that features Mance Lipscomb, sponsored by the Social Security Administration, recorded during the great folk music scare of the 60's.

Enjoy the tunes and have a great weekend!
