Gram Parsons

Album of the Week 4-12-25

Afternoon folks!

This week there's some great stuff, starting with Chicago blues guitarist Magic Slim recorded live, followed by some great late 40's through early 50's r&b recordings from piano player Jimmy McCracklin and the Blues Blasters. Following that there are albums from harmonica guy Mark Hummel and a really excellent, not to be missed Mike Bloomfield album. Shifting gears a bit, we've got a mid-60's album from Doc & Merle Watson and in that country-folk vein with a little added electricity is a live album from Gram Parsons and the Fallen Angels (featuring Emmylou Harris). Finishing up, get ready to get spaced-out with Stomu Yamashta, Steve Winwood and Micheal Shrieve.

Enjoy the tunes and have a great weekend!

Album of the Week - 12-10-22

Afternoon folks!

Well, here we go again. New Orleans piano legend Professor Longhair starts us off with a live album, Percy Sledge follows up with a great soul album and then it's back to the piano again with Jay McShann, a staple of the Kansas City blues. There's a Fleetwood Mac compilation from back when they were a blues band and an album by another British group, Brian Auger's Oblivion Express and sticking with the British thing, there's a great Richard Thompson album. After that, there's a classic album by Gram Parsons and some Commander Cody finishes things up.

Enjoy!

Album of the Week - 11-26-22

Afternoon folks!

This week (surprise) there's more great stuff to listen to. There's a live Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown album, a collection of Leroy Carr recordings and a Neville Brothers live album. I found a long-lost album with Charlie Musselwhite, Harvey Mandel and Barry Goldberg lurking in my basement, cleaned it up and it sounds pretty decent now, perhaps a little of its period, but cool nonetheless. There's a collection of Gram Parsons and Flying Burrito Brothers recordings and an EP of Gram Parsons and the Fallen Angels a Rosanne Cash album and another moldy oldie album from the basement by the Five Man Electrical Band - I think it's their debut album. Finally, there's a part of a Dr. Feelgood live album that I will upload the remaining tunes from on Sunday sometime.

Enjoy the splendiferous bounty of my basement! Smile

Album of the Week - 11-5-22

Afternoon folks!

This week we've got blues with Champion Jack Dupree (joined on the first and last tracks by John Mayall & Eric Clapton), Jimmy Witherspoon with Jay McShann and Johnny Adams. There's some rock and blues rock with Dave Edmunds and Brian Setzer and this weeks diversity of styles is covered by Gram Parsons and Lindisfarne.

Enjoy!
