Science Escape 8 -- Hmmmm . . . Where to Go? Where to Go? (Part 4)
Submitted by apenultimate on Sat, 09/09/2017 - 8:25pmOkay, I lied. I will not wrap up our view to our stellar neighbors in this essay. Because this time we have something special.
So, let’s get Sirius!

Submitted by apenultimate on Thu, 08/31/2017 - 5:31pmAs you may recall, we were in the process of taking our 20% speed-of-light spacecraft, perhaps based on the “Breakthrough Starshot” program, outward into nearby space to explore the star systems around us! It’s always a good thing to know your neighbors, and in the case of star systems, what potential for resources and chance for habitable planets they provide.

Submitted by apenultimate on Wed, 08/16/2017 - 9:43amImagine yourself a young man--a helping hand on a farm--frustrated with the day-in, day-out work. Farm work is hard. You really don’t have the build for it--your friends always call you ‘skinny’. You do have a knack for fixing the farm machinery, though, and your step-parents, who own the farm, find that a very useful thing.

Submitted by apenultimate on Tue, 08/15/2017 - 11:24amOkay, so the universe is so huge there must be some intelligent life out there, Kepler is finding lots of planets relatively nearby, and Voyager 1 has found some things about interstellar space to be careful about . . .
But if we want to send probes (or even humans!!!) to nearby stars--where do we aim our spacecraft?!? Is that type of interstellar travel even remotely possible?!?

During the troubling times of my life, I’ve always found a certain refuge in science and nature. Knowing that whatever idiotic pathway humans invent to tumble down and likely destroy the world, nature will always have the last laugh. I find some comfort in that. So, without further ado, here’s some science to cogitate on!

My Back Pages - Why President Obama's drone assassination program must be made accountable
Submitted by joe shikspack on Mon, 07/17/2017 - 6:41pmHowdy folks! This is an article that I wrote back in 2012 when I was posting at another website. It came to mind last Friday when we were having a discussion in The Evening Blues of an article about certain delusional congressmen who would like to add an additional branch to the military services - the Space Corps. Space is currently the purview of the Air Force.
As you will see in the article that I am posting here in deference to those who would prefer not to give Kos' House of Hillarity a click, space has been on the minds of those infected with military madness for quite a while, as they intend it to be the launch pad for planetary full spectrum dominance.
