Jimmy McCracklin

Album of the Week 12-20-25

Afternoon folks!

There's some awesome blues music here this week. Starting off is Big Mama Thornton with the Muddy Waters Blues Band in 1966, a really great album, followed by Junior Wells a few years later accompanied by Buddy Guy, Otis Spann and a bunch of other Chicago blues luminaries. After that is an EP that I picked up years ago from a cutout bin of some of Jimmy McCracklin's early hits on Chess records. Following that is James Harman, a fine harmonica player and we finish up with some bluegrass with Peter Rowan - great stuff!

Enjoy the tunes and have a great weekend!

Album of the Week 4-12-25

Afternoon folks!

This week there's some great stuff, starting with Chicago blues guitarist Magic Slim recorded live, followed by some great late 40's through early 50's r&b recordings from piano player Jimmy McCracklin and the Blues Blasters. Following that there are albums from harmonica guy Mark Hummel and a really excellent, not to be missed Mike Bloomfield album. Shifting gears a bit, we've got a mid-60's album from Doc & Merle Watson and in that country-folk vein with a little added electricity is a live album from Gram Parsons and the Fallen Angels (featuring Emmylou Harris). Finishing up, get ready to get spaced-out with Stomu Yamashta, Steve Winwood and Micheal Shrieve.

Enjoy the tunes and have a great weekend!

Album of the Week 4-20-24

Afternoon folks!

There's another dollop of great stuff and you get to decide which flavor you like best. There's some Albert King and some Jimmy McCracklin in the blues category. After that there's albums from African band Osibisa, Van Morrison, Captain Beefheart and the Magic Band, a live Rory Gallagher album and for some diversity, an album from the Red Clay Ramblers.

Enjoy and have a great weekend!

Album of the Week - 4-8-23

Afternoon folks!

Beaucoup de blues this week! Starting off, there's a crazy german album of Muddy Waters Band tunes followed by a mid-60's Jimmy McCracklin album. After that is a comp of early recordings from Junior Parker, James Cotton and Pat Hare (including the Parker tune that Elvis covered). After that there's some rock from A Group Called Smith, The Flamin' Groovies, The Tubes and a 70's band with Peter Rowan in it, Seatrain - the album has their one biggish 70's hit on it, 13 Questions. Some of you guys might remember that one.

Enjoy and have a great weekend!
