I recently read an interesting article by the conservative J D Vance. He made a stir a couple years ago with a semi autobiographical book on growing up in a factory town as the progeny of the American south. The book didn't impress me so much as his characters are plenty familiar to most people blue collar in America. But I did recognise the name and read the article.

I'm a politics junkie and a scifi junkie. So, when two books, Infomocracy (book 1) and Null States (book 2), that were touted as merging those two genres came out, I bought the books. But, after reading them, I was repulsed by their world government, libertarian, Identity Politics take on the near future.

The thermite of globalization has been cutting the structural steel of First World democracies since the 1970s (see the quote at end). The economic crash of 2008 was a blow an airliner impact that rattled all nations, but did not quite knock them down - except for the PIIGS victims of bankster fraud. However, 2008 began the trash fires of racism and anti-immigrant agitation.
