A brief orientation in time and space:
A bequest from Lillian Annette Rowe of Trenton, NJ was used in 1974 to purchase 782 acres of land included 2.5 miles of river channel, wet meadows, and some agricultural fields.
In graduate school I had a friend (Genius Dan) that engineered a rather crude communications solution for a person (Steven Hawking) paralyzed from the neck down, and could not speak. While Steven Hawking was indeed not Steven Hawking he was in fact a Genius Programer.
Its name derives from the Otoe word (That I cannot pronounce well.) Nebrathka ("Flat Water") which the french trappers translated to Platte, and the rest of us transliterated into Nebraska:
The Platte River flows, a mile wide and an inch deep (not much of an exaggeration), through the state of Nebraska.
