Open Thread - Friday, October 21, 2016
Submitted by NCTim on Fri, 10/21/2016 - 3:20am

The number 21 reminds me of my childhood hero, Roberto Clemente. He had a human quality missing from so many of today's pop culture icons. BTW, politics is pop culture. Because it sure as hell is not about the common good.
You know what I could use?
So funk it, no talk about current events, just inspiration.
Tell it.
The thread is OPEN. Have a great funkin' weekend!

Can you tell it has been one of those weeks?

Thanks for the morning gathering spot. We are full of fall and rain. I like fall - until I remember winter. Wishing you and sweetie a good day

After almost 2 months of no rain...
we got less than a tenth of an inch. Not even a dust settler. Looks like another week of dry weather coming up, so the SE drought continues. I think we are about 20 inches behind for the year. Extreme drought... how dry I am...
Hope you all have a good day!

Good morning, Tim~~~
hope this day finds you and sweetie the best you can be. I'm just grateful it's Friday and your Open Thread is always a most welcome reminder of that fact! I'm ready for the weekend.
Roberto Clemente - geez I love baseball!
Have a beautiful day!

Roberto Clemente
When I was a child, our family vacation every year was to visit my grandparents in western Pa. where both my parents grew up. Every evening after dinner, we all would sit on my grandparents' front porch and listen to the Pittsburgh Pirates game on the radio. Our whole family's favorite player was Roberto Clemente, but my grandmother was especially fond of him. He was more than just a great baseball player. He was a man of grace and great character. It is hard to believe that over forty years after his tragic death, I regularly meet people who say that Roberto Clemente was their favorite baseball player.
Any music from a favorite of mine, Derek Trucks, is always a good thing too. Thank you, Tim, for combining Roberto Clemente and Derek Trucks in one wonderful Open Thread. All my best to you and your sweetie.

Someone should really write this up - quite compelling

Good morning, Tim & thanks for the OT. Didn't Clemente give
himself a concussion running into the outfield wall, or was that somebody else?

Greetings, Tim! Thinking of you
and Sweetie and your children. Also, I'm glad to hear that Medicare hospice puts pain management central to the mission, as you mentioned recently.
I do recall the conversation about pain management that we had at EB, at the onset of Sweetie's diagnosis. From time to time, I still hear (on C-Span's call-in segments) or read about folks with chronic (non-terminal) conditions, not being able to obtain sufficient pain relief due to the federal and state opioid medication crackdown. (Often, this relates to conditions such as chronic back pain, etc.) So, I'm very relieved to hear that our government is not so heartless that it would expect, or impose on Folks to suffer needlessly during their final days.
Take care.

Good afternoon, NCTim, hadn't time this morning to say hallo,
all I wanted to say I wish you and your family that "those one of a week" weeks will come to an end.
I had the same kind of "one of a week" and can't wait, til I get one of those other weeks back.
Hang in there. Have nothing else to say right today. May be next Friday. Stay tuned.
