The PP shooter, Robert Lewis Dear, is not transgender, but this won't stop right-wingers from using the claim, or anything else they can grab on to in order to demonize transgender people as threats to public safety.
Marine Lance Cpl. Joseph Scott Pemberton has been found guilty of choking and then drowning transgender woman Jennifer Laude in Olangapo City, The Philippines.

But the judge in the case said that Laude’s death was not murder because there was no treachery, superior force and cruelty — elements needed to prove murder under Philippine law. Pemberton was convicted of homicide, sentenced to six to 12 years in prison and ordered to pay about $98,000 in damages to Laude’s family, court clerk Gerry Gruspe told the Associated Press.
Pemberton's attorney says they will appeal. Harry Roque, attorney for the Laude family called the verdict and sentence a "bittersweet victory" and said the penalty was "very light given the heinousness of the crime."
Two transgender women have taken their own lives after being been sentenced to serve time in male prisons. Twenty-one year old Vicky Thompson hanged herself in her prison cell in Armley prison in Leeds while on suicide watch. Criminal proceedings against Thompson were then /dismissed. Now Joanne Latham, 38, of Nottingham took her own life Friday in max detention Milton Keynes prison.
Tara Hudson, the transgender woman who was sentenced to serve time in a male prison, but later transferred to the women's prison. HMP Eastwood Park, is due to be released tomorrow after serving 40 days of an 8-week sentence.
In the US ICE officials have abandoned plans to relocate transgender immigration detainees to a women's facility in Adelanto, California.
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement is no longer pursuing Adelanto as a location to house transgender women on a long-term basis.

In Jackson Heights, Queens, NY, transgender woman Kathy Sal, 35, was followed home late at night Sunday by a man who then entered into an argument with her before beating her viciously in what is described as a "curb stomp." Police are looking for the 30-year-old man seen running off after the attack. Sal is in critical condition at Elmhurst Hospital, on a respirator with bleeding in the brain.
In Boston, the Massachusetts State Legislature has entered winter recess without acting on the bill to protect transgender people from discrimination in public accommodations.
