The Truth, the Whole Truth, and Nothing But the Truth
As the government of brainwashed, drugged out, iphone addicted and thoroughly conditioned Americans rampages throughout the planet trying to spread democracy and keep everyone safe rule the world by murder, mayhem, and destruction, many wonder how the criminal mafia ruling class can get away with it's increasingly brazen crimes.
A big part of the "problem" is the ignorance of Americans to the real truth about their country, the wars, the government (it's not democracy), the flag, etc. Pretty much every important aspect of this country's history is whitewashed, obfuscated, ignored, altered, left out, and flat out lied about.
The result is a nation of citizens that allows it's government, and those controlling it (because we sure as hell don't) to not only run roughshod as the planet's bully but to unrelentingly govern in favor of the ruling class to the increasing detriment of the rest of us. The belief in the illusions created to justify and support illegal wars, imperialism, massive wealth inequality, oligarchy and plutocracy starts early in life because of the information we're fed.
I was discussing this issue with a young couple who are home schooling their children, more or less forced to because their daughter has Type II diabetes and requires insulin checks and shots every couple hours. I went on one of my typical Big Al rants on what we need to do to challenge the ruling class and institute real democracy, equality, fairness and justice in this country, and how we can stop the wars and destruction that seems to be heading for an all out nuclear holocaust.
They're typical Americans, not knowing shit about the real history. Smedley Butler, no. Gulf of Tonkin, no. The truth about Pearl Harbor, 9/11, the Constitution, World War I and II, the Native American genocide, the Iraq war, Syria war, Libya war, the Rwanda genocide, no. The estimated 20-50 million people killed by the United States since WWII, no. Hell no. They know what they were taught in grade, middle and high school and what they've weaned from the propaganda spewed daily from the oligarchy's corporate media.
It's no wonder is it?
But they became excited about what I was saying. They asked if it would be possible for someone like me to provide the real history to them so they could teach their children the truth. We discussed how history books are written, issued and disseminated throughout the U.S. school system, who really controls the content and what is pounded into our heads. They wondered if it was possible to provide "real" history books to them and others who are home schooling to assist them in raising their children as knowledgeable and enlightened humans.
Alternative history books. Good idea.
I had an idea like that years ago, a play off the old Chick comics that Jesus Freaks used to hand out back in the sixties. Back in the day at times, depending on where you lived, it was hard to go to a grocery store or restaurant without encountering a long haired, flower wearing hippie who wanted to hand you a little mini comic book and turn you on to Jesus.
My idea was to create our own mini comic books to hand out at malls, supermarkets, libraries, anywhere there passed unsuspecting lemmings ready to help us change the world. Tell them who Smedley Butler was and about the book he wrote, "War is a Racket". Tell them about the Kellogg-Briand Pact and educate them about he U.N Charter against illegal wars. Tell them about the Gulf of Tonkin incident and the criminality of the Vietnam war that has never been prosecuted for justice. Tell them the truth about the current U.S. wars in Syria, Libya, Afghanistan, Yemen, Somalia, and our governments actions in places like Ukraine and Venezuela.
Try to reverse the brainwashed cult and turn them into soldiers for the Revolution. Knowledge is key.
Anything we try to do is going to take massive organization, participation and money. A revolution in that respect is no different than trying to start a new third party, or trying to build up a current third party. It takes elbow grease, funding, perseverance, planning, and organization. Nothing will come easy, it never has.
Alternative history books and mini comic books are just two of many examples the revolution's army can use to build momentum toward taking down the oligarchy/plutocracy that rules over We the People.

Take heed of Socrates, Big Al
Should you mistakenly attempt to tell the truth about our nation's past, you would be given the modern version of hemlock (perhaps like Sean Lucas's fondness for baclofen and fentanyl). You would find yourself waking up dead one morning with a neat GBCW note pinned to your chest: "Sorry, I thought it was the right thing to do. Sorry for disturbing your slumbers."

Have them read
Have them read Howard Zinn's A People's History of The United States and Smedley Butler's book War is a Racket
Other than that I have no idea how to get people to wake up from our national nightmare. The brainwashing we get in school of the fictions of our history. I've tried telling people the truth about those events and they say that I'm a conspiracy theorist. It's obvious to we here that we have been spoon fed stories about how our country is the Shining Beacon on the Hill, but others still believe that. We've spoken out about the military worship that most people are caught up with, but maybe your idea of creating books might be a place to start.
All I know is that this country is on a very dangerous path and we need to do something soon before it gets much worse. Isn't this how Hitler got his start?
Scientists are concerned that conspiracy theories may die out if they keep coming true at the current alarming rate.
sd, seriously, if as it looks like they pass this
Did you read those two WSWS articles. Very good descriptions of basis details and implications. What they're doing is, I can't even think of a good word.
Heinously immoral
The tax bill is 500 pages and democrats had 1 hour to read it. Republicans were writing things in the margins. As the article states, it is an undemocratic way to pass it. Republicans would go into another room and get told what to put in it.
If this went through regular channels, anyone think that enough democrats wouldn't vote for it anyway?
Heh... Great article.
The US Senate tax bill: The financial oligarchy on the rampage
We already knew that this is a bipartisan bill, we're just being given another theater show. I've said this before. This has been in the works since the coup on FDR failed. The PTB then decided to come at this from another direction. Appoint presidents and congress members who would keep the ball rolling.

Hi Al,
I think your history in "mini comic books" idea is great.
These days, the kids would probably call them "zines" though.
They are kind of a happening thing to do.
Some I've seen are pretty elaborate and folded works of art.
Agree. We just need
a comic book artist (or two), and text writer (or three). Use a 8" x 10.5" comic book template (found on the tubes somewhere)... Send the final edition to all of us via email (or post online as a pdf), and we volunteer participants can take our printed copies to a real commercial printer to print a batch of 100 comic books. bing! done. Distribute the 100 issues around town. Rinse, repeat every three weeks. Mark them at 50¢ each, sell to resellers (Stop-N-Robs, barber shops) at 20¢ each. The 50¢ mark on the cover simply to show retail value, the idea to hand out most for Free. Info on back cover on how to subscribe for half price. Rinse, repeat.

unfortunately, we also need to agree on the truth.
and i'm never going to agree with B.A. on a big chunk of that -- certainly not the "truth" about 9/11, probably not the "truth" about Pearl Harbor (though maybe, don't know for certain what he means by that), etc.
The earth is a multibillion-year-old sphere.
The Nazis killed millions of Jews.
On 9/11/01 a Boeing 757 (AA77) flew into the Pentagon.
AGCC is happening.
If you cannot accept these facts, I cannot fake an interest in any of your opinions.
Well, we don't really need 9/11 and Pearl Harbor
But there are plenty of FACTS that cannot be disputed we could spread, such as about the Gulf of Tonkin incident, and such as the Kellogg-Briand Pact and Smedley Butler's book.
The so called CT's could be avoided, particularly at first so as to not create any undue criticism of the effort.
But in the end, it ain't gonna happen anyway, you know it and I know it. I was just throwing out a suggestion.
fair enough.

Well, thing is,
it could. Like everything else it takes time, money and commitment.
Something Libs aren't big on.
Is why RW chumps like James O'Keefe kick our ass.
I'm old, tired and not getting any younger. Many of us here did the '60s.
The last thing I want to do is play activist. Activism is for the young.
The problem is the young are pretty much clueless at this. They think this
RW bull$h!t is normal. So, once again, it's up to us.
Maybe leave the comic book stuff to the kids, but there has to be something
us geezers can do. I like the letter /signatures rally 'cuz it activates many
towns along the way. One or two hours downtown once or twice a week. Card table, chair, tablet... what's not to love?! okay, the weather. there's always the damn weather...

A lot of his stuff is still highly relevant today.
Perhaps he or people he mentored can offer some insights and advice.
@lotlizard
Thanks for the links, but when I went to the second link, (on this page,) I also immediately noticed a 2nd page appearing to my left of it (also, new pages called up otherwise have invariably appeared on my right of the page with the linked for ever, and I pressed no links) for some sort of games site or something. So I thought I'd mention, in case that link is virused.
Some of us may have more susceptible systems than others, in my case as I'm already having computer problems, along with a youtube spfreload 10 issue which keeps sneaking on videos I'm playing, during interruptions which I suspect it may be creating, although the connection here does suck and cut out a lot. But that new page appearing is something I've never encountered before.

I run with the NoScript plugin that blocks JavaScript
I notice that while I have whitelisted lambiek.net (the comics encyclopedia itself), the plugin is blocking code from an advertising site called addthis.com — perhaps that is causing the pop-ups?
Also blocked: JavaScript coming from facebook.net.
And I have the option to “Block popup windows” turned on in Firefox’s browser preferences.
Any or all these, or something else entirely, could be reasons you’re seeing this annoying obtrusive advertising behavior and I’m not.
@lotlizard
Thanks! That could certainly be it.
I actually do have pop-ups blocked on FF and as the rest of my stuff was saved in the last FF update, I assumed that would have been too; I should check. But this was a whole new page, not something appearing this or on any of several pages surrounding this one. Never had that happen before, but there's been a lot of weird stuff happening.
Haven't tried no-script, (and down-loading anything (updates) hasn't been working well or at all, lol,) though my brother's supposed to be out this weekend to have a look at existing weirdness (not sure how much is due to the lousy connection here) and probably do a re-install or otherwise take my computer with him, which I devoutly hope will not be necessary, lol. Especially as he's busy, lives out of town, and I don't see him very often. But maybe I'll try that FB-snoop-blocking no-script plug-in once this sucker's been sorted out and is better-behaved.

Smedley Butler etc.
Gosh yes, everybody; the suckers stupidly slobber over their toy telephones while the people who really run things force the twits to do more for less, and the dopey victims think all that is normal. I think my academic colleagues are probably sincere, but they are surely easily led by the people who really run things. That might be why children in K-12 grades are so complacent and live with their minds fixated on their toy telephones. Instruction at any level doesn't seem to give students any real insight into very legitimate skepticism about the political extreme that ronaldreagan initiated in this country. That repulsive thing is treated as if it had been a real statesman and real president with ideas and policies. As a result its goofy, and warped psychiatric abnormalities are now mainstream. In addition, historians have absolutely ignored the Congressional investigation and conclusion that major businessmen wanted Smedley Butler to lead a coup. Their reason seems to have been their primitive and eternal fear that they might be forced to pay the employees. An ideal example of this instructional desert is the story about one lone nut killed JFK, yet another one lone nut killed Lee H Oswald, another one lone nut killed MLK, and one more lone nut killed RFK. Last -- If not for instructional malpractice caused by the tactics and influence of those who really run things, why else would people know so little about the Powell Memo that explains almost every political event and policy that has happened since it was written?
Dont forget, Americans were lied into the Korean War.
That makes it a gland slam in your examples of a government that seems designed to lie. It didn't miss one opportunity to do so since World War II. Such is the nature of capitalism, where a monetized congress considers a deliberate short con as a protected capitalist endeavor.
"But they seem so sincere about Russia's meddling in our elections, don't you think…? All the intelligence agencies agree. The generals say it's an act of war, just as if Russia bombed us."
We Americans are the ultimate innocents. We are forever desperate to believe that this time the government is telling us the truth. The people need a halfway decent Constitution if they want sophisticated protections against tyranny. The more they pretend that they have one, the easier it is to dominate them.
Carry a flame and share the light.
