"A longer video of the horrible, illegal, unethical arrest of a Salt Lake City nurse who was protecting the rights of her patient. "

This is a Tweet from Shaun King. It is my, and just might be your, outrage of the day. I am beginning to wonder if there is any way at all to bring the citizen's employees, the local police departments, under control.

Our whole relationship with 'authority' in this country is all turned around. The term "public servant" has morphed into "public official" and these arrogant shits think they are there to RULE, not to serve the public. This is a particularly egregious example of what I mean:

In the military is now the tactic that they use in their civilian employment. And it's the tactic TPTB want used. This is not just a 'few rogue cops'. It's (un)official policy.

EDIT: could some kind would please post that video? I can't make the actual Tweet show up. Duh.

The one you posted is her talking to her supervisor to verify hospital policy. Then the @sshole cop arrested her. No reason, no rights, just handcuffs. If you're cuffed, you'be been arrested. Not a one of these fools have an ounce of respect for the law.

@Amanda Matthews but that cop looks closer to retirement to me, I don't think he even has recent veteran status to "excuse" his behavior. Burned out perhaps? Needs to go. Just my opinion.

Been downhill ever since.

We need a Museum of the Living Wage. It could have exhibits on the many things people could do for a living in order to be able to buy the necessities and a few frivolities and still be able to put a couple bucks in the bank. Because both the jobs and the living wage are now gone and how will our kids ever know how close we came to the 'American Dream' before TPTB took it all away. Along with our civil rights, privacy, and personal safety (from what we called 'The Man').

Started with Reagan:

Most importantly, the Reagan administration launched a public relations campaign designed to change the public perception of drug use and the threat posed by illegal drugs. The centerpiece of this public relations campaign was a new rhetorical strategy that sought to demonize drugs and ostracize drug users.

http://racism.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=820:crime...

The Military Cooperation and Law Enforcement Act of 1981 carved a huge exception to the Posse Comitatus Act prohibiting the use of the military for civilian policing.

A 1984 amendment to the civil forfeiture statute that allowed feds and state and local police to keep up to 80% of the assets value caused a true revolution in SWAT use.

First created in the 1960s to handle riot control or violent confrontations with criminals, the number and usage of SWAT teams increased in the 1980s and 1990s during the War on Drugs and later in the aftermath of the September 11 attacks. In the United States as of 2005, SWAT teams were deployed 50,000 times every year, almost 80% of the time to serve search warrants, most often for narcotics.

And homegrown commie terrorists of course:

While the public image of SWAT first became known through the LAPD, perhaps because of its proximity to the mass media and the size and professionalism of the Department itself, the first actual SWAT-type operations were conducted north of Los Angeles in the farming community of Delano, California on the border between Kern and Tulare Counties in the San Joaquin Valley.

At the time, the United Farm Workers union led by César Chavez was staging numerous protests in Delano, in a strike that would last over five years.[3] Though the strike never turned violent, the Delano Police Department responded by forming ad-hoc SWAT-type units involving crowd and riot control, sniper skills and surveillance.

I will admit when he's right.

I'd prefer it if he stayed paying attention to actual, current problems that can be immediately addressed and fought. The Pigs absolutely need to be taken down a few thousand notches.

Unfortunately, if you go on twitter, his current high retweeted stuff has to do with Banning Columbus Day. Much more attention seeking, and you can get a good bit of racial tension out of that. Doesn't matter if it's right or wrong, it was 500 years ago, and therefore any arguments will be amazingly ineffective at anything other than pissing people off.

@detroitmechworks in Hawaii, someone asked, a young student right out of high school, why the fuss on the mainland over Columbus Day? Don't remember what year that was, 90's though. The instructor looked at him and said, well, it would be like Hawaii having James Cook Day. Aaaahhhh....the classroom said. Not to snark at all DMW, but her point was made. I get we can't and shouldn't ban it, but maybe give equal time to what we vanquished? LOL, I know, dreaming and I know you get that.

leave along with a second cop.
S.L. detective placed on leave

SALT LAKE CITY — Two Salt Lake City Police Department employees were placed on leave Friday and a criminal investigation has been ordered over video of a veteran officer dragging a nurse out of the hospital and arresting her after she refused to allow a blood draw from an unconscious patient without seeing a warrant.

He was working in a limited role since the incident and he was put on leave after Utah's AG saw the video.
The cops in Utah have been behaving badly for a long time and they are finally getting re-leaved of duty.

Footage shows SLC detective who arrested nurse saying he’d ‘take good patients elsewhere’

Detective Jeff Payne told another officer that he works a second job as a paramedic with Gold Cross Ambulance and brings patients to University Hospital, body camera footage obtained by The Salt Lake Tribune shows.
When the other officer tells Payne that the staff at the hospital probably won’t be very happy with him, Payne responds, ”I’ll bring them all the transients and take good patients elsewhere.”

This is why cops should have to have audio and video cameras.

Payne wonders out loud on the video how the incident may affect his other job, as a part-time Gold Cross paramedic.
