Whilst the Democrats Scream "Russia" The CIA....

States what they have been doing for decades:

In response to Assange's news conference, CIA spokeswoman Heather Fritz Horniak said: "As we've said previously, Julian Assange is not exactly a bastion of truth and integrity. Despite the efforts of Assange and his ilk, CIA continues to aggressively collect foreign intelligence overseas to protect America from terrorists, hostile nation states and other adversaries."

{note: not defensively but aggressively]

What were they up to?

Speaking during a press conference broadcast via Facebook Live, Assange on Thursday promised to give exclusive access to tech manufacturers after the latest document dump, which included allegations that the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) hacked into smartphones and computers.

The whistle-blowing site also claimed the trove of 8,000 documents proved that the CIA and British MI5 military intelligence developed malware to infiltrate Samsung smart TVs and turn them into listening devices.

They basically admitted Wikileaks information was correct

The CIA has so far declined to comment directly on the authenticity of the leak, but in a statement issued on Wednesday it said such releases are damaging because they equip adversaries "with tools and information to do us harm."

It's only a surprise and a shock to Americans when it is returned in kind.

This today was quite amazing:

WATERS: Republicans in many of these districts are considered to be very patriotic. And when their constituents, even if they’re right-wing conservatives, discover that somehow they’re protecting Putin and the Kremlin, they’re not going to like that. Because many of them think they’re more patriotic than anybody else. So Republicans cannot be caught defending Putin. And we must say that over and over again.

And for Democrats, we’ve got to stay on it. We’ve got to challenge. We can’t be intimidated. We can’t think about whether this is going to cause us to have trouble in our elections. We’ve got to go for it. I believe that African-Americans can lead this fight. And show up and show that we are as patriotic as anybody else.

Trump has been accused of McCarthyism, this by a Democrat carries the same odour. Picking one race out one way or another is dangerous in itself, divisive even.

It was if we were already at war with Russia.

Between the two all of us are suspect and the CIA has all the tools necessary coupled with a history of lying and dirty tricks to ensnare anyone they so chose.

The whole bloody lot of them make me feel ill.

What happened was: some documents the Democrats wrote themselves and didn't want Americans to read were released. They blamed losing an election on Russia for the contents of their own documents.

I'll never poo-poo an episode of the twilight zone again.

BTW Many are laughing at the circus going on. Even if this was done by THEM! and was the intent; never in their wildest imagination would they have predicted the results.

Chomsky: My guess is that most of the world is just collapsing in laughter. Suppose all the charges are true, I mean every single one, it is so amateurish by US standards that you can hardly even laugh. What the US does is the kind of thing I described in Italy in 1948. Case after case like that, not hacking or spreading rumors in the media; but saying look, we’re going to starve you to death or kill you or destroy you unless you vote the way we want. I mean that’s what we do.

Indeed, that's what we [our government] do.

I told you the Patriot Act gave too much power to the NSA.

Watch out what you wish for when the investigation starts, be careful what you chose to believe. You want impeachment, again be careful what you wish for.

As for the hearings, like all hearings in DC, they'll be spending their time looking for their asses with both hands and a flashlight. There is no direct evidence, no proof, it does not exist in the sane world. They are just praying that it sticks the way "Russia invaded Ukraine" did — if they say it often enough.

Alarmingly, I don't know if you noticed, all media references to Russia interfering with the 2016 election flipped this week into a flat declarative statement of fact. Both in print and mainstream cable, simultaneously. It was weird to behold, because it is monumentally difficult to isolate the very instant of change. It's like the uncertainty principle. But not this time. Perhaps manufactured change is easier to spot.

Gee, Silicon Valley territory, with all of the White-House-linked Google workers and lots of Dems already practiced at rigging primaries went big for Clinton?

Very interesting history given here - although I can't locate any links being given, or the video which was to be published but which doesn't appear to be included with the article. (I did, however, notice a number of interesting Clinton articles abruptly vanish, magically becoming blank pages with telling URLs, etc., from the net, during the primary and even while I was looking for/at them, so dunno if the video mentioned was ever on this page and 'was vanished' or how accurate this is, [sounds feasible, but who knows anymore?] so if anyone knows/feels like researching???)

HEY CALIFORNIA, YOUR ELECTION WAS RIGGED
Posted on June 9, 2016 by Daniel Hopsicker

Hey California. Here’s an URGENT SIGALERT: There’s a snake hidden in your midst, coiled inside your election machinery. Exercise extreme caution. Be on the lookout for a late-model black SUV with illegally-tinted windows… and a million votes tied up in the trunk.

Executives (and owners) of the election company that counted approximately 40 per cent of California’s vote have been convicted of bribing and suborning public officials. They’ve been busted for rigging elections—a couple times per decade—for the past 40 years. Top executives have gone to jail. Still, they soldier on, tabulating and counting the vote, as if nothing had happened. And we let them.

Two days before the California primary, I wrote, “If the 2016 Democratic primary in California is rigged, it’s ‘‘the boys’ from one company—Sequoia Pacific nee Dominion Voting Systems, working out of San Leandro, and Oakland, and tiny Exeter in the San Joaquin Valley—who’ll likely be charged with making it happen.”

I’m not gifted psychically. But making that call was easy. Why? Because these are the go-to guys for this sort of thing. Also, several years ago California’s then-Secretary of State left to go to work for the company, after steering them a good chunk of the state’s business. ...

... They say a picture’s worth a thousand words, so I’m also publishing a video showing Sequoia/Dominion being caught in the act of rigging an election. But first, a brief criminal history of the company that rigged the 2016 Democratic Presidential primary election in California. ...

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electoral_fraud

... Division of opposition support

Stanford University professor Beatriz Magaloni described a model governing the behavior of autocratic regimes. She proposed that ruling parties can maintain political control under a democratic system without actively manipulating votes or coercing the electorate. Under the right conditions, the democratic system is maneuvered into an equilibrious state in which divided opposition parties act as unwitting accomplices to single-party rule. This permits the ruling regime to abstain from illegal electoral fraud.[9]

Preferential voting systems such as score voting, instant-runoff voting, and single transferable vote are designed to prevent systemic electoral manipulation and political duopoly.[10][11] ...

But Our North American Corporate Overlords certainly won't even 'allow' us this.

I signed a petition to the Canadian Liberals to keep their word (lol, they have people who dust regularly and chuck that sort of garbage promise regularly) on having a fair vote system set up before the next election and they simply - having provided grim Harper-style warnings about anyone sending a 2nd petition signature being denied access forever - failed to send the verifying key to have my signature accepted, with no means of directly accessing them to say WTF. And they will continue to claim that nobody's interested in a Fair Vote system, even though that's a major part of what apparently (Harper didn't pass an 'law' gagging Elections Canada from informing the public about electoral fraud just before the election for no reason) suckered a number of people into strategic-voting for InJustice Tru-don't over the NDP, in the effort to eliminate the Cons.

But they wouldn't have gone through with this anyway, as the Koch brothers and corporate/billionaire others now running the whole mess would see this as a waste, since they'll be cheating anyway (bet they declare a landslide for Harper, lol,) and are trying to trap us in a duopoly, presumably to keep bribe costs down while they still bother faking elections. US (and European) corporations and billionaires, exporting US corporate-style 'democracy' all over the world...

Just as Russia and Syrian Arab Army bringing peace to Syria, US war mongers going to re-escalate the conflict.

Reds under every bed: US generals, senators talk Russia at ISIS hearing
“We are not currently coordinating or cooperating with the Russians; we are simply de-conflicting our air operations,” General Joseph Votel, head of the US Central Command (CENTCOM) told the Senate Armed Services Committee on Thursday, contradicting reports that Russia and the US-led coalition were coordinating their operations in Syria against Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL).

Russia’s 2015 intervention in Syria has “negatively impacted the regional balance of power,” while “Iran has expanded cooperation with Russia in Syria in ways that threaten US interests in the region,” Votel said.
...
“We’re trying to work with an indigenous force that has tensions with a NATO ally,” he said. “That’s not an easy situation to move through.”

The CENTCOM chief also referred to a program of training and equipping the “Vetted Syria Opposition (VSO) forces,” which the Pentagon was supposed to have abandoned following a 2015 fiasco, as key to “setting the ultimate conditions for a negotiated settlement to end the conflict.”

“Our revised training approach is proving successful, improving the effectiveness and lethality of the force on path to a projected strength of up to 35,000 by the end of fiscal year 2017 and growing to 40,000 in 2018,” Votel said in his prepared remarks.

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-South Carolina) argued it was not in the US national interest for Syria “to be handed to Assad, a proxy for Iran,” to the agreement of both generals.

Yeah, and Al-Queda had to ask the US for military protection in Syria. Must be some of the 'threatened US interests' in other people's country where neither terrorists nor 'US controlling interests' were welcome.

Bully nation: Is America hardwired for war & aggression? (POLL)

Growing up in America is by nature an isolated event. Inhabiting a vast and diverse landmass with oceans for bookends, and Canada and Mexico as barely-tolerant neighbors, we are just secluded enough to possess a cultural superiority complex that makes us think everybody on the planet envies us.

Our leaders, outstanding public servants that they are, happily manipulate this blind patriotism to undertake heinous acts of unprovoked aggression around the planet. Many Americans, blissfully unaware as to what is being done to innocent people in their names, believe that all terrorists hate them just because of their freedoms.

And then… the cold, bracing slap of reality when we wake up and discover the painful truth.

@Centaurea Someone was arguing with me about Russia and I asked for evidence. As "evidence" they pointed out the reports from the intelligence community. My response was that there was no evidence in those reports. There was an appeal to authority. But I don't trust that authority so the appeal has no merit. More to the point, given the well documented history of these groups, NOBODY should trust them.

If the intelligence community wants to pony up with their evidence and have it evaluated in the clear light of day then I'm all ears. Until then, no appeal to their authority could possibly influence me.

Wasn't there some apocryphal tale about how to tell which of two brothers was the one who always lied and which the one which was always truthful, so as to get the correct directions to some place of safety? Helps if you start knowing that one has always been accurate and the other lies like a doormat, though, assuming you like hints and are not personally interested in maintaining dissimulation in the cause of personally profitable destructive injustice.
