Washington State sues Monsanto over PCBs

When the Clinton cats are away, licking their wounds in Westchester, Democratic mice can play.

http://www.seattletimes.com/seattle-news/environment/washington-state-su...

Everyone here does know that Herself is or was the biotech baby, right? As soon as she is no longer Head of the Party, look what happens.

This a beginning. I think there is plenty more for which Monsanto needs to be brought to justice and the Fear of God, but Gov. Inslee has started somewhere. Now, if the new pres-elect would like to get out in front of the growing movement against Monsatan, he could have his new AG revive the anti-trust suit which JD was at one time preparing against the World's Most Hated Corporation.

I would also say that the "people's tribunal" at The Hague" this fall might have been more than an inept publicity stunt. As recently as a year ago, Monsatan was still respectable, part of American Prosperity, and now it isn't. Even though he is part of the party that lost, the Washington Gov. thinks he can bring this suit and afford the political price.

that there ways that Democrats can move forwards and regain their honor and integrity, by taking up some of the things which do affect American lives and livelihoods but which were suppressed by the Beltway Mafia.

Universal health care, next up??? How about reviving public transit, including between towns, so working class folks don't have to own personal vehicles if not needed for business.

new generation of leaders will come from.

Monsanto is both an enemy of the environment and an enemy of local sustainable agriculture and the people who farm that way. Monsanto will stall and stall and try to change venues, etc - I would hope the governor would meet such tactics by confiscation of assets to force a settlement - or similar. It's an outlaw corporation and needs to be treated as such.

Thanks for the good news this morning.

I wish WA state the best of luck, and applaud their effort. Unfortunately our injustice system is for sale and can be bought.

They (Monsanto) have sued farmers for growing their GMO crops when they escaped from other farmers fields. They have essentially shut down most independent seed producers with this tactic. They produce about a quarter of all crop seeds.

Monsanto using the DeKalb™ logo as a screen. So it seems "DeKalb™" has many varieties of seed production field covering many square miles of central Nebraska.

Somewhere else on the internet (I forget just which particular site) I commented regarding the corporate takeover and subversion of agriculture and that GMO technology was just another weapon in that war. For my efforts I was told to shut up because I obviously didn't know of what I wrote. The Monsanto Versus Farmers story falls on deaf ears here in the heartland of America.

RIP, reporting live (so far ‽) from petrochemical (fortified with GMO) central.

corn, soy, beef cattle.

Perhaps the hostility directed to you comes from the survivors of the war on farmers of small acreages. It has been reported that a profitable farm needs to be above 10,000 acres because of the costs of patented seeds, fertilizers, pesticide, herbicide, and the monster-sized farm equipment to allow a few to manage farms this big.

The idea is for the farmer to be a contractor to Monsanto, Cargill, or one or to others. The farmer owns the land and pays taxes but is forced to use inputs only the monopolies provide. The cost of the pollution that runs off is borne either by society or the poisoning is accepted and covered up.

tell folks like you to shut up, but they cannot force people like me to buy their GMO contaminated products. They should take a look at how fast the organic sector is growing. This is not just a few hippie, elitist richie buyers, it is a lot of ordinary people also. What I have found is that if I cook at home, I can afford some organics along with non-chemically enhanced foodstuffs.

One of the attractions: Medford is in an isolated valley (Bear Creek / Rogue River) and is the home to a lot of people that agree with us. It is still a open question because TPTP will fight to the death of us all. But at least, for the nonce, we have an awesome Localvore and Organic community.

I like the idea of living among people who agree on the basic issues and have a humanitarian world view. Best wishes to you & Medford.

The "they" in my case were people at another internet blog site (thou shall not name) and at Reddit. Every time I tried to engage in a conversation with the science savvy crowd it all would go sideways. I suppose that's why I spend most of my online time here.

at TOP, that i know of, and probably a few more.
Virulent propagandists who played dumb on the difference between genetic engineering and hybridizing.
Trust your local organic farmers to know the difference every time.
Grow your own using seed from trusted sources, like

My link does not seem to be working so here is the hot link to Fedco.
https://www.fedcoseeds.com/
They test for contamination and will not knowingly sell any genetically engineered seed.
Fine folks to do business with- the prices are low and fair and excellent varietal choices for northern states make our short season gardens the envy of just about everyone!

My wife does all the "on line" stuff so will pass it along. I like the face-to-face approach so the local co-ops, and (as you noted) farmers will be my primary source. I suppose I should plan on posting some regular articles here as we get into developing our garden. Maybe that would make a nice series complimentary to the energy series.

You mean besides Kos himself?

'MemfromSomerville' for sure. I don't remember the others. The first inkling I had that Kos might have a pro-corporate agenda was when he forbade calling out paid shills.

I second the recommendation for Fedco. They have their 2017 vege list up for preorder.

he was on his anti-Monsanto Tour with Promise of the Real? By the time he came on stage the place was packed (he drew lots of young kids) and it was a great concert - but more importantly - what he was telling people about the dangers of Frankenfood was very well received. There are some people who are still trying to warn us of the danger and there are still people out there listening.

The strange thing is when I was at Desert Trip 2 in California, a part of his performance was also speaking/singing out against those destroying water/food sources and those people got outright nasty and Neil Young got angry and said "okay, then we'll just go back to singing" and that's exactly what he did. Now I admit the crowd who was giving him trouble was right up front in the 'Diamond' section (I was behind them in Platinum - cute, huh?) They paid big bucks to be where they were. But I have never heard of or seen Neil Young treated disrespectfully by a crowd before (except the time he was touring with The Pink Flamingos). But I digress...

California is a HUGE!!!! agricultural state. Also a fracking state going through drought conditions. I would have thought that would have mattered to people out there in California regardless of who you were. I was sadly mistaken. It was the plebs mostly starting behind my section who were hearing what he said and appreciated it and cheered.

I missed it, unfortunately. I would have liked to see him. He has been to Nebraska a couple of times.

Crowd dynamics can be weird. A few, well relatively few, vocal people can really change the mood.

A few friends, my wife and I went to a small venue in the Tempe / Mesa area. Herbie Mann was slated to do a two part set. At first it was going sort of good. An intimate jazz quartet in a bar, nice and smooth. Damn ! that was great · · · except for one thing.

The crowd was not in the groove. They, particularly near the small stage, talked and a few started making a few catty remarks, and the rest seemed to ignore the whole thing. After one and a half songs Herbie stepped back between the trap set and the base guitar and let the lead guitar take over. The crowd started to get into it as the tone segued into a rock trio and the flute became a distant fourth. We, after a short time, filled with angst, quietly left the bar to the rowdy ASU crowd. Wow, I am glad I didn't get stuck in Tempe.
