UPDATE: (Now I want to hear them explain this): NYT Reporter: Clinton Campaign Lawyer Lied To Me About Dossier Funding

NYT Reporter: Clinton Campaign Lawyer Lied To Me About Dossier Funding

On the heels of an explosive report alleging that the Hillary Clinton campaign helped pay for that infamous Trump-Russia dossier, known in some circles as the "golden showers dossier," two New York Times reporters have publicly accused Clinton's campaign lawyer, Marc Elias, of lying to them about funding the research.

The report published by the The Washington Post on Tuesday revealed that Elias' law firm hired opposition research firm Fusion GPS to dig up dirt on then-presidential candidate Donald Trump. The infamous "golden showers" dossier alleged that Trump had personal ties to Russia, had colluded with them to harm Hillary's campaign, and engaged in unsavory sexual practices with Russian hookers when visiting the country. When BuzzFeed published the dossier without confirming the dossier's veracity, the information within was largely regarded by intelligence experts as untrustworthy.

http://www.dailywire.com/news/22723/nyt-reporter-clinton-campaign-lawyer...

Nice, huh? They freaking outright lied to reporters when specifically asked about this ‘report’. Lied. Isn’t that the biggest problem everyone has with Trump? He’s a liar (a traitor even!!) who collided with RUSSIANS! to get dirt in the opposition? Isn’t that the bottom line???? It sure as fuck was the excuse they (Clinton Creature, Inc.) used to get the ball rolling for all these ‘investigations’. What does the wretched old woman say about the Dossier in her book? (I’ll never read it myself.)

How’s this going over at TOP? Anybody know? Are they making excuses like some i’m seeing? I guess I could go look. Maybe I will. But they can’t be spinning this crap anymore than the posters on WP or TPM. There’s some serious Twilight Zone scripts writing themselves over there.

This is kind of funny in a way. Not necessarily ha-ha funny but more “WTF???” funny. Look at the ammo they’ve handed to the Repubbues. I wonder if they’ll do anything?

UPDATE: Thanks to Eagles92 I now have Caitlin Johnstone’s take on this whole fiasco.

Thanks Eagles92!

Clintonists Suddenly Claiming It’s Perfectly Normal To Do Oppo Research With Russians

Debating proponents of the Russiagate conspiracy theory is always a bit surreal. Mostly it’s just outraged sputtering from people accustomed to only interacting with folks inside their echo chamber, who simply cannot believe that it’s not completely obvious to you that Trump colluded with Russia to steal the 2016 election.

*

*

So to recap, Democrats paid for opposition research with Russian insiders, but doing opposition research with Russians was not a big deal. Then Donald Trump Jr. met with a Russian to get dirt on Hillary Clinton, and suddenly doing oppo research with Russians was a big deal. And now that we’ve learned that the Democrats who paid Steele were not just Clinton supporters but Clinton campaign staff, we’re back to opposition research with Russians being no big deal again.

*

The Democratic party goon squad is just one leg of the lie machine these monsters lull us to sleep with, but I see them as one of the most toxic. The way the “Resistance” has successfully been used to co-opt the spirit of last year’s progressive revolution and twist it back into establishment subservience is typical of the way the Democratic party has always been used; its primary function is to hijack the movements which arise in response to the more overt oligarchic manipulations and render them impotent. For this reason I see their head propagandists as the primary obstacles to a meaningful revolution from the political left against the ruling elites who are killing us. I for one will keep speaking out against the evils they’re inflicting upon us for as long as anyone’s listening.

My guess, though, is that they simply ignore it the same way they do anything that doesn't confirm their world view.

@WaterLily but the mainstream media have so much invested in HRC and in neoliberalism that this will probably be briefly covered and then forgotten by everyone except Fox (which is neoliberal but can't pass up a shot at HRC).

@WaterLily This blows my mind a little--the NYT, like WAPO, is absolutely corrupt and subservient to the corporate overlords and their henchmen in DC. So that means a part of the establishment really does want to throw Hillary under the bus. Interesting.

That is one of their two classic positions of last resort... "It's a big nothingburger". The other, of course is, "CT!"

It's always amusing to me that they seem to think they can end a conversation simply by declaring themselves right.

Goes like this:

In the fourth paragraph, he writes the unidentified former spy’s work:

was for an opposition research project originally financed by a Republican client critical of the celebrity mogul. (Before the former spy was retained, the project’s financing switched to a client allied with Democrats.)

(So please, don’t tell me you’re shocked, shocked at the news, Maggie NYT and every hyperventilating right winger since 8:00 tonight. If you hadn’t been willfully ignoring this while obsessing over bullshit server/foundation stories, you might have found out the political crime of the last 241 years happening right in front of you.)

So you see, it was originally funded by a Republican, so...I guess you can ignore all the stuff about the Clinton campaign?
And then the summary:

So many questions:

If the DNC was funding Steele and Steele had spilled enough for Corn to find out, why didn’t they do more with this information in the 8 days before the election?

What did other Democrats know and why didn’t they use it?

Uh maybe you missed the part that the Clinton campaign paid for the info, and then lied about it. Which kinda makes the info untrustworthy.
My mind doesn't work this way, so maybe someone else can translate for me.

bullshit server/foundation stories

I don't read DKos anymore, but why would the server and foundation stories be bullshit exactly?

I don't mean to ask you, gjohnsit, but that remark just illustrates how differently the writer must see the world from readers who question the Clintons.

because it's against Herheinous and the DP. That's why. No other reason to explain this.
And to answer your other question about "isn't this a case of both sides do it '?
Yep. But it's only bad when republicans or Bernie does this type of thing. I know, it doesn't make any sense, but that site hasn't been making sense since Obama was elected and continued doing the same things that Bush did and Hillary embarked upon her way to her coronation. But Bernie had the audacity to run against her so she had to mingle with people that she had planned on screwing over and she also had to fly around the country to give speeches to people she looked down upon. This and she also had to go to private fundraisers and mingle with rich people.
I enjoy going there and read about the next big breath taking revelation about the Russian/Mueller investigation that is Shirley going to be the thing that takes Trump down and possibly put him in prison.
I wonder if they have thought this through. If Trump is removed from office, we will be left with Pence and the Christian Taliban who are waiting in the wings. Instead of suffering from the Twitter tweeter, we'll be welcoming the Handmaiden society.

I believe that that will be the reason why republicans don't want to touch his impeachment. They know that his supporters will rise up against them and they can kiss their majority goodbye for years. They too rely on those red neck supporters.
The comments I see about his performance in office run along the lines of he is doing a great job as president. They don't care if ICE breaks up the families of immigrants that are here illegally, their views are that those people broke the law and should have to leave even if it breaks up families. This is from the crowd that think that every child should have a mom and dad. Hint: Gays are icky.

is one set of oligarchs hurling (or manufacturing) propaganda against another set of oligarchs. It's the Doligarchs versus the Roligarchs -- how exciting! They call this shit-slinging "opposition research" which makes it sound respectable. Sounding respectable is very important for Party big shots. And paying women to pee on you is of course not very respectable.

But media-types will gobble up this disinformation like candy, the more salacious the better. I mean since they're not really allowed to talk about anything important. Except for maybe starting a war with Russia -- they'd all like to do that if possible. Hardly anyone would object to fighting a war with Russia, except for maybe Trump. But he is probably being blackmailed by Putin, so that must be why.

@native Having done opposition research myself, for campaign purposes--no, it's not a nice business. But it doesn't have to be golden-showers-level nastiness. I was looking into the person's voting record.

The main thing is: I, and other people who have worked on campaigns, have been saying all along that the Donny Jr portion of Russiagate is just opposition research, and that isn't against the law. If it is, then campaigning is against the law. And in fact, much of the time, the outrage of Clinton supporters seems to be centered on the fact that anybody campaigned against her.

Bottom line: opposition research--and campaigning--is either OK or it isn't.

went to a meeting with a 'Russian lawyer because she told him that she had 'dirt' on Hillary. The kosbots wrote one breathless diary after another about it.
Duh! This has been happening since debates were created by gawd, but anyone who said anything bad about Herheinous were evil, especially Bernie. He had the gaul to say that she was unqualified to be president. I remember her saying this exact same thing about Obama. Remember her "Who do you want answering the phone at 3 am?

I've read the 3 (so far) diaries at ToP and I don't think anyone can just sum it up for you. You have to read it yourself to get the gist of the number of hoops that they make their brains go through to understand them. Even reading it yourself, you still won't be able to understand their line of thinking.

It's not just about the Steele dossier either. They have been saying that the Russian uranium deal has been debunked. Funny, I just finished reading another article about how congress (both sides) is going to hold hearings on this.
But I doubt that anything will come from this. Just more theater to keep us plebes distracted from the republicans and democrats working together to cut taxes on their masters. The fact that they will also benefit from this is just a inconvenient fact. Amirite?

Updated: Hillary said this during one of the debates or something like one. She, McCain and Obama were on stage together and she pointed to her and McCain and asked the question about who was more qualified to respond to an emergency. She was talking about Obama's lack of experience. Basically saying that he wasn't qualified to be president. Bernie said that more than once and the Herbots say that they will never forgive him for saying that.

Russia Triples Gold Reserves in Preparation for Full-Scale Economic War with the U.S. Dollar

Additionally, Russia is simultaneously pursuing other strategic dollar alternatives besides gold. Russia and China have built a non-dollar payment system for regional trading partners.

One of the most threatening uses of U.S. financial influence has been its utilization of the SWIFT payment system, which acts as a hub of global money transfer message traffic, as the U.S. threatens to cut other nations off from the system if they refuse to be subservient to U.S. hegemonic dictates.

Russia clearly understands its vulnerability to U.S. domination and has worked diligently to reduce that vulnerability. In turn, Russia has created an alternative to SWIFT.

“There was the threat of being shut out of SWIFT. We updated our transaction system, and if anything happens, all SWIFT-format operations will continue to work. We created an analogous system,” Elvira Nabiullina, head of Russia’s central bank, reported to Vladimir Putin.

Russia is also part of a reported Chinese plan to install a new international monetary order that excludes U.S. dollars. Under that plan, China could buy Russian oil with yuan and Russia could then exchange that yuan for gold on the Shanghai exchange.

How ironic, Putin goes back to the gold standard. Wow, I want some of what they're having. Ding! Analogous systems for the win. Ding!

good luck
