For Uncle
I got word from my assistant on the first day of my vacation that my friend and client had passed away. He and I were close friends for at least 35 years. His sons are also my friends and clients.
Well, he is Lyle Lovett's uncle. I am not a fan big of country music, although I do have some artists I like. As it turns out, I had never heard Lyle's music.
I was introduced to Lyle's cool stuff by my husband. I told uncle about it, and he said, "Lyle is MUCH MORE than country."
He was so proud of Lyle, loved going to see and hear him play, and watched his on line videos during these past 2 years of COVID.
I haven't gotten word of the funeral, and if it hasn't happened yet, I will go, despite my dislike of funerals. I will probate uncle's will, which I prepared for him fairly recently.
I thought I would drop a couple of songs here, and let's see if you think uncle was right about that "MUCH MORE than country assessment.
And one more:

Country meets Bossa Nova!
Thanks for the selection.
Even though I’ve never been a country music fan, I’ve always loved this song …

I think Lyle Lovett is one of those talented musicians who can’t be labeled.
Rest in peace uncle and friend.
I agree!
I will miss him. Going to court and presenting his will is going to be very emotional for me.

Thanks for bringing Lyle's work in to share
Show and tell .. once saw he and Bonnie Raitt play at an outdoors concert in Massachusetts.
As you say, his music is unique. Hard to classify into existing genres. They played well
together. For y'all ..

Zionism is a social disease
A great song, isn't it?

Mr. Lovett
is uniquely gifted, and his music does indeed transcend traditional genre categorization. He is also a genuinely nice human being, entirely unlike the traditional frontman. He is much, much more a jazz/big band guy than people typically think.
He has one toe in the Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys big-band dance tradition, another in the Randy Newman school of really clever lyrics, and the rest is all him. "Road to Ensenada" is an absolute classic, and highly recommended for a non-country-music fan...
Twice bitten, permanently shy.
That great album
I just wrote him off as another country singer in boots, hat, ridin' in a rodeo. That is, until I HEARD him.
The Lovett family is cows and oil patch. Where his cleverness and artistry came from is atop a horse.
His uncle also got a kick out of Julia Roberts, sort of a "you go, boy!" attitude. Made him really proud of his nephew!

That'd do it.
His music ain't all pedal steel and "fine time to leave me, Lucille"...

Another from Austin City Limits
The 6 and 12 strings with Leo had a good sound.
You can't resist it. Maybe circa 1987?
Just lost my favorite aunt. Like a second mother. Great humor.
Spent yesterday reaching out to the cousins.
Writing sympathy cards today.

I am very sorry for your loss.

Yeah, she was the last of that generation
We had some good times. Got a picture of me in my sleeping bag in their back yard somewhere.
On a cross country motorcycle trip, maybe 40 some years ago. Will be fun to share.
Good luck with your uncle.
and thanks!
Zionism is a social disease
I have reached out to a couple of the uncle's
He was being cared for my yet another client, a home health worker, and she had mentioned every day she went to his home, he was worse than the day before.
I am glad his suffering was of short duration.

Good morning otc. Sorry for your loss of your friend.
I've heard very little LL, so I guess I'll have to take the time to listen to all the clips here. Thanks for bringing him up.

As usefewersyllables says, Lyle
I will drop just one more song. I don't know what the hell the genre is, and don't give a shit. It is just FUN stuff!
