Amazing how the threat of death by others
becomes a social deterrent and lesson, even by song.
Hey! my dear friends or soon-to-be's, JtC could use the donations to keep this site functioning for those of us who can still see the life preserver or flotsam in the water.
22 John Hardy's in my collection
Naturally, some overlap, but you've found some good ones that I haven't heard. I like the Baird-Espvall-Kraus version.
Yes, these songs were cautionary tales, John Hardy, Stackolee, Tom Dula, Frankie & Johnnie. I am working on one about my great-great-uncle. Worse than all the rest of the lot. The John Hardy tune works well for it. "I'm standing on my hanging ground" ties them together.
"I’m a human being, first and foremost, and as such I’m for whoever and whatever benefits humanity as a whole.” —Malcolm X
A different take on the John Hardy story
and my fav David Nelson Band tune, so I guess it fits the theme anyway.
Donnie The #ShitHole Douchebag. Fake Friend to the Working Class. Real Asshole.
I am most familiar with the Carter Family version & like itl
Notice that Maybelle plays a Gibson L-5, a jazz guitar. Playing this top of the line arch top helped give her a distinct sound in her musical field.
"The justness of individual land right is not justifiable to those to whom the land by right of first claim collectively belonged"
