RFK Jr and Roger Waters: A dose of truth

Well two of the Good People dropped truth bombs this week.

First, RFK Jr had this to say:

Then Roger Waters had this to say:

Thanks to Lookout and JtC for your assistance.

Both men have been facing recent propaganda attacks and censorship in different forms. The attacks on Roger Waters are the most absurd. I saw The Wall in 1980 in Los Angeles. To say that concert makes him antisemitic is the highest order of absurdity. Mr. Rogers knows who is casting this Big Lie about him.

"Why now? The Israeli Government sees me as an existential threat to their settler colonialist racist apartheid regime."

Roger Waters has this wisdom from his mother to impart upon each of us: "Read, read, read, read and then read some more. Find out everything there is to know about whatever it is. However long it takes, do the heavy lifting. When you've done that, the hard work is over. The next bit is easy, do the right thing."

Faced with a wall of censorship and propaganda, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has developed an unusual campaign strategy—telling Americans the truth. In Episode 1 of this series about his presidential campaign, Mr. Kennedy describes how God, nature, and his family’s legacy have inspired him to run for the highest office.

Robert F. Kennedy Jr.:
“We’re going to do a mass experiment, a new kind of mass experiment of what happens when you tell the people the truth.”

"My mission over the next 18 months of this campaign, and throughout my Presidency, will be to end the corrupt merger of state and corporate power that is threatening now to impose a new kind of corporate feudalism on our country...to poison our children and our people with chemicals and pharmaceutical drugs, to strip mine our assets, to hollow out the middle class, and keep us in a constant state of war.”

Bobby Junior has a great rap. I especially appreciate his line of reasoning on Ukraine. Rather than fall into the propaganda trap by defending Putin and the Russian State, he quotes our own government proclaiming the "strategic" goal of getting rid of Putin -- this campaign has nothing to do with humanitarian concern for the population of Ukraine. It is just war for its own demented sake. I do understand, as a matter of objective fact, that the US Goovernment provoked this crazy adventure, as frequently related on this board. But I think that is bad politics, tacitly buying into the premise that our nation needs to come to the aid of any country that is mistreated by a more powerful neighbor. The USA should NOT try to be the world's policeman. Many of us thought we had given up on that role when the helicopters hurried out of Saigon. Sleepy Joe and the post-Obama Democrats have now put the Badge back on.

I have a lot of optimistic confidence in the political strategy of opposing what were once called "foreign entanglements." I will be pleasantly surprised if Bobby Junior gets many delegates, but for the mass of people, rather than just the MSM entranced core Party membership, we have finally reached a time when enough people are experiencing a palpable decline in their lives, that George McGovern's old buzz phrase would catch on.

Come home America.

.
You know, scoring delegates doesn't really matter anymore in US elections. Even winning doesn't mean much — in our rogue neocon government — or in the phony "loyal opposition" kabuki of the two corporate-controlled political Parties.

What matters is that a person of integrity is standing up to speak the truth during an election. That hasn't happened in a long, long time. It means a lot to those of us who think and act with intellectual honesty. Despite the abuse.

Her campaign was caught red handed manipulating ballots...on film. A case was brought in state court, but the judge ruled the DNC was a private organization and could decide on their candidates in anyway they wanted. Think RFK will get justice from these same corrupt dims? I don't. Bernie's fate being cheated or worse I fear.

@Lookout particularly if the state polling is very close between Biden and Kennedy. That would give the DNC cover to cheat. But if that is repeated in several states with a tied race in the polls, with Biden somehow always winning, after the 2d or 3d time people will get suspicious and his nomination will be so tarnished as to be beyond repair. At that point, having made a solid case for a rigged, dishonest party system, Kennedy probably should run 3d party.

Bernie's bark turned out to be greater than his bite. Good guy, and also, like Obama, not much of a fighter.

@fire with fire the conflict over Ukraine is a simple property grab. Supposedly the "big issue" of the war is one of whether the Crimea and the Donbas areas are supposed to be part of Ukraine or Russia. In actuality, this "big issue" fades into insignificance when you realize that the Ukraine proxy war appears as a colossally-stupid con job. The Ukrainians are not winning the war, and while the US decides to send Ukraine boatloads of machinery which the Russians then destroy, the rest of the world is looking for a way out of dollar hegemony.

Confiscating the foreign assets of the Russian oligarchs has backfired. The oligarchs have consequently been forced to invest in Russia, which is good for Russia. US saber-rattling over Taiwan has also driven China into the Russian camp. And the rest of the world, outside of Europe which can no longer have it, likes Russian oil.

As for the rest of us, I'd advise keeping tabs on Simplicius the Thinker's Substack.

I like both RFK Jr and Waters, and sympathize with Water's antisemitism-predicament. It puts me in mind of Randy Newman's "Short People" (1977), not because the themes are the same but because both Waters and Newman are using irony (not satire) and it seems that Americans then and Germans now can't understand irony. You might recall that Newman was taken to court for defamation of short people or something like that. (Irony is based on knowledge, or self-knowledge: you name what is not your object, or what is the opposite of your object (say, Nazis) while working in the structure of knowledge, which is always divided in two, so in naming what is not your object you give (virtual) rise to the other side, the opposite of your object. The ironist relies on that division and on the reader's sensing and acknowledging that "other side." This sounds less crazy if you've studied post-enlightenment literature. . . .) RFK Jr has a similar ironic spin in his interview at the SCALE conference of hedge-fund-owners. They hated him and RFK Jr came off IMO as sincere and boring. But check that bare leg and those 'wild and crazy' socks!

@EyeRound the costumes and "fascism" were part of a well-explained theatrical display that either Waters or Pink Floyd has been doing since 1980. So not only have the complainers missed the substance of Waters' content, they also appear to have brought their complaints to the press forty-three years after this stuff was first shown to the mass public.

is already on track to kneecap RFK Jr. It's possible, though, that the Dems will hold their "convention" in Chicago and most people will not pay attention. Media will blare and people will yawn. But RFK Jr. might still be running strong. As of now he's running on the internet, podcasts, social media, etc. If that seems like not enough right now, well, things can change! (Wrong spot--this was supposed to be a reply to Lookout's comment.)

@TheOtherMaven

He completely screwed himself by running as a dem. And now we get to watch the dem character-assassination machine grind into action: soon they'll escalate beyond simply calling him a kook through all their stenographers, and they'll roll out the inevitable heroin story. And then plant some hookers on his tour bus and kiddy porn on his laptop. And then do whatever else their "opposition research" team can come up with to make him appear as unpalatable as possible to Joe and Mary Sixpack.

It is beyond disgusting, and also completely inevitable.

@usefewersyllables pretty well inoculated all candidates for president from personal character assassination. Joe and Mary Sixpack have shown in 2016 and 2020 that they will vote for even a scoundrel like Trump so long as he says the right things. And RFK Jr has further immunized himself by being honest about his troubled past, even making jokes about it.

Further, to some important extent (hopefully) he has also immunized himself against physical assassination by talking openly about how his uncle was killed by the CIA and likely too his father. Still possible, for sure, but his talking about those assassinations at least reduces the risk.

Re a 3d party run, it's possible after a dubious primary and convention process strongly suggest significant rigging for Joe. After trying the traditional way and having exposed it as dishonest would give such a 3d party run much more credibility. Biden the tarnished D nominee sees many outraged D voters leaving for Kennedy, possibly enough to make it more of a Kennedy vs R Nominee race, with Joe, unpopular with the public to begin with, trailing badly in third place.

It's not too far-fetched a scenario, even considering 3d parties are normally viewed as spoilers and do not become winners. But it's still a stretcher, even more so than Kennedy winning the D nomination, so he's right to try the traditional party route first.

@wokkamile

character-assassination machine is second only to their legal department's election-ratfucking machine. So, if RFKjr somehow stays in long enough to lose a few "primaries", and then tries to jump to a third party, I'm sure that the dems will tie that effort up in court using the sore loser laws in every state that they can (even those states in which those laws have never actually been applied/enforced in the past). There are those who say that those laws do not apply to presidential campaigns; to those folks I say "Watch and learn".

They'll pull out all the stops to make sure that their fair-haired undead meat-puppet will be able to go lose the election for them, for sure. Nothing will be allowed to get in his drooling way.

@TheOtherMaven @TheOtherMaven meaning how long the candidate stays with a party and when s/he jumps to third party. I think it's called the "dirty break" tactic. On the question of how to get third parties onto the ballot in a presidential race, Brihanna Joy Gray had an interesting interview with Richard Winger:

Apparently they also missed this 1981 UK Royal Mail Postal Service commemorative issue.

@Battle of Blair Mountain @Battle of Blair Mountain WOW, someone else that was there! Incredible... Don't find many since it was not a whole U.S. tour, I think it was only NY and LA as the set was to hard to move and set up. I am not sure which night I went, but surely have the stub in my stub box in a box somewhere. I had tickets for two nights but it happened when there was this, what are they, a divorce thingie happening, so only got to see one night. Smile
