Rest in Peace Sugar Man

Sixto Rodriguez dies at 81

The Detroit-based Rodriguez did not know how popular he had become in South Africa, where his songs became anthems for the anti-apartheid struggle in the 1970s. Back in the United States, success had eluded him.

@usefewersyllables Hey UFS... Did some math on this and I am fairly certain this is because we are getting older, and seemingly faster. Wink The last decade has been brutal for the musicians of the 60's and 70's especially, the next decade will probably be worse... Watching all these heroes pass is tough...

@dystopian

I had never heard of him before I lived in NZ. He was quite popular here from early on in the 70's.

I read about Sixto last night, made me very sad. His passing made me sad. I learned about him from listening to music from South Africa when I lived in Britain. Was startled to learn he was American. And then, to read in the comment about Robbie Robertson. We are definitely getting older.

That video for the song, 'I Wonder' is really, really good. Thanks for introducing me to it!

There is a great documentary about him. "Searching for Sugar Man." It won the academy award in 2013. It was a controversial win as everyone expected that the documentary about rape in the military would win, because that was important, and Sugar Man was considered "fluff."
