Republican Ads

I saw a Republican ad today for the first time. I had been curious to see what theme they would project. The theme is the Clinton Foundation, and the Clintons's rapid accumulation of vast wealth.

Thanks, chambord.

Some of you may recall I have canceled all tv recently. Occurs to me now one thing I will miss is being able to see what ads are airing here in Colorado - a battleground state.

I, for one, am glad not to see the commercials. My stomach just can't take it anymore. Sigh. Bad

But let's face it: Most of these fuckers on the political football field have some way of maintaining or accumulating wealth in and after leaving office. Trumpy Boy will be no different. Even if he doesn't win, I'm sure he'll find a way to turn a quick buck from his bankrupt campaign and call it a 'deal'.

Rick Scott collected huge sums of money when he ordered the state of Florida to drug test recipients of public assistance. And I'm sure he was given a hefty 'campaign contribution' when some of his corporate buddies wanted to frack in the Everglades. It's safe to say Trumpy Boy will find a way to do this on a national scale and say 'Look everybody! I made 'Murica great again!'

Modern education is little more than toeing the line for the capitalist pigs.

Guerrilla Liberalism won't liberate the US or the world from the iron fist of capital.

The Clintons are a true Horatio Alger story of American heroes that rise from poor and humble beginnings to lives of comfort and ease. As I recall hearing, the Clintons were broke when they left the White House, but through hard work, sheer dedication, and good old American can-doism, they turned the situation around and became fabulously wealthy. I think there was an Easter Bunny and a Leprechaun in their story, too, IIRC.

There are many different types of broke.

Ignoring for the moment, that this was a statement made by HRC herself, which automatically means it was a grotesque exaggeration and only remotely and tangentially based on anything in reality......

People who are rich and influential can actually be "flat broke" meaning having 0 net assets and still live a life far beyond what most people can manage. Donald Trump is the classic example of this, but the Clintons were every bit as good.

The reason is that you can literally have no money, but if you have people willing to extend you credit, you actually do have money, enough money to easily turn yourself around.

That's the big problem for most people who get in tight situations. It takes money to make money, and if you cannot get enough money, to make money, you end up destitute. On the other hand, if you have good credit, and contacts and influential people and banks who are willing to extend you massive amounts of credit, or spend their money on your behalf, you can do extremely well even at Zero Net Assets.

That is what the Clintons did. Even assuming that their net assets were near zero, meaning a few hundred thousand or less, they had plenty of people willing to support them and extend them credit, which allowed them to setup the necessary infrastructure to acquire vast sums of wealth.

For many middle class people 'starting out' it used to be their parents and family that have provide the initial boost by paying for college or a place to live, or low interest loans to start a business. Cosign on a car or home loan. This is how it worked in the latter half of the 20th Century.

However, at this point, the parents and grandparents of middle class people no longer have the reserves to provide this support to their children. About all they can manage is to let them live at home. Fewer and fewer can pay for capital or provide the money to setup a household.

On the other hand parents of the upper classes, top 90% still have these resources and can provide the lift needed to launch a successful career.

Those at the true heights of power, Donald Trump and HRC have nearly unlimited resources and 'goodwill' to draw on.

The game is rigged and it is only getting worse.

The only good thing is that Donald has called on these resource to bail himself out several times now, and keeps blowing through them with not much to show, and the resources are starting to dry up. Which is why he depends on Russian Oligarchs to fund him and extend him credit.

The bad news is that the Clintons are about to reup their resource game with another round in the White House. They will come out with unparalleled resources to make more and more money on the world stage.

The ad starts with her statement that they had no money, then shows a list of donors to the foundation.

It's simply too painful to acknowledge, even to ourselves that we've been taken. Once you give a charlatan power over you, you almost never get it back. Carl Sagan

in that their legal bills from fighting the various scandals could have been more than their book assets, but it is probably an exaggeration, and anyway, Bill's government pensions (yes, pensions - he was also at least governor of Arkansas as well as POTUS) must run something like half a million a year. Besides, as soon as Bill left office Hillary was able to go back to investing in commodities, where we all know she's brilliant.

On to Biden since 1973

I don't know what the pension of a former president is. The pension from Arkansas can't be much, I read somewhere that his salary as governor there was $32,000 per year. Maybe someone from Arkansas can fill us in.

“I never did give them hell. I just told the truth, and they thought it was hell.”
― Harry Truman

Might have been that some one you saw. I thought it was from the NRA, but maybe it was from the Trump campaign one of the SuperPACs. I can't seem to find any links to it at the moment.

This one was pretty good, as I think it has appeal beyond the gun cult. (The NRA's first foray onto the airwaves features a mercenary gettin' his hate on Hillary because Bengazi! Good for riling up the wingnuts, but comes off as unsettling and more than a little unhinged imo.) In a voiceover, a narrator talks about one of the wealthiest women in the world being protected by armed guards for the last thirty years. We see her (from behind, never see her face) as she boards a private plane, where a monitor is showing a clip of Hillary in the same outfit discussing gun control. Ends with one of the NRAs favorite lines: She has people with guns to protect her, but wants to take away your right to protect yourself.
