Remember those pesky Goldman-Sachs speeches?

This may not be news to some of you, but it was to me. The

transcripts are available on wikileaks.

Some of the quotes get right to the heart of the matter. Hillary Clinton, for instance, believes that the best solution is for the banks to regulate themselves:

There's nothing magic about regulations, too much is bad, too little is bad. How do you get to the golden key, how do we figure out what works? And the people that know the industry better than anybody are the people who work in the industry.

The context there is that she is acknowledging that Wall Street failed to perform it's desirable function within the economy but is looking to Wall Street to correct that. In essence, she's saying that what happened was a mistake rather than the crime of the century. Compare and contrast that to Bernie Sanders who famously said, "The model of Wall Street is fraud."

Also in the second Goldman-Sachs speech she was quick to affirm that the issue was too much regulation:

And we need banking. I mean, right now, there are so many places in our country where the banks are not doing what they need to do because they're scared of regulations, they're scared of the other shoe dropping, they're just plain scared, so credit is not flowing the way it needs to to restart economic growth.

Yes, you read that right. The issue with Wall Street is that they are regulated too tightly according to Hillary Clinton.... in her own words... paid words.

There's a lot more of interest in her own words. Go ahead and click on the button above and then the "attachments" tab to download the three word documents. It's interesting to see the context. The quotes I gave you above are not spun out of context in some way. My best understanding of her GS2 speech is that she believes what happened in '08 was too much government interference and too little self-regulation.

ps: gotta love my fun link "button". Now if only I could get hover and push effects working I could have the flashiest posts ever!

Of course, we can all predict what the reaction will be. *eyeroll*

As for this:

In essence, she's saying that what happened was a mistake rather than the crime of the century.

Your read is more forgiving than mine. I think she's fully aware it was the crime of the century, and is offering a clear signal that she fully supports such crime.

Scared of regulatory oversight... What kinds of professional institutions are afraid of that?

The ones that are committing crimes and abusing human beings and the planet, that's who.

“Tactics without strategy is the noise before defeat.” ~ Sun Tzu

The heart of the leaks was really not just about screwing Bernie, but how the democratic party establishment were in effect Rockefeller republicans. Socially liberally (after being forced into those positions by gay rights movement) but totally right wing in their economics and foreign policy. They were not "centrists" but republicans.

@MrWebster

The social bones are eventually thrown to periodically divert the public with a win on some basic human right and so that it can be claimed that the public interest actually is served at some rare moments, now and then, without interrupting the ongoing privateering in the war on the citizenry.

Besides, those social bones can be withdrawn at any time that the public can be considered adequately subjugated. They're just useful for training (see, the Trade-Off Corporate Parties really are different! You haz democracy!) and distraction purposes.

Psychopathy is not a political position, whether labeled 'conservatism', 'centrism' or 'left'.

A tin labeled 'coffee' may be a can of worms or pathology identified by a lack of empathy/willingness to harm others to achieve personal desires.

politicians say to Goldman Sachs. These are guys who get a half million or million dollar bonuses, they run money across the globe in all sorts of complicated trades and multiple markets, forex, commodity, derivatives, stocks, bonds etc. There are very sharp they don't call them big swinging dicks, or masters of the universe for nothing. There is not one fucking thing that Hillary can tell them they don't already know. These speeches are just LEGAL corruption same as it always was. it's our system and as for as I'm concerned they are all in on it.

It's blatantly obvious that none of those speeches were worth $200k. They don't really contain any hard facts or information. They don't inform those investors on potentially profitable trends. They read more like a bit of a chat.... a $200k chat.

Didn't matter what she said, as long as it conformed to Wall Street dogma. They were buying continued access to Her on the assumption that Her would be the next President.

I was expecting... well... something like what I received when I was embedded in the corporate world. Sure, we had speakers. I assume they were paid most of the time. But the speeches I heard were clearly well thought out, well prepared, and carried content that was, in some way, likely to be useful to my Corporation.

It didn't need to be Shakespeare. But in order to fit into the "Hey, they're just some paid speeches" meme, they'd need to have actually been something with some content.
