18 April 2024 - Headlines Mislead, Again

According to recent news articles (two on different stations with the same message, think this is orchestrated?) the number of anti-semitic incidents has been way up this past year. One headline says, 'Antisemitic incidents skyrocketing in Western Washington and across U.S'. Another says 'Anti-Defamation League reports record-high antisemitic incidents in Pacific Northwest'. The articles say most of the incidents were 'harassment or vandalism' but bomb threats are up too. The picture that the local Seattle news station, KOMO (see link above) shows with their article is of a synagogue which was vandalized with graffiti that says 'Shame on Israel' and 'Stop Killing' and 'You Know Better'.

Image of local vandalism from Komo article. Image by Lori Turck-Rogers.

Err, how is this anti-semitic? Doesn't the word semitic refer to Palestinians (and Arabs and others from that location of the world) as well as Israelis? Isn't that graffiti anti-Israeli? Not anti-semitic? I know it's on a synagogue so I guess that makes it anti-Jewish? I can kinda agree with that, maybe.

I find it interesting that, even though the graffiti is on a synagogue and so I guess that makes it 'anti-semitic', the graffiti says nothing about Jews, nothing about religion at all. It says, basically, stop the genocide and that Israel should be ashamed and that they should know better. And I gotta agree with that, completely.

A graph at the end of the KOMO article shows 'anti-semitic' (this obviously only refers to anti-Jewish or anti-Israel incidents, not anti-every-other-semitic-out-there) incidents from 2022 and 2023. Wow, umm, the vandalism went DOWN. Reported harassment is way up, though. There are no bomb threats on this graph, but there is one assault. Which is sad. And vandalism went down.

Graph from KOMO News article.

Ok, something fun!
The other day my husband was feeding the peeps (chicklets) some worms we had collected. He threw the worms one by one over the little fence that keeps the peeps in their current home and out of the goat pens and a peep would grab the worm and go racing, with all the other peeps following. It was funny. And he said something to them about how we don't have maggots, but if we find any, we'd feed them to them.

And a song popped into my head, immediately. 'Maggots 1, Maggie 0' by Attila the Stockbroker. So I'm posting it here, because it should pop into your heads too!

Thanks for reading! Here's the open thread - and remember, everything is interesting if you dive deep enough, so tell us about where you're diving!

I hope it's a nice day for everyone. Busy day here, family coming over. We are going to have some amazing blossoms on the apple trees soon. I hope I can get some pictures! I'll post some pics of the little peeps soon, worm, maggot, in their beaks or not! They are very pretty in a peep way Smile . Ohh, the tooth/gum/wev infection cleared up good. I'm feeling fine now. I've tried to make an appointment with a specialist as recommended by my dentist. But that hasn't happened yet. I'll try again tomorrow!

Post about whatever is interesting you, got you ticked off, you are having fun with, whatever! Love to read it!

Two clumsy efforts by our federal legislative bodies to obscure the distinctions
between "antisemite" and anti Zionism is typical of AIPAC efforts to control US
law in favor of the Israel state.

H.R. 894 was passed in December.

"the language of the GOP resolution is overly broad and would effectively
define any criticism of the Israeli government or its policies as antisemitism."

“That is either intellectually disingenuous or just factually wrong,” he said.

“The authors, if they were at all familiar with Jewish history and culture, should know
about Jewish anti-Zionism that was, and is, expressly not antisemitic,” he said.

And the Senate recently introduced a bill called "Countering Antisemitism Act"

The bill would also designate May as Jewish American Heritage Month in federal law, instruct the Department of Education to name an adviser on antisemitism in higher education, as well as conduct a study on Holocaust education.

What about Muslims, Bhuddists, Hindus or Atheists? Let's be fair. I want a month to celebrate
Unitarian Univeralists. And let's us remember the long suffering animists and worshippers
of RA. Like so many other assaults on the Constitution, separation of church and state
is reduced to the status of a quaint notion. Wink

Glad the jaw is better. Enjoy your spring chickies!

I agree with you, Sima. The graffiti belongs on government or public buildings, in public spaces. Damn write it across the skies. It is the USA government "ironclad" support of whatever Israel does, including escalating against Iran, that is the source of bringing all of us to the edge of destruction. Painting the graffiti on the doors of a synagogue is what makes it antisemitic. No question.

full-throated support of Zionism has been now defined as "antisemitic".

I'm glad I'm not Jewish. They'll be in a world of hurt post-collapse, when the hordes with the guns are looking for someone upon whom to ballistically express their anger.

As someone who was born Jewish, I find it frightening and it also leads me to wonder, as much of the geopolitical insanity does these days, what the agenda might be for the TPTB to conflate Judaism and Zionism. Qui bono? I sense it is part of a way to silence dissent but also to create more division and possibly even civil society breakdown, as usefewersyllables alludes to.

...there have been some tepid gestures lately of purported attempts to ameliorate relations with China. I won't bother detailing them, because I think they're an effort to deceive. Ben Norton does a great review of the Matt Pottinger, Mike Gallagher propaganda piece in FP magazine. This is a more candid expression of the US imperial views toward its empire in Asia. I had mentioned this article several days ago with a resigned attitude, because it contained so many obvious untruths, I considered it too time consuming to address point by point. I'm glad that Ben Norton took it up.

I regard what is going on now with the Israel-US anti-Iran program as actually a part of a larger plan to attempt to remove Iran from the Russian-Chinese orbit. Brian Berletic has a recent video and article which argues this US anti-Iran scheme has been in the works for at least 15 years and all the US moves are choreographed to take advantage of the current "opportunities."

Glad you are feeling better Sima. Thanks for the OT.

against RUS and CHI as pertains to Iran. Although China is a relatively recently
designated adversary, the globalists are in full anti-multiporal mode. They are using
their vassal states of US, GB, FR, AU, ISR and others in the EU to fracture threats.
Some of the global south, portions of Africa and western Eurasia so far have put a
glitch in their plans. This why they are pushing a WW3 'solution'.

I feel the CIA is in on the ruse to forward the globalist agenda. Used to think Wall
Street was also a player, but they are also being used to destroy economies.

wouldn't being friends with Iran remove them from the Russia/China influence easier? Wouldn't it be less harmful to everyone, wouldn't WW3 not be on the horizon? Ohh but that would take sympathy, thought, knowledge and feelings. Our leaders seem to never have all four at once.

I think we're past it. To a sizeable fraction of the people in this country, being anti-wholesale-death is already regarded as utterly un-American.

A great example of this can be seen at Zerohedge, where the commenters have largely self-selected as being significantly to the right of Atilla the Hun. It is interesting to watch the pig-pile that occurs when some poor misguided wight posts an opinion that doesn't reflect the "nuke 'em 'til they glow blue so we can strafe 'em in the dark" narrative. Such a person will immediately be excoriated as a communist muslim DEI transsexual gookxican, or worse yet, a Democrat. All evil can be laid squarely at the feet of progressives, it seems. It is "othering" on steroids.

I no longer believe that there will be any healing of that rift. They regard us as mentally defective, and I have to admit that I have come to believe the same about them. Anyone who can hold those beliefs is fundamentally broken, IMNSHO.

The die is cast: now, all that remains is the denouement. Will the collapse come from within, or will it occur as a result of the rest of the world finally deciding to be rid of us? I'm finally, at long last, simply hoping that it is over soon, so that I can rest. At least I won't have to pay any more bills.

I like this song from Peter Gabriel's collaborative "Big Blue Ball" album for many reasons, not the least of which is the Gaelic chorus. But this particular lyric describes my current mental state very well:

I only smile just to

Now ZH is spreading misinformation. The anti genocide protests are organic, not made up of money driven mercenary army paid for by some shadowy “terrorist linked organization.” (Unlike BLM which was).

People just know a genocide when they see one. For once, I am in agreement with the”left.” It’s just hard to see ZH sinking to the low of pushing the Fox News agenda on Gaza. But since I’m already fully blackpilled, meh.

https://www.cnn.com/2024/04/17/politics/biden-uncle-cannibals-new-guinea...

Pennsylvania, U.S., April 17, 2024. Elizabeth Frantz/Reuters
CNN

President Joe Biden on Wednesday suggested twice that the United States was unable to recover his uncle Ambrose Finnegan’s remains after Finnegan’s plane crashed near New Guinea during World War II, “because there used to be a lot of cannibals” in the region.

Biden’s accounting of his uncle’s death — and possible cannibalization — differs from the account published by the Defense POW/MIA Accounting agency, which says Finnegan’s plane, an A-20 Havoc headed to New Guinea on a courier flight, was “forced to ditch in the ocean” off the coast of the island “for unknown reasons.”

“And my uncle, they called him – Ambrose, they called him Bosie… and he became an Army Air Corps, before the Air Force came along, he flew those single engine planes as reconnaissance over war zones,” Biden said during remarks at the United Steelworkers Headquarters in Pittsburgh. “And he got shot down in New Guinea, and they never found the body because there used to be a lot of cannibals – for real – in that part of the New Guinea.”

VW today

Mercedes-Benz workers in Alabama will get to vote on joining the UAW.

Both Mercedes-Benz and the United Auto Workers union stipulated to an election agreement, according to an email from National Labor Relations Board spokeswoman Kayla Blado.
...
The vote comes after what was said to be a supermajority of Mercedes-Benz employees at the plants filed a petition earlier this month with the board's Region 10 office in Atlanta seeking to represent about 5,200 production workers.

The election will come less than a month after the closely watched UAW election unfolding at Volkswagen in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Workers at VW on Thursday were in the second day of voting there. A victory by the union in that contest would mark the biggest organizing win by the UAW in decades, coming in the U.S. South.

Organizing drives in the past have met stiff resistance from regional politicians, which was on display again this week with a statement signed by the governors of Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, South Carolina, Tennessee and Texas.

Alabama Republicans really hates unions

(AP) — Alabama lawmakers on Tuesday advanced legislation that would withhold economic incentive dollars from companies that voluntarily recognize a union without holding a secret ballot election.
The Alabama Senate voted 23-5 for the bill by Republican Sen. Arthur Orr, of Decatur. It now moves to the Alabama House of Representatives.

The measure says that companies would be ineligible for economic development incentives if they voluntarily recognize a union after a majority of employees return union-authorization cards — a process sometimes called “card check-off.” Under the proposal, a secret ballot election would be required to determine if a union would be formed.
