Open Thread -- Slightly Parted

Beauty is where you find it. Anonymous

доброе утро (that's good morning in Russian)

From my treasure trove of almost smiling faces. A slightly parted grin.

slightly parted.jpg

How would you like your threads this morning? We have open and slightly parted, for openers. Intend no large assaults on reality based thinking just now. It's a bit early for that. At least in my mind. Maybe we could discuss this later? For now, Mo' java!

An aside to Can't Stop the Signal, love your literary essay's. Have you read Light Music by K.A. Goonan? Great SCI-FI pertinent to today's foggers. Puts some of the propaganda programming into perspective.

Oh, sorry, where was this going? Ah yes, to the music. Something slightly political in nature. Kind of spooky and bittersweet.

Was going to embed a Les McCann number, but someone pre-empted it already (Compared to What?). So this is another one to tie up this cerebral salad.

Enjoy!

It is early. So I am going to finish my coffee and then do a couple of miles of my treadmill.

Gulfgal's walking stories inspired me. I went to our senior center and signed up for a free membership. They have a great walking track. The next day I thought, tomorrow. Tomorrow I thought, who am I kidding? No way in hell I'm going to go through all of the hassles to get there and back so I can exercise. Add in winters coming snows and blowing icy winds, and I'm never leaving my house. So the day after tomorrow, I went online and bought a really nice treadmill that was on sale at Costco. It was delivered and for a few bucks, ok several bucks, the delivery guys carried it down into the basement. My SIL assembled it, and I am diligently walking a couple of miles or more while watching Netflix TV shows on my Kindle. So far, very good.

Of course, I'm primarily Scotch/Irish, so as a result this is the kind of stuff that sticks in my head.

in my part of the world. I normally walk it all about 3 times, but at a stroll. Not quite as much exercise as my normal daily walk. You can visit with everyone from the Judge to the local moonshiner. A last gasp of the past.

and it's not done. About a foot of the heavy white stuff, including ice underneath. And my car is outside, no cover. The snow "brushed" off the car is now surrounding said car about 2' high. But my driveway got plowed and is clear halfway up the other side of the circle. So I can back it out and park over there! And then slowly dig out the stuff, I only did the paver walkway a snow-shovel width. I never had this much to deal with last year. At least it's at 32 now, and forecast takes highs back into the low 50's in one week. A little bit every day?

Hey! my dear friends or soon-to-be's, JtC could use the donations to keep this site functioning for those of us who can still see the life preserver or flotsam in the water.

so when you get more snow you'll have room to put it somewhere.

That, in its essence, is fascism--ownership of government by an individual, by a group, or by any other controlling private power. -- Franklin D. Roosevelt --

I am doing homework in my rented Moscow apartment. I am studying the Russian language and appreciating the sites in this magnificent, historic city. I'm here to learn the language and to talk to Russians to find out what they think about events in the world. I start out with an attitude of extreme respect for the country and her people. The reaction to Trump winning for improved relationship is hopeful but very very reserved. They are realistic that our two countries have a long way to go to repair the rift. When I mentioned to a woman that Americans have been fed nothing but negative news about Russia for years, she said that the same thing is true here in Russia. There are very few American tourists here, basically they believe the US propaganda and are chicken shit to travel here. That's too bad, because this is the best travel bargain on the planet, with the Rouble devalued. Moscow is clean, safe and displays a thousand years of history. I have been treated better than at home, and much better than any big city in the US. The Moscow Metro is a beautiful museum dedicated to the people of this country. I can get almost anywhere in this enormous city in less than 20 minutes.
I am just talking one on one here but would be glad to ask any respectful questions that you might have.

Capitalism has always been the rule of the people by the oligarchs. You only have two choices, eliminate them or restrict their power.

We're slavophiles at our house. My wife and I read a lot Russian literature and history. I waste a lot of time at this site → English Russia. She went to Moscow and Petersburg on a package tour once, I've never been. But if I were to visit Moscow my list would include the tank museum at Kubinka, the air museum at Monino and a few games of Russian billiards.

The Democrats gave us Biden and war instead.

didn't bother to announce that fact. It's ok now. If you didn't look at it, check our Jerry's noodling around at the start of that clip.
