Garbage day for me means taking my $1.25-tagged bag down my 900' road to the can. I had set a mousetrap in the kitchen behind the rangetop and nailed one! So that corpse goes to landfill, with 2 weeks of garbage. I also recycle. And compost.

Just got FB notice that son has arrived in Kaohsiung, Taiwan for a visit with girlfriend's family there. How to learn Mandarin 1-2-3. I think it's still today there.

Any plumbers out there? I have heard the chilling sound of interior dripping water from above. There is a bathroom there. My first idea to isolate the problem was to close the toilet intake valve. So far, no drip. I assume that means a flapper valve leak in the tank? I was trained a scientist, not a plumber or electrician!!!

That Uriah Heep cover: gorgeous locks!

our ill treated colony. Saw a great (sad) piece from teleSUR's empire files. It's about 30 min, but covers the history from Spain through the new over sight board. It's about a month old.

I seem to need my air conditioner all the time now. For the last few years in this area we've been getting rolling brownouts, where part of the town's grid will go down. I'm wondering if that is directly connected to the electrical needs of all that air conditioning?

If a brownout happened at the assisted living facility and lasted for a long time, it could be a very serious thing for some of the people who live here. It happened once but only for a couple hours. Even that short period of time caused this building to heat up quickly.

Not my utility but the shortages correlate with AC by the not-important non-industrial users. Why this never happens in winter may have to do with industries being able to co-generate some amount of heat.

Around here, I think that "elderly facilities" (awful, I know) can be listed somewhere at high-priority. Like people at home relying on electricity to breathe. I suspect that means only you are on a list, special. Not.

Situations will worsen. I have no AC, rely on tree shade and a hill.

the utilities have beenrequesting remote control over people's ACs for years now. Their story is that they can turn them down a bit when they see usage reaching limits and thus prevent brown outs. A few years back, France suffered severe brown and black outs and it caused a lot of deaths.

A meeting of Florida Democratic delegates descended into chaos when outgoing Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz took the stage Monday, with critics holding up signs with the word "Emails" and Bernie Sanders supporters booing the congresswoman loudly, even after she began speaking.

Those attendees began to chant, "Shame! Shame! Shame!" while Wasserman Schultz was speaking.

Henry IV converted so the stabbers wouldn't put big holes in his body. He didn't really mean it.

If the Acadians had moved to where Mozart was, we could have had magic flute gumbo.

Hillary Clinton Remarks at the Veterans of Foreign Wars National Convention Democratic presumptive presidential nominee Hillary Clinton addressed the national convention of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Charlotte, North Carolina.

She got an endorsement from a ret. Gen. Allen, apparently.

I have a hard time to follow her talk. She is so determined and tough minded ... looking and sounding. Way too sure of herself ... she has developed a thick skin like a rhinoceros she said... may be a little too thick to feel anything what a lot of folks are feeling.

Sigh. What a pity. I am so sad.

are everywhere totally endangered. Their thick skin is helping them not at all.

Why does she have to go talk to a gathering of a bunch of old serial killers? Those people are so old and in the way they are barely visible in this universe any more.

Every day, her stupid campaign, it shoots itself right in the stomach.

I just got an email from Jill, and they need help NOW in Kansas getting signatures for ballot access. The deadline is August 1st. They need volunteers and donations to support paid petitioners. Please spread the word, especially to anyone in Kansas. Let any Bernie or Busters that are focused on the DNC Convention know about the situation. To donate to support a paid petitioner in Kansas, go here: https://jillstein.nationbuilder.com/donate

"First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win."

The KFS subreddit has a Facebook post from a California Bernie delegate claiming that 13 superdelegates are switching from Hillary due to Wikileaks revelations. This could be the start of something big, if true.

William Appleman Williams, the late historian, described American imperialism as “a strategy of annihilation unto unconditional surrender.” Some of us used to know that, during the Vietnam War. Did we think it had gone away, evaporated? Maybe we bought into the “superpower” myth, which reasoned that once one “empire” collapsed or cried Uncle, the other would follow suit. Maybe we forgot what we should have known: that the United States of America has been imperialistic from its founding, and is the principal heir to the historical legacy of imperialism.
