RGA Press Release:
Give me your tired, but not too tired to work for $7.25/hr. with no benefits or sick time,
your poor, as long as they have an advanced degree and will undercut college educated American's wages,
Your huddled masses, as long as they are Christian masses
yearning to breath free, as long as there is not a cop on top of you.
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore, so send more oil
Send these, the homeless, tempest tost to me, for economic exploitation
I lift my lamp beside the golden door, but no warning shots because castle doctrine.
The esteemed Governor McCrory, North Carolina, joined the chorus. He will not allow Syrian refugees, because his duty is to keep North Carolinians safe.
I wonder what he was thinking when he signed the ALEC guns anywhere bill. House Bill 937, which became effective on October 1, 2013, expanded North Carolina’s concealed handgun law into restaurants where alcohol is sold and consumed, assemblies of people for which admission is charged, parades and funerals, state and municipal parks, and educational properties.
Maybe it was the good guy with a gun meme.
Pro-gun group in Texas re-enacts Charlie Hebdo attacks with paintball rounds
A pro-gun rights group in Texas re-enacted the Charlie Hebdo attacks with paintball rounds, in an attempt to see whether an “armed civilian” could have stopped the two gunmen who attacked the Paris office of the satirical magazine, killing 12. The civilian “died” in almost every scenario except immediate flight from the scene.
I wonder what McCrory was thinking while he ran interference for Duke Energy. Wouldn't the people of NC be safer with clean water?
Is Chris Christie a big mouth blowhard and pearl clutching chicken or what?
Sometimes I feel like hopping in the car, driving to one of these governor's and smack some sense into them. What the f'k is wrong with Chris Christie?
Oh and Mike Pence, what can I say? It is difficult to articulate without resorting to coarseness.
Nobody could convince me that the government spying did not know about the Koch spying. Which in turn leads to, we live in a fascist country, otherwise Koch operatives would be going to trial and jail.
The political network helmed by Charles and David Koch has quietly built a secretive operation that conducts surveillance and intelligence gathering on its liberal opponents, viewing it as a key strategic tool in its efforts to reshape American public life.
The operation, which is little-known even within the Koch network, gathers what Koch insiders refer to as “competitive intelligence” that is used to try to thwart liberal groups and activists, and to identify potential threats to the expansive network.
The competitive intelligence team has a staff of 25, including one former CIA analyst, and operates from one of the non-descript Koch network offices clustered near the Courthouse metro stop in suburban Arlington, Va. It has provided network officials with documents detailing confidential voter-mobilization plans by major Democrat-aligned groups. It also sends regular “intelligence briefing” emails tracking the canvassing, phone-banking and voter-registration efforts of labor unions, environmental groups and their allies, according to documents reviewed by POLITICO and interviews with a half-dozen sources with knowledge of the group.
Just what the country needs.
Like His Dad, Charles Koch Was a Bircher
Today, as announced on Amy Goodman's DemocracyNow!, the Progressive Inc. and the Center for Media and Democracy are publishing new information and analysis documenting that billionaire oil industrialist Charles Koch was an active member of the controversial right-wing John Birch Society during its active campaigns against the civil rights movement.
Many commentators have noted that the father of the controversial Koch Brothers, Fred Koch, was a leader of the John Birch Society from its founding in 1958 until his death in 1967. But, in fact, Charles Koch followed his father's footsteps into the John Birch Society for years in Wichita, Kansas, a hub city for the organization in that decade of tremendous societal unrest as civil rights activists challenged racial segregation.
Charles Koch was not simply a rank and file member of the John Birch Society in name only who paid nominal dues. He purchased and held a "lifetime membership" until he resigned in 1968. He also lent his name and his wealth to the operations of the John Birch Society in Wichita, aiding its "American Opinion" bookstore -- which was stocked with attacks on the civil rights movement, Martin Luther King, and Earl Warren as elements of the communist conspiracy. He funded the John Birch Society's promotional campaigns, bought advertising in its magazine, and supported its distribution of right-wing radio shows.
A PEOPLE’S HISTORY OF KOCH INDUSTRIES: HOW STALIN FUNDED THE TEA PARTY MOVEMENT
Everyone knows that Tea Party revolutionaries fear and hate socialism about as much as the Antichrist. Which is funny, because the Tea Party movement’s dirty little secret is that it owes its existence to the grandaddy of all Antichrists: the godless empire of the USSR.
What few realize is that the secretive oil billionaires of the Koch family, the main supporters of the right-wing groups that orchestrated the Tea Party movement, would not have the means to bankroll their favorite causes had it not been for the pile of money the family made working for the Bolsheviks in the late 1920s and early 1930s, building refineries, training Communist engineers and laying down the foundation of Soviet oil infrastructure.
The comrades were good to the Kochs. Today Koch Industries has grown into the second-largest private company in America. With an annual revenue of $100 billion, the company was just $6.3 billion shy of first place in 2008. Ownership is kept strictly in the family, with the company being split roughly between right-wing brothers Charles and David Koch, who are worth about $20 billion apiece and are infamous as the largest sponsors of right-wing causes. They bankroll scores of free-market and libertarian think tanks, institutes and advocacy groups. Reason magazine, Heritage Foundation and Cato Institute are just a few of Koch-backed free-market operations. Greenpeace estimates that the Koch family shelled out $25 million from 2005 to 2008 funding the “climate denial machine,” which means they outspent Exxon Mobile three to one.
No worries, they won't burn in hell. We will all fry in place.
What a funked up world we live in.
Stay strong brothers and sisters.
Over and out.

No snow yet...
most of the heavy stuff is north of us [fingers crossed].
When the embed code shows in the comment box, do you then click the preview button and nothing shows?
yes - nothing shows when I click the preview button
but if I don't care about this no-show in the preview box/screen and then hit save, it shows for you in the final comment. I bet the preview button just tries to tell me that I should think before I post... ha.ha.ha... won't work with my brain...:-)

That's weird mimi...
I don't know why it doesn't preview for you, for once in my life I'm at a loss for words.
Does Adblock stop them from embedding?
My AdBlock doesn't...
when you copy the embed code from Democracy Now do you paste it into the video icon above the comment box or do you paste it directly into the comment box. It only works when you paste it directly into the comment box. The "Insert video" icon above the editor is only for the video URL, not the embed code. I'm going to explain more tomorrow morning in the Open Thread.
not sure, doesn't work neither for the video link
just used the video link from the democracy now video, put it into the field of the insert video box and it doesn't show in preview either. Now I will post. See what happens...(I think I did it several times this morning and it was the same, didn't show even after posting.) So, if it doesn't show after posting for the video link, then I think you should drop this thingy. It's not important. Just the stubborness of our minds chasing this ...no good.

But there is also this story

I forgot who said that.

I am hedging toward angry man
It's been awhile. I saw where you got hosed on your copious content. I am pretty much done with DK. Otherwise, I'd go Big Al.

CNN Punished Its Own Journalist for Fulfilling a Core Duty of Journalism
It's too stupid to even excerpt from the article example after example given of journalists who opinionated or editorialized worse than Elise Labott and were not suspended. Sorry, it's just to damn idiotic.

Here's a labor story with a happy ending.
In view of SEIU's recent sell-out to the oligarchy by endorsing Clinton, I am happy to relay a story from Labor Notes of victory in CA by a union that broke away from SEIU due to SEIU's sell-outs of its own members in contract negotiations (of which I have had personal experience!):

Your sig line
applies to unions, so called think tanks or 'non profit' orgs and especially any org. associated with the Democratic party. I read an article on The Black Agenda Report about how BLM was now under the wing of the Democratic party. The main reason the Royalist Dems. at dkos hated OWS was because they refused to fly under any political party. It would be great if Bernie's campaign saved the party but due to closed primary's and the grip of the corrupt Dem. machine I have my doubts. Still I will vote for him. I wish these evil fucks hadn't locked it down to Tweedle Dee or Tweedle Dum but they have. Channeling Big Al here but until people globally have had enough nothing will stop them. We don't really have a vote anymore just ratify the owners of the world's selections or else you get the absolute crazy rat bastards in power. Although either way these RW crazies by complicity still keep power. Pretty good trick when most people do not want them I'd say 30% of the country is anti-democratic, pig ignorant and violent and yet even when they win the Dems make sure they lose. Good cover for their mendacity and 'lesser evils'.
That's the old bait and switch, isn't it?
"c'mere kid. ya know, you got some talent there...."
Would hate to see that happening to #BLM. I bet Deray's phone and email are off the hook with offers, wining and dining, dazzling invites, job offers, etc.
I suspect this is what happened to Jesee LaGreca, and there were others I'd say in OWS who got sucked up into the Dem Mothball Machine. He was back today, btw, with a diary on Daesh. Was great to see him resurface again. But somewhere in the middle of the thread bobswern asked him who he was supporting. Said he's "feeling the Bern," but that he'd do anything in his power to get the Dem candidate elected. Dispiriting. But this is frankly what I've come to expect fro him. His tweets have been the same, focused attacks on the Republican brand.
Has anybody seen Black Panthers: Vanguard of the Revolution? Basically Fred Hampton's closest ally was the one who turned over all the details so that the Chicago Police could come in the middle of the night and kill him. Guy was bought out. Evil.
Is this just par for the course? They prey on the most vulnerable (Jesse was going through some personal stuff/just had a kid), offer some cash and conscience-easing platitudes until your comfortably sedated, more financially secure and ultimately neutered as a threat to the PTB.

I saw him. Didn't open his diary. Regardless of the topic, I had a sense that I already read it.

That thing re Jesse reminds me of Guido in Michael Ende's "Momo"
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Momo_%28novel%29
One of Momo's adult friends, Guido is initially a lowly tour guide known for the charming stories he tells. The Grey Gentlemen lure him onto a path that enables him to "hit the bigtime" in the entertainment business.
The demands of stardom cost Guido his creativity. He has risk-averse investors and sponsors to think of, so his artistry loses all authenticity. After a chance meeting with Momo shocks him with a glimpse of what he has become, he tries to rebel but finds his hands are tied. The web of obligations he has incurred guarantee that he can only continue to play it safe, recycling the plots of past successes whose charm wore off long ago.
Just like that Glen Campbell song "Rhinestone Cowboy"
A star-spangled rodeo, that's campaign season all right. Like the DK frontpager's complaint that Sanders spoke without having any American flags behind him.
