I stopped fighting my inner demons. We are on the same side now.
- NCTim -

Happy funkin' Friday the 13th.

I have been having a hard time coming up with a theme for the funkin' Friday Open Thread.

Is a funkin' theme, or coherent thought process, necessary?

So why not just revel in the ambiance of Friday the 13th?

So this is a call to action, get out there and celebrate Friday the 13th.

The plan is to burn one, take the shoe leather express and hit the streets. Care to meet me at Friday Night On White?

Reminder to self, pick your funkin' feet up, when you walk.

See you out there!

I promise to be a bad influence!

Have a great weekend!

The thread is OPEN.

situational overload. We have seen the demons dancing to the tune of death and destruction. The vaunted halls of justice are filled with them. All for the pleasure of a few demented fools.

Thanks for the Stevie and Stevie! Keep on.

But just try turning the same microscope on the NeoLiberals - just try, and see if you can get published anywhere but samizdat.

Should I be planting seeds? Yesterday was a nightmare of reinstallation of Win10 via DSL. Now the PC has forgotten all my links. I can't even pull up wunderground. IIRC, it's gonna rain today. Still I have garlic to set in the ground in my slouched beds. A cool-down after today.

My dog Skya seems back to normal after a bout with something et bad. She's now guarding the house from the fog. I am applying for an extension on taxes (again). I have hundreds of mail items not yet opened. Including all my statements.

A good Friday the 13th to all. Son turns 32 tomorrow. At least the PC seems stable and need not be tossed from a second floor window. A gun-free zone exists here.

Time with them, it's not really helping my state of mind but at least it is helping other human beings suffer a bit less. Just a little, instead of harming them to death. Actions have consequences, I think that is the saying.

Blocking embedded YouTubes from my systems because GOOG billionaires helped create California's homeless. They just came here and took the money, created a few billionaires and now millions of citizens are destitute. "That's the system." They keep buying off Democrats to prevent even a little bit of progress. Fuck Google and YouTube, I hope their stock price crashes off a cliff, gets hit by a train, and dies in a fire. Happy Friday the 13th! lol

Hint: It only takes a few copy pastas to plunk down the name of the video, so I don't have to "--get-filename" on every link to see what is being shared. Stevie? I have lots of Stevie Wonder here, so I'll listen along. I love this where he goes Ah! just before this part in As:

We all know sometimes life's hates and troubles
Can make you wish you were born in another time and space
But you can bet your life times that and twice its double
That God knew exactly where he wanted you to be placed
So make sure when you say you're in it but not of it
You're not helping to make this earth a place sometimes called Hell
Change your words into truths and then change that truth into love
And maybe our children's grandchildren
And their great-great grandchildren will tell
I'll be loving you

peace and thanks

OMG, I love this: "I stopped fighting my inner demons. We are on the same side now."

I'm not sure exactly what it means, but it sounds very tempting anyway. (Silently criticizing myself incessantly was a very poor choice of hobby. Addictive, though, apparently.) I would rather become one with my highest angels, but, at this point, just being on the same side with myself would be a relief. Besides, the inner demons bit is far funnier.

In my lifetime, I have had two awful things happen on Friday the 13th. But, they both ultimately were blessings. So, I can't figure out if Friday the 13th is my lucky day or my unlucky day.

Update: A week or two ago, I posted about an upper respiratory infection (first time that I can recall posting about a personal problem). After a couple of weeks, I finally saw the doctor. Turned out, I had pneumonia. The scrip is nasty, but I have been improving dramatically for about a week now.

Moral: Toughing out something unusually severe on the theory that your body will heal itself sooner or later is not always smart. IOW, I should have at least called the doctor sooner. So, y'all do as I say and not as I did.

P.S. Friday Night on White sounds great. Have fun!

@HenryAWallace During her convalescence, Sue had a bronchial infection and the antibiotic really threw her for a loop. During the final weeks she contracted pneumonia, due to shallow breathing. It is a common form of demise for an ALS patient. The doctors advised that the antibiotic would probably be worse than the decel to a stop.

@riverlover She knew she was dying, and never quit fighting. Sue was a mute quadriplegic. ALS shuts down the nuero-muscular system. I think she knew, but was not ready to go.

@NCTim

I did not know that shallow breathing could lead to pneumonia.

The scrip is indeed a bear and probably would have been unbearable for someone in Sue's condition. However, I have already relapsed once after starting to improve; and I really want this to go away and stay away.

On the way back from the Russian River, on the bridge I was blessed by an osprey circling, tree swallows all around. Then, under the 101 there is a creek, and on the bank among the horsetails was a fox. A catdog! Haha that's what they look like to me. I didn't just "see" it, I stopped and watched it lapping up creek water for a few minutes. or however long the time stopped. I remember traffic driving by but I couldn't take my eyes off that gorgeous fox. All red with a silver back and black striped brow. What a beauty. Then, it turned around and disappeared up the bank. Now I'm quite sure where its den is. Lucky me. grin

I picked up all the trash along the street yesterday in honor of that trickster fox, thank you very much. A five gallon bucket stuffed full of plastic bottles and spent batteries.

Communication and appliances are both likely to gang agley. Or so they say.

@HenryAWallace thanks man, I hope you get well in due course, as fast as possible. Also, I didn't break any bones and no one died. sheesh

I did brick my FreedomBox doing a dumb maneuver on the command line during retrograde. That was a big bummer for I have no JTAG cable to recover it. After all the years... ~shrug~ oh well

@HenryAWallace Wreaks havoc with me every single time.

I don't make a habit of seeking out the dates, but after a few days of "WTF?!", I absolutely know what's happening. Same this time around. Looked it up, and lo and behold!

Really looking forward to the 15th ... if the world survives that long.

Hey! Related: maybe the latest $h*tshow is all a massive miscommunication and saner heads will soon prevail. (I can dream, can't I?)

@eyo I finally saw the owl, up close. Walked right up on it, sitting on a fence post. I thought we had a barn owl. It turned out to be great horned, and absolutely gorgeous.

I have to be at one with my inner demons, as they can be overwhelming. It's been a tough week. I had a bad fall Sunday and broke my left hand, bruised some ribs and sprained my left foot. Those demons keep reminding me I wasn't being careful. On Monday, my husband's dad died.

So, here we are.
Working hard to make lemonade out of those lemons.
Working hard to keep perspective.

Have a beautiful day and weekend, folks! Pleasantry

El Cajon area of east San Diego where is was 45 degrees at 6am today. That's positively icy compared to where we had been out in the desert. A short stay poking around this area and we'll ramble up and over to the coast to begin the ramble home through yet more disparate chunks of geography, geology, climate and ecosystems.

to Chris Duarte; a musician from San Antonio. I've never heard of him but he's impressive. I see he plays in San Antonio occasionally, but always in a venue that I dislike. I'd have to check him out in Austin where he seems to play fairly frequently.

I second the enthusiasm for the Stevie and Stevie, I've never seen that clip....pretty darn nice.
