What is written here is imprisoned by curtailed expectations.

Welcome to the best hump day in his story or her story,
depending on how one so perceives.

~

Lacking a supple backbone as to where this goes, just making up
an introductory supplication of wherever this story may evolve.

The writings of prisoners has been a vital project for educators
and others to focus on the importance of sharing the expression
of subjugation. For the 'free' to feel impoundment of the mind.
We once had a contributor here that walked that path.
Describing the ways societal failings have left us in a mental limbo.
Vast subject.

~

Somehow we need to tap into the greater gestalt to reach the
blinded awareness of the mass mind. See here now.

Chris Hedges teaches in a prison. His students wrote a play, Caged.

He tells a bit about it in this article.

Steph wrote a scene about being locked in Ad Seg — administrative segregation — in Trenton. He was sent to Ad Seg for 365 days in 2009 after being found in possession of a contraband cell phone he had bought from a guard for $200 while he was in Newark's Northern State Prison. There are guards willing to sell prisoners contraband items from cell phones to drugs, including heroin.

Nearly every student in the class had spent some time in solitary confinement — what are known euphemistically as control units. Those accused of committing an infraction are first sent to "the hole," a prehearing control unit, until they are found guilty or innocent, which is almost always determined by the statements submitted by the corrections officers. Prisoners in the hole are not permitted to have any personal property or phone privileges. They are held there for between five and thirty days before being returned to the general population, or, if found guilty, transferred to Ad Seg. Prisoners can remain there for many years.

Man's Inhumanity to Man
by Robert Burns
Many and sharp the numerous ills
Inwoven with our frame;
More pointed still, we make ourselves
Regret, remorse and shame;
And man, whose heaven-erected face
The smiles of love adorn,
Man's inhumanity to man,
Makes countless thousands mourn.

Hoping for some rain today. Only 0.1" is predicted...hardly a drought buster. Mostly house chores to do today. Don't be imprisoned by your own thoughts...be a free thinker.

Take care and have a good day!

As an aside, if my memory serves, was it Steven D
that was involved in prison literary work?

thanks for the Robbie Burns passage!

way back in the early days of knowledge searches, I used google, but found it lacking.
Then someone here turned me on to duckduckgo, which was an improvement. But it
fell into the google pattern of consumer oriented results. Then switched to Qwant, which was a vast improvement at the time. Now that one is 30% adds, 60% amazon and maybe 10% other.
Went back to the duck, which was actually better. Have now found Yandex to be vastly
superior. Any other recommendations?

thanks

See here now.

Just gotta love it. Thanx.

Once, long ago, I had access to LexisNexis. Almost certainly the best search engine out there, almost guaranteed to be prohibitively expensive for individuals.

Haven't spent any time using Yandex, but will give it a shot, thanks for the tip. Of course, using it makes you a Putin sympathizer and, no doubt, Russkie enabler, but "who cares" (Eddie Cochran).

No mucho awake yet and chores be callin', mebbe back later. Since I ref'd "who cares" by EC above, I believe i'm ergo obligated to post the source:

be well and have a good one

That, in its essence, is fascism--ownership of government by an individual, by a group, or by any other controlling private power. -- Franklin D. Roosevelt --

Writers today have societal constraints and censorship that would make it doubly difficult to express themselves.
I applaud anyone who nevertheless tries.
I have some odds and ends to finish up before I take off for the getaway.
Hope we will have a lively discussion and some tunes drop into the thread.

snag; Yawl. You might find this interesting. Among the entries it eventually dropped me into pictures and after a few yawls, sort of coughed up large numbers of sailboats and motor-sailers, including some obvious schooners, sloops and cutters and some that were very probably ketches. Trick question, I know, but ...

as the old saying goes, can't ketch y'all
meaning when the aft mast is astern of the wheel
when it falls, you can't catch it
