Open Thread 12-22-16: My Dead Chicken

open thread.jpg

Shahryar here, working with shaharazade's notes for the open thread she was going to write. I shall interpret!

My dead chicken. Was this chicken, not less than a week ago, running through the free range pastures, the green ones in our imagination?

I believe what she's saying is that this was the short, sweet life of Charlotte Chicken, who grew up to the point where she could imagine going to chicken college or perhaps getting a chicken job, when she was cut down in the prime of life, to be eaten by a pair of jackals or hyenas, scavengers of the worst order who, clutching forks and knives, convinced themselves that they were civilized.

So here's Thursday. Oh joy! Great. We wake up and work or just sit around and complain like good proles do. Oh, excuse me to you non-proles. Like I'm a prole! I live off the system, once removed, which makes it worse.

I think in this passage she refers to how people like us are ineffective in creating beneficial change. We might be aware of the problems but we are powerless to fix them. In fact, the definition of the proletariat itself is in dispute. Is it only the working class? The actual laborers? Blue collar workers? Perhaps so. Those of us who are "white collar" or technicians might see ourselves as "us" versus the elites but we are only enablers, closer to doing the dirty work for those rulers than we are to the real workers who rightly dislike us.

One after another falling out of the sky. And we all go nuts. Why? I mean, how many times do we have to go over this? (as a famous man once said). So what?

Here, I am guessing she is describing the existential problem of the aware thinkers of today. If we can't create the world we want, why do we persist in believing we can? Why do we persist in caring? Why don't we just live our lives and do what we want? Well, perhaps that last bit is mine.

According to her notes I should insert some visual images here. I can't do that any more from this computer so just imagine two beautiful photos and a beautiful painting or, if you'd prefer, three disturbing pictures.

Then there's music. These are some of the tunes that she's been playing while compiling these notes.

I'm Not Like Everybody Else

That's right! Or is it?

that's for sure!

The individual has always had to struggle to keep from being overwhelmed by the tribe. If you try it, you will be lonely often, and sometimes frightened. But no price is too high to pay for the privilege of owning yourself. - Friedrich Nietzsche -

Many elements of the Outer Party labor under the self-delusion that they are actually proles, or that they at least have the proper sympathy for that class, and if the real proles would just shut up and do what they've been told is good for them, all would be well. The real proles, when they see anything at all, usually see this clearly.

I meant to use the video as an example of irony (or maybe doublethink) the other day but lost the thread. The words are either an invitation to drink yourself into oblivion or grab the torches and pitchforks and head for the Manor. However, the presentation is bouncy happy-time. I suppose an argument could be made that it's meant to mean "Cheer up! We can get through this!" but I'm not sure how I feel about that.

I am getting to who cares. If I can change nothing, why vote or concern myself with what is going on in the world? Now if you'll excuse me, I must go watch Dancing With The Stars. Smile

I can't find the old Mississippi string band tune with the line "I like my chicken brown", so I'll leave you with another archaic Mississippi piece that we like to play Tupelo Blues (3 min)

All the best to all of you!

Provide a Traditional Sioux & Lakota Christmas Diner for Standing Rock Water Protectors & Our Veterns

The “Main Kitchen is still run by outsiders and once served chicken strips while we were making deer stew for the veterans. There are few Native Americans in the Main Kitchen and the chef is vegan. Veganism is anathema to a tribe of the Great Plains like the Lakota, who were hunter-gatherers for more than a thousand years until the U.S. military forced agriculture upon them in the 19th century. We would like to serve a traditional Sioux dinner to all Water Protectors including Natives, veterans and children.

$10 feeds a Water Protector a Christmas diner.

There are still children at Standing Rock and we would like to provide them and their parents with stockings and gifts. We are up to date with most supplies except propane and would like to provide "non-essential" gifts like toys, games, markers and crayons, coloring books, chapter books, and hats and gloves, and pillows.

On Wednesday, Trump announced he is forming a new White House National Trade Council that has one goal: To stop the "exodus of jobs" to China, Mexico and other countries. The council is expected to "make American manufacturing great again."

It's a tall order. The U.S. has lost 5 million manufacturing jobs since 2000.

So if we all become Republicans, maybe we can force the GOP to outflank the Dems on the left of other issues we care about. We obviously can't get the Dems to do anything so why not give the GOP a try?

Oh look, Trump is dancing with Richard Trumpka all over Hillary's grave and Obama's legacy.

Instead of importing manufacturing robots from China, he'll see to it that they are built here in America -- made by existing, Chinese made robots!

Hey! my dear friends or soon-to-be's, JtC could use the donations to keep this site functioning for those of us who can still see the life preserver or flotsam in the water.

I do not think my dog would tolerate chickens living in the doghouse and pecking around in her yard. But the house could be outfit as a chicken coop, and is insulated. But no human access, just a porch, under cover. I have not peeked inside for at least 15 years.

messing with dead chickens. The dead chicken I prepared last night was an exceptionally good looking organic bird. He or she moved me as I stuffed him/her full lemon wedges and parsley. I guess I did write the OT as Shah seems to have adapted my writ quite nicely.

I used to paint kitschy chickens in their alive state on my son's hand thrown pottery. They sold like hot cakes at Saturday Market. Here's some random chickens from art history...
